  1. I'm on a similar pre-op diet (2 more days!!!). 3 protein shakes, high protein low carb. I can hve a small piece of lean meat and a light salad for dinner and I haven't lost a single pound in over a week... actually this morning it was up 2. I haven't gone off plan once so I know it's not me. All I can think is I'm taking in 800 or less calories a day at the moment... may be too few for my body to lose on. OR, the chicken broth I've been enjoying as a fake meal has too much sodium and I'm retaining water! But I had read a lot of people not losing on their liquid pre-ops so I'm not freaking out yet!
  2. Does he/she want an american buddy? Her name is Groovy Cat and she's as groovy as it gets! :-P
  3. magic bullet rules!!! Love it for Protein shakes... before we used it for smoothies everyday... kids still do. for that alone it's worth it for us. I make tuna and chicken salad in it since we have a picky eater who "hates chunks". There's a recipe for cream of broccoli soup with it that's actually really good. salsa was easy with it. coffee. Only thing it didn't work well for was grating a bar of soap (for laundry detergent-- found a recipe during one of my "let's see how we can save money" phases...) GO MB!!!
  4. I'm 3 days from surgery- on high Protein low carb (3 Protein shakes daily and a light dinner salad with small breast of chicken cut in it). Been doing this for about a week and not a pound gone!!! But I've also figured out the calories and it's barely 800/day so my body could be freaking out hanging onto everything. I'm also peeing like a racehorse and haven't slept more than 2 hours at a time without getting up to go! That may be the biggest reason I'm ready to be off mostly liquids!!! We'll lose it!!! Just stick to it!
  5. Sounds like you have a great sister. :-)
  6. It's amazing how similar we are then! Up until we started the banding process my fiancee had NO IDEA how much my weight affected my confidence and security. He's known me for 13 years and had no clue! But I do the same thing... act like it's all good in front of people. I don't usually let my size stop me from doing things either- but the whole time I'm aware what I must look like doing them! It's nice to know there are other people out there experiencing life as I have. I didn't think I was alone in it, but it's comforting knowing for sure!
  7. It's not easy being in a new place where you don't know anyone. I've done it 3 times and it was easier when I was younger!!! My last move I was a hermit and never went out and only knew my co-workers. But what a great opportunity to meet people! Join the Y... take a class (anything- paining or clay or cake decorating!!! you don't have to eat the cake... but they're so fun to decorate!) take a healthy cooking class!! learn to make wholesome good for you food. you can do it!
  8. I'll double check with my Dr after surgery on Friday. I just know myself and even the smell of cherry medicine is enough to make me yak. I don't want to be doing things that are likely to make me throw up while I'm healing... or ever really! 3 days!!! holy smokes!
  9. I was told to have liquid tylenol on hand after surgery... only problem... the adult liquid tylenol that everyone has is only in CHERRY. EEEW. Nothing more icky than cherry flavored liquid medicine. I'm 31 and still can't force myself to take robitussin or anything else cherry flavored. I gag and wretch... which I don't think will be the best way to heal from surgery! I can't help it, it's just so offensive to me... so... can I just take 6 of the jr's chewable tylenol? That would be 960 mg (instead of 1000 for adults)? Should be the same effect right?
  10. my nutritionist is adamantly against the gummies! they don't contain Iron and that's important!! She says plain old children's chewables are the best. She won't even give the gummies to her kids b/c of the lack of iron. I just found chewable Calcium citrate at GNC and they're not too gross! So I'm taking chewable flintstones (2 a day...) and chewable calcium along with B12 (because I was low in my bloodwork).
  11. It's like you're in my head. I'm the same way... I NEVER announce when I'm dieting... because when you're as overweight as I am it's all people want to talk about with me when I admit I've been dieting. I hate having people ask me about it. I resent when people remind me "is that on your diet?". I just know this is going to be a huge life change and it's going to be hard and frustrating and I don't need people to add any more frustrations until I've "got it". If you feel that way then tell him... that way it's more about you and how you feel rather than "Because I don't want your parents telling people"...
  12. Mom's an RN... telling her to stay home (she lives 40 minutes away) is not an option! And you just don't tell grandma what to do. That woman is 75 and will out work and out walk any of us! She never quits and I don't know how the family would work without her. I scrubbed the kitchen floor last night on my hands and knees (and my lower back is not thanking me today... another thing I am hoping losing the weight will help) and threatened the lives of anyone who didn't wipe up a spill or take their shoes off on it. Then I picked up the cheese wrappers, ice cream sandwich wrapper, and soda cans left by the lone man in the house. The girls will throw their stuff out but he's an old dog now and I just can't get him to do it! All we have left are the kids rooms (today) and bathroom (which I don't do... it's the only room in the house I don't do and he does!!) And at least it's giving me something to do this week! I'm really aware of not eating and finding little things to do is distracting!! re-organizing kitchen cupboards, FINALLY going through the chest freezer, sorting through the shoes in the front hall and deciding our 6 year old doesn't need 11 pairs out there... I won't get to all of the laundry but I figure mom will wash it and I can fold it while sitting. I'm expecting more laundry tonight as the girls clean their rooms and we find a pile of clothes they forgot they owned! 3 more days!!!! PS- we also have a cat you can have Jacqui! She's a sweetie, loves to snuggle, purrs like a pro, and if there's a wet towel on the floor she loves to pee on it! You cuold have a matching set of kitties in the bathroom! She will pee on it only if it's already wet. I have found that just hanging up the towel means she won't do it but apparently I'm the only one in my home that knows this "trick". I bought all of us our own towels- 4 each with a different color and mine are the ONLY color left!!! arrrg.
  13. probably smart to call the dr and check. Better safe than sorry.
  14. HAHA! I have a whole closet full of clothes that don't fit in SEVERAL sizes!!! :-)
  15. Haven't been banded yet... but can mention that people with MORE weight to lose tend to lose more at first before evening out... if you're someone who has a BMI near 50 and you suddenly drop calories it's more dramatic and you'll lose a lot initially. That could be part of what you're seeing...
  16. Am not openly telling people yet. I will once I've reached restriction and people start asking what I'm doing! The family knows (mine and his). Other than the fam, 3 friends know and 3 co-workers including my boss. All are being supportive! We haven't told the kids yet (his girls- I'm having the surgery so we can have kids too!) They're 6 and 11 and I couldn't love them more, but as I don't want all of the neighbors to know my business and I don't want their mother to know (as she and my fiancee are still quite bitter with each other and she's a fan of nasty diggs at our expense- even to the kids which I think is wrong) we haven't told them at all. After surgery we'll tell them I had something fixed that's been bothering me, but I don't need their mom's negativity coming back to our house so I'm not telling them I had the band until it's been a success. We have them 50% of the time so it's not been easy keeping it from them! And I wouldn't ask them to keep things from their mom so we're just not telling them yet. I'm on the radio, so when I decide to share with our listeners I will tell the girls first. I will share this with my listeners in hopes of helping some, but I want to have hit restriction for a stretch first. Get into my groove before the world knows... ya know?!
  17. I'm being banded on Friday morning ... THIS FRIDAY!!! Liquids is hard... I am allowed a small piece of lean chicken or fish for dinner with a light salad (I've just been chopping a few ounces of chicken into my salad) so I think that's been keeping me sane. I've never looked so forward to a salad that wasn't The Cheesecake Factory's Chinese Chicken Salad!!!! But this forum is also keeping me sane... I'm finding myself on here ALL day just glad to be "around" people in similar circumstances. Seeing the same issues, laughs, hopes, doubts... really is helping me make it to Friday!!! So thank you all for being here!! We'll get there!
  18. but the smart pop kettle corn... yUM!!! I'm also on high protein LOW carb pre-op this week and they were pretty specific... 3 protein shakes, sugar free jello, sf popsicles, broth, and a LIGHT dinner of chicken or fish and a small light salad. So I've been chopping up lettuce and red peppers and a few carrots and chopping up some chicken and having a delightful dinner salad. I look forward to it all day!!! but it's the only "food" I'm allowed this week... btw- Newmans's Own Light Honey Mustard is friggin fantastic!!! I put my 2 T into a little dish and dip each bite just a little... YUMM. Damnit, now I can't wait for dinner and it's 8am!
  19. Cracking me up!!! I'm also messy by nature and shove things in my closet like a pro. And generally I don't care what the kids rooms look like as long as they're not ruining their things! As soon as I see something on the floor broken because they've stepped on it they have to clean their rooms... other than that I'm just asking for help keeping the living areas tidy. Love them, but agree!!!
  20. haha! We bought new living room furniture last year and we were both insane with "Don't drink on the couch!" "Don't Eat on the couch!"... fast forward to now when I'm trying to resolve the peanut butter and spaghetti sauce stains off of it (along with some other un-identifiable ones). But the worst stains are on his beloved recliner!! He is wonderful but a 3rd kid sometimes! :-)
  21. Me too!!! Well, 31 and getting banded this FRIDAY THE 13TH!!!! I think the date is a sign of luck! I'm currently 283 (started at 311 in April... did pretty well on my pre-op diet!) I took the whole week following off. I don't have a demanding job and sit at a computer most of the time but I had a hard time after my gallbladder surgery and wished I had taken more time off for that one. Good luck!!!
  22. I'm readying the house for surgery so I don't have to worry about a messy house when I'm recovering... I just need to vent on my messy family for a minute before I resume the deep clean. I can pick up after myself, it's picking up after 2 kids and the love of my life I can't do!!! They're all so friggin messy. Ugggg. And since my mom and grandma will be here after surgery to help out the house has to be pristine (OR they will clean it and I'll never be able to find anything again). We have a couple of crap closets where things just get shoved... and they are shameful! We're messy cluttered people. Not dirty, just messy. I have a pile of mail in the front hall that I'm just going to shred! Closets to go through and make look organized. My laundry area... let's not even talk about that one! My kitchen cabinets are a nightmare!!!! I don't understand why I am the only person in the house who can put the top back on the peanut butter or actually close a cereal box. I know grandma will have a field day in there. And we'll be calling her for weeks asking "Where is the basil? What about the Dawn?" Mom will do laundry and fold it and put it away... and for weeks we'll have one little girl saying "EEEEW, what is Katie's underwear doing in MY room". I'm grateful for their help, but I don't want them to feel like they NEED to do all of that... I'm capable, I just hate doing it! So I'm trying to get it all done before I'm out of commision so they don't feel the need to do it. It would be IDEAL if I could train the members of my household to help out without being nagged. And I'm hating it... and putting it off by posting on here!!! I'm also on liquids so I'm a little cranky as it is. thanks for letting me vent!!!
  23. they're healing!!! I remember the itching from past surgeries and my hello kitty tattoo! Itching is healing... a good thing. Just keep an eye on it and make sure it's not too red, oozy, or hot or hard to the touch. And itch around them, not directly on them! :-)
  24. Seminar mid-March. First surgeon appointment April 2 (and every month thereafter), labs and tests 4/20, nutritionist and psych eval end of May, lost my 10% as of July 1 and got the OK from insurance on july 22! Surgery is coming up on Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
