I decided to have the surgery done after my family doctor brought the idea up when I was hospilized with cellulitious. I got in and saw my surgeon then went in for my psyc evaluation. It was just a waiting game after that. A week after all the paperwork was submitted, I was approved! I had to see the dietician. I was placed on a high protein diet for two weeks before surgery. It consisted of three protein shakes, a protein bar, and protein soup each day. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever had to eat! The day of my surgery I got up at 6 to make sure I had everything ready to go. My mom came with me to the hospital for moral support. I wasn't too nervous until I was checked in and in my same day surgery bed. I was escorted into my room and asked to change into one of those lovely hospital gowns. I did and sat in the chair in the room. The nurse came in and weight med. I had lost 16 pounds from that gross diet! She came in to talk with me about what I was having done. She told me the next step was to start my iv. I hate needles so this terrified me. She wrapped my right arm in a warm blanket to bring the veins out some more. A male nurse came in and talked to me. He was completely honest with me about everything! He started the iv line, drew some blood from it, and hooked up my iv. I had a sea sick patch placed behind my ear and the male nurse gave me a shot in the stomach. I was given this really gross stuff to drink. After that, I was set to go. They got me situated in the bed and waited for my doctor. Once he showed up, the adventure began. I said goodbye to my mom and headed to the operating room. This was intering. I had people grabbing my bed the whole way. Once we got there, I was instructed to move over to a heated bed and my iv was started. Meds were given to me so I'd fall asleep. People were being introduced as I was going out. Next thing I knew, I woke up with an oxygen thing up my nose and in some pain. My first instinct was to grab my stomach. I felt the pain for the first time. The nurse kept telling me to take deep breaths and cough. All I wanted to do was sleep! After what seemed like forever I was cleared to go to my room for the night. The same male nurse who started my iv was with. Once we got down to my floor, my mom was asked to wait outside until I was in my bed. This was the most painful part of all. I had three nurses helping me ease into my bed. Each little bump hurt. I was finally in it and comfy. I noticed I had some cuff things on my legs. My mom came in and covered me up then I dozed off. My best friend brought her baby up to see me. I was still really out of it though. My nurse came in and gave me another shot in the stomach to help with blood clots. That's why the cuffs were on my legs as well. She brought me a blanket to lay across my stomach as well. I had low oxygen so I was on oxygen for the night too. After a few hours, I was brought my first food-chicken brooth! Everything went fine. Soon after that came the first bathroom break. My mom helped me get up. I was so sore! After the first time, I got the hang of it though. I got up and walked that night as well twice. The next morning, my mom came up at 6am. We met with the dietician and waited for the doctor to release me. I walked a lot and got to take a shower. I was finally sent home at 3pm. Once home, I was really sore and had to fight off my dogs. I tried sleeping in my bed that night but it didn't happen. I decided to sleep on the couch and actually stayed there for the next week. I am now almost three months post surgery and have lost 48 pounds! I went in for the first fill a month ago. The doctor searched and searched for it. He went through 3 needles and couldn't find the soft spot. I had it done 3 days later at the hospital under an x-ray machine. Today, I was suppose to have my second fill. The same problem happened. This doctor looked around for 20 minutes and still couldn't get it. Now I'm waiting to hear back from my surgeon as to where to have this fill done, in the clinic or at the hospital.
