August rush 2010!!!
:wub:Good luck to all you August Rusher's (and all!) I am to be banded on August 26th. There are at least two others on here that have that same day:smile: Start my all liquid diet 7 days prior. Not worried about it since I tend to eat more when relaxed --and I am NOT relaxed:scared2:. Mostly "ok" with the surgery, but still anxious which I hear is normal for some. take care

Do you regret choosing the Band over Bypass?
if you are like me--into starchy late night snacks then the band should do it for us:smile: I will be banded on the 26th and am nervous about the surgery itself but would be so freaked about gastric bypass!! It has a lot more risk and more long term problems with absorbtion, losing too much sometimes, and saggy skin. I think lap band is a bit slower so less saggy skin, no absorbtion problems and the restriction can be adjusted! Maybe your friend who has the band who is not losing is eating liquid calories?? -or does not have enough restriction. If one sucks on chocolate, drinks milkshakes , drinks high calorie coffee drinks, eats ice cream or high calorie soup then those things "shoot" right through and the band is not being used properly. good luck

4th Day Pre-op liquid diet...STARVING!
:confused:Well, I don't know of anything except maybe filling up on fluids all the time when you are hungry. I am set for banding this month too--the 26th. I have a 7 day liquid (only!!) pre-op diet. I plan on drinking a lot of protein drinks, broth, sugarfree jello, sugarfree juice, water with lemon slices, diet V8 splash, crystal light and kool aid with splenda. I know the more belly fat we lose the better things go during surgery. My RN said DO NOT eat anything solid the day before to help with gas pain. I plan on having gas X around just in case though. good luck:thumbup:

A big setback for me
:sad:so sorry about your pain but glad you know what the problem is.....good luck in the future. I am banded this month on the 26th and have been anxious about the surgery and post op pain. my father had gallbladder surgery and had no gas pain. some do though. my RN said DO NOT eat anything but clear fluids the day before ( i may do two days) and that will help.

Normal to be nervous??
:confused:how many were/are nervous about getting your band. At times -especially at night, I am even having doubts. Is this normal since my date is coming soon(the 26th)? Mostly I am at ease but those anxieties sure are discomforting:eek: thanks for any feedback or reassurance:smile:

was postop pain terrible???
i am getting banded on August 26th and getting a bit nervous. was wondering how many had bad post-op pain? or not much? How long before you felt kinda normal? Do people feel different because of the pain or meds they have to take for the pain? and what about the "gas" pain? thanks for any feedback:smile:

Band Day Tomorrow
you are getting close:)

what needed post-op??
I am getting banded in August--I hope:thumbup: and am trying to get what I may need in the future together. I have heard about needing food processor, digital scale, magic bullet, protein powder. Do you all "use" this stuff and is it needed short term or long term? Anything else you use? Also, what about those first few weeks on the liquid diet? ideas??
-
Today is my day!
wishes for a quick recovery and good luck on your journey!!

Saw the nutritionist yesterday and it was devastating...
also i do have a few other "ideas" if you want to send a private line to me:)

Saw the nutritionist yesterday and it was devastating...
by all means DO NOT diet now...that will come later. wear heavy shoes/clothes and drink water 45 minutes before weighing in. I tried 2 quarts and gained 4.5# in that time..maybe it will help.

mom had lupus
thanks for the insight....between what I researched and what you wrote i am at ease about it...thanks.
-
Post-consult disappoinment
I will be close too.... I alraedy tried drinking water to see how much it would "help" at weigh in. 2 qts. in 40 min= 4.4 # this may be inetthical, but I may be close. Just a thought. Only draw back is you have to hold it until AFTER they weigh you--aaaaahhhhhh good luck.

Just had sugery and want to share!
i will keep up with how you are doing--thanks for sharing.. I hopefully will be banded in August

really upset pleaseeeeee help!
hi ...this is freaky!--but it won't deter me. Odds are that you and I will do just fine like most do. I will definately be scared pre-op, but I am ready. Maybe the complication was to do with the surgeon? or maybe she did not watch whart she ate? or maybe it was one of those one in --- chances of it really going bad. stay focused---i will too. we can do it!

A lot of emotions.
hi , i am due to see my surgeon on aug. 2nd. do it!! I am 45 and wish had done it sooner since I have always strugled with being a large gal and wanting to be smaller. I put off doing since I too have a full wardrobe that I like and spent a lot of money on....well, I will get new stuff. If your friends love "YOU" they will support you. Just assure them you inside will always be the same. you may get more attention- but you will adjust to it. good luck.

3 weeks in.....
hi, i have not gotten banded yet. i have heard it is hard until your fill--just hold on it should get better. i am a bit nervous about something going "wrong", but plan to do everything the way I should and just am hoping so hard that my experience is as good as many have had--good wishes to you:)

mom had lupus
my mom had lupus. i do not. my insurance will cover lap band even though i have a relative who did. i have read that lap band is not indicated for those who have autoimmune problems. i don't have any. anyone out there had the band and also have a close relative who has lupus? how are you doing. i am a bit hesitant about "rejection" of the band. my psych. is tomorrow and i am scheduled for my consult with the surgeon on Aug. 2nd. even if he "ok's" it I want to hear from any who may be in the same boat--thanks:smile:
