  1. Is this normal? I had my band to sleeve surgery Friday morning. Not that there’s much to puke... it was just dry heaving at first but now I’m throwing up the liquids I drank 2 hours ago before my nap. i also have a pounding headache every time I nap. they gave me Zofran but it’s not doing anything. Also Percocet, which they told me to stay on top of to manage the pain but honestly the pain is fine... it’s the puking that scares me...
  2. Ok, so I thought I'd update. My surgeon said I should follow my OB's lead. If I get to the point that I am too tight to eat normal meals or if my OB says I need to be unfilled, they'll unfill me. Otherwise, he doesn't see the need for it.. So my OB says he wants me to gain 15-25lbs. If I start to loose weight, he wants me to get unfilled. Otherwise, we can leave it in. So far I've actually lost about 5lbs, but that's more from morning sickness then the band. I almost feel like I need a FILL bc I can eat things that always gave me trouble like bread and sushi... Obviously that's not going to happen. He also said that I needed to UP my caloric intake to 1600-1800 calories a day. If I can't meet that then I need an unfil. I was having the hardest time meeting that, so rather then up the QUANTITY of what I eat (which is not possible at this point) I upped the quality. I got rid of sugar free jelly (which is probably better for the baby anyways) and replaced it with regular jelly, replaced skim milk with whole milk, crackers with whole wheat bread, fat free chobani with 2%, etc. Seems to be working. I have this HUGE appetite right now though... Which unfortunately seems to clash with my morning sicknes...
  3. Well I guess what they say is true... Loosing weight increases your fertility... In the 7 years Ive been married Ive never been on birth control and sort of relied on my PCOS. Whenever I wanted to get pregnant I'd go to a specialist and thats it... Well I wasnt planning on getting pregnant for another few months, but I guess the 55lbs I lost changed the way my body works! Anywas, so far so good, but I have no idea what to eat now... I mean, before I would eat Protein, then vegetables, and rarely/sometimes carbs. But wouldnt a baby need a more rounded diet? or should I just stick to what Im suposed to be eating? I really dont want to gain all the weight back. I usually gain between 30 and 40lbs and usually 20 fall off without any effort within the first few weeks after the baby is born. My hope would be to gain 10-20lbs... Or even none would be fine too! How do I do this? what should my diet be???
  4. Well I WAS doing great... But I've been stalling over the summer, and this month I actually gained 3lbs! I don't know how that happened... Ok I do know how that happened... I don't always make the best choices. Right now, I feel hopeless, like I did before I was banded... I don't know if anyone else felt this way before the band, but it's this desperate knowledge that you HAVE to lose the weight, SOMEHOW, but when it comes to crunch time, your willpower just... fails... I didn't feel this way for the first 4 months because I kept losing weight but now it's just stopped. On top of that, I haven't been working out like I should... I try to make it to 3.5 hours a week of cardio (running and walking) but more often then not, I don't get my 3.5 hours. I've been doing better recently, but when I work out more, I eat more. Not quantities, obviously, since that doesn't apply when you're banded, but the quality of my choices are BAD. (think Cookies, which slide right through...) I'm also having some restriction issues. I got a 2cc. fill at one point and it was WAY too tight. I couldn't even swallow my own saliva! SO PAINFUL! Then I had them take out 1cc, and the month later they put it back and I still feel like I could eat more then I should... I know I'm not a failure. I mean, I did lose almost 50lbs, which I know is HUGE. Still, I didn't get banded so I could stay obese, ya know? I just need to actually do it. Get my mojo back...
  5. I didn't vote because I'm not really sure... When I was younger and thinner, (say a size 10-12?) I was able to cross them but needed something (like a table leg or something) to hook my foot around to prevent slipping. I can cross my legs right now (size 16-18) but they still slip. Especially if I'm wearing a skirt. Hopefully this will be effortless when I'm a 8-10 though...
  6. I've never had regular periods. In fact, AF went missing pretty much between 1995 and 2005. (then I had babies and they sorta kinda came back every 5-6 weeks) And I have PCOS. I don't want to get pregnant right now because I'm on this weight loss journey so first I was put on Yaz. But my periods started happening EVERY 3 FREAKING WEEKS! I complained to my doc and he said Yaz shouldn't be perscribed to overweight women bc it doesn't have enough hormones for the weight. So he put me on Microgestin, which is supposed to be stronger. So finally the first month, I got 4 weeks between periods. And now, 2 weeks after my last AF, she's here AGAIN! What gives???? I've had AF FIVE times in 2.5 months! (which happens to coincide with when I started the whole lap band thing...) Someone please tell me you've been through this...
  7. Just a question: When I arrived for my surgery, on the consent form there was something about a hiatal hernia repair in addition to the lap band surgery. When I asked the dr about it, he said it was standard. Anyone else have this done? Does anyone know how you get a hiatal hernia?
  8. One word: Senna Leaf Tea! (Ok that's 3) You can get it at any health store and it works instantly. I mean, like you take 3-4 sips and as you're swallowing, you hear your stomach... My doc told me to drink a cup 1/day. Otherwise, nothing is moving. Eventually it will get more regular on its own, but post surgery your system goes nuts.
  9. I had my surgery 11 days ago and have been healing nicely. The dermabond fell off one of the incisions 2 days ago but the doc saw me yesterday and said it was ok. But now it's bulging a little under the incison. Not a whole lot. You can't really see it, but you can definately feel it. Is this normal or should I call the doc?

  11. I did it today! I had my lapband surgery! I just thought I'd write about my experience so those of you who are going to be having it soon know what to expect. Of course, different doctors, practices, hospitals, states and countries have different policies... My doctor does it as an outpatient procedure, so I was home pretty quick. They brought me in at 8:30AM, told me to undress, gave me an iv, checked bp, hr, etc and had me connected to machines. They had me sign a few more forms. Intersting thing: On one of the forms, it said I was having gastric lap band surgery and hiatal hernia repair. Now, as far as I know, I don't have a hernia. When I asked the doc, he said most overweight women have a hiatal hernia, which is not dangerous, but when placing a band, it has to be repaired to avoid complications. Interesting! Anyways, they told me to get comfortable on the bed while they got the OR ready. In the meantime, I brought my ipod, where I had downloaded some relaxing music I used during my pregnancies, labors and c-sections. Well that must have been really therapeutic, bc I fell asleep before they could even sedate me! (He sedated, then he used the mask to put me under, apparently) The next thing I know, I'm coughing up a storm and apparently asked "Did you extubate me yet?" they were cracking up. Then apparently I said I needed an Emesis basin to throw up, but fell asleep instead. :w00t: I am not a doctor. I guess the anesthesia made me remember all my ER episodes... So after an hour they tried waking me up, and it felt like one of those mornings where you JUST cannot wake up. After trying to wake up for 20 minutes, they let me sip some Water and then it was fine. Nothing was hurting. They made me sit up after a while, then walk around, go to the bathroom, and then I got dressed and went home. All in all, I went in 8:30 and was home by 1. Now the pain has started kicking in a little. I can barely feel the two little incisions and the big oneacross my belly button is a little tender. Also, I can totally feel where the port is and it's sore. I can tell it will probably take a while to heal. aren't so bad. But then again, I'm comparing it to c-sections. The hard part is the gas. It's pretty bad. I got a heating pad and it's made a huge difference! They sent me home with Lortab, but I don't know if it's helping with the gas... I am SO hungry! But the gas won't let me eat too much. I've basically had a bottle of Vitamin water, and half a bowl of Jello. They told me to make sure I get in 64oz of fluids today. So far, including what I had in the hosptial, I've had like 32. I don't see how I'm going to double that before I go to sleep though. And other then that, I've just been sleeping it off. It helps that dh took the day off work to help with the kids today. Hopefully I can ask my mom to come help tomorrow and maybe the next day I'll be ok. Anyways, that's my story.
  12. Mine is tomorrow! Ok, I'm actually strangely calm. I am more excited about the end result. I should be petrified since I've never been under, although I've had 2 c-sections, so I've been through abdominal surgery before... The pre-op diet was ok. The only tough part was was today when I was on a clear liquid diet. I was SO hungry and lightheaded ALL DAY! Tomorrow should be easier since I'm guessing I won't have much of an appetite. I can't wait to start the rest of my life!
  13. I start my Clear liquids tomorrow in anticipation of my surgery on Monday. So I did a little experiment today. I made a broth with a beef bouillon cube and Water, and added some unflavored Protein powder to it. But it gave the broth like an opaque latte color. Not clear at all. Does it still count as a clear liquid? If not, then where am I supposed to get my protein from? I should also mention it was a Protein Powder, not whey. Does that make a difference??
  14. Well today I tried the vanilla shake, which only has like 2g carbs and I did much better. However, I ate way to many grams of fat. I'm only supposed to have like 15, and I had 29... and I only had 850 calories... according to my doc I need 900-1100. I wonder if it's enough?? I kept trying to eat stuff with calories and carbs but no fat and I had like 3 sugar free puddings. My carb count was on the low side, but still enough. But I just couldn't get enough calories....
  15. I am having some trouble getting the calories I need in my diet. I need to restrict my carbs, so they can't come from that. Fat has the most calories per gram. So my question is, what kinds of foods can you eat that have calories coming from fat and none coming from carbs?
