  1. My dh has been supportive. He's stood behind me all the way on it and even though on the day of surgery, I could tell he was very nervous, he was still excited for me. After surgery, for the first days when I was in pain, he was my rock and helped me more than I could imagine. Even now, he helps me not get discouraged when I hit a plateau. He also encourages me to exercise in a caring and non-rude way. I asked him to remind me to exercise, so I appreciate it when he says "did you ride the bike today?" I think they get nervous about the idea of surgery and if we will change in personality. In the long run, they realize that we are doing it for our health more than any other reason and for that, he's as excited by my weight loss as I am.

    3rd fill - having problems

Wow, Ready2, they put 4 in on your first fill? I've had three fills so far and only have 3 cc's so far. Maybe that's why I don't lose "as fast" as some of the others. I wonder how the doctors decide who gets the amount they give and why.

    I cant even believe it!

I can't get too discouraged. I went shopping the other day and was able to get the next size down in clothing. The first time in a very long time!
  4. My first fill was done by the surgeon, it was nice and easy. The second fill was done by her regular "fellow" and was also nice and easy. Yesterday, I went for my third fill... it was her "new assistant" and it hurt! They never give me a local anesthetic but the first two times it was just a simple needle poke. Even though he didn't have to poke repeatedly, he did push and push and PUSH on my stomach to find it, then put it in and it hurt. Hoping he did it right! ~cross fingers~

    3rd fill - having problems

Oh please do keep us updated and be careful. I am sorry to hear of the pain and nausea. Hang in there.

    I cant even believe it!

Congrats! That is so exciting. It can be discouraging to see others lose fast but at the same point I'm not giving up. I've lost 24 since my surgery on March 24th and I'm still moving forward.
  7. I am at 3 months and 1 week and have lost 24 lbs. At month 2 I hit a plateau and didn't lose for 3 weeks. But once it started again, I've been dropping. I lost 6 pounds in June (went for my 3rd fill yesterday) and am looking forward to more. I have 3 cc's of fluid in my band now.

    Newly banded, few questions

I had my surgery on March 24th. I remember the first day wasn't so bad, but it hurt a great deal on the 2nd and 3rd, however by the 5th-6th.. .I was much better. I can "feel" the port when I touch it, but you don't go around "feeling" it all day long just because it's there. You have to remember, the surgery has truly done a big deal to your insides, a lot of it is just swelling around the band, the port. You've disrupted muscles and tissue and it's rebelling. It DOES get better. As for the burping, I've not had as much problem as others. Some say they have it all the time. I get it only if I over eat. This might also be a result of the swelling you're experiencing. I was fine the first week with liquids only. The second week wasn't too bad. The third week, I was crazy hungry and it was supposed to be pureed food only. I have to admit, I snuck in a bit of string cheese there.
  9. I had my surgery done on March 24, 2010, so officially it's been less than 2 months. Right after surgery, during the liquid and puree time, I lost 13 pounds. Since then, I've had a "fill" done on April 22nd and haven't lost anything since. Not a single pound! Luckily, I haven't gained either, but I'm already at a plateau??? The other frustrating thing is so far I am not feeling it at all, I can eat the same things and same amount that I always could. I know you don't usually feel the difference until about the 2nd or 3rd filling, but I am just so frustrated with the complete stale mate that I am in right now. Suggestions?

    Frustrated and need encouragement

Very true. I've been real conscious of my eating this week, still sort of maintaining, but at least not gaining back by bad habits. If my family has spaghetti and garlic bread, I have about a 1/4 cup of spaghetti and then salad. Still, no drinking for 45 minutes after, that helps too. And also, drinking LOTS of water through out the day. I'm not giving up, it took me years to gain this weight, I won't drop it overnight.

    Frustrated and need encouragement

Probably doesn't help that I want to jump on the scale every morning and night. Thank you all for the encouragement, helps to know I'm not alone in this.

Thanks ... I won't give up. I see the doctor again on the 24th and hope they'll do more for me then.

    Frustrated and need encouragement

I am trying to eat better, things like fish, steamed veggies and salads. I've gotten the 100 calorie snack packs for when I need a "crunch" or "sweet" but I do admit I've had some issues with being hungry and eating things I shouldn't. I've really tried to track my food on fitday.com and that helps me be honest with myself. I'm doing exercise too but could step it up a bit.
  15. Hi everyone, I just had the lap band surgery on 3/24/10. Including the weight I loss during the month of "pre-op" and the weight I've lost in the last two weeks, I'm already down 14 lbs and soooo excited. I haven't had my first "fill" yet and am a bit nervous. I go in on April 22nd to see how that goes. One thing I noticed, I didn't quite make it through the "puree" only stage easily. But, not too bad, I'm doing a Protein shake in the morning, a yogurt or Soup or rice pudding or cottage cheese for lunch and then having a "sensible" dinner. Last night I had 2 oz of curry chicken with coconut and sliced almonds with a tiny side salad. But I am still finding myself crazy hungry at night, that's when I struggle. Seems I do so well during the day, but at night I'm fighting myself not to nibble. Any suggestions?

    Greetings from Oregon

Good for you! I go in tomorrow for my 1 month check up. I'm anxious because since I started eating food i haven't lost any weight. I lost a lot in the first 3 weeks, but none this week at all and I'm nervous. I have an upper GI tomorrow, then meet the nutrionist and nurse and finally the surgeon. I think I officially get my first "fill" tomorrow.

    Am I alone???

That sounds excellent! I'll give that a try

    Greetings from Oregon

I actually do feel more "fullness" even without the fill, but I get hungry more often. I am anxious for my first fill though, to really begin to feel the difference. Yesterday was the first day we ate out at a resturant since my surgery. We had Chinese food. The rice was a little hard to eat but I enjoyed a little egg flower soup and some Kung Pao chicken. Took more than 3/4ths of it home, then shared it with my husband for dinner again later. Probably not the "wisest" choice of food, but eating in moderation is the key. Since the surgery, I've already lost about 8lbs in the last 3 weeks. I have my first 'fill' on the 22nd of April.
