May 1st I took a break from researching LapBand surgery to check out Facebook. Decided to click on “Message From God” and this is what I got: You can tell yourself that you have already decided, that nothing now can stop you, but if that step backwards is so much safer than step forwards, what will hold you true to your path when the going gets tough? Sometimes, the right thing to do is to take that first irreversible step, the one after which you cannot go back. And now, for you, is one of those times. This was when I made my commitment to have the surgery. I’m nervous and excited. I really feel that now is the time - while I’m still relatively young and can wear cute clothes and hike mountains. I know I need to think about this decision and make sure it’s right for me but that is basically built into the time it takes to satisfy Aetna’s requirements to approve coverage of the surgery. It looks like it’ll take 90 days to do what they ask which includes a behavior modification program, nutritionist visits, and an exercise regimen to improve pulmonary reserve prior to surgery. I’ve never come this close. I’ve considered this option before but it never felt real. It felt more like a threat I was making to myself like, “if you don’t do something then I’m gonna have to take this drastic step”. Now it feels more like a very exciting, viable option to finally get comfortable in my body. It’s thrilling… and terrifying. NOTE: I'm not a religious person. I don't believe God has led me to this path. He has better things to do.
