  1. Hello, Has anyone tried for the sleeve surgery with a BMI of 35 with comorbidities. I had the lapband placed in 2010 and did great , in 2017 started having problems with it and had to have it removed. I tried for a year to keep the weight off , but it has creeped back up . Know I am 35 bmi and tring to get approved thru my insurance. I have High BP and was test recently for sleep apnea. If I have one I would be able to proceed on with this journey , If not I will have to do this journey with out any kind of tool. IT may sound crazy but if I had a mild sleep apnea I would be ok with that , because I figure once I lost weight it would go away . I really need to qualify for this surgery. When I had the lapband I went from 226 start weight , surgery day 216 and final weight was lowest 140 but maintained at 155-158. So now I am 190 and trying for the sleeve , tried when the band was removed but was told my bmi was to low and that only because I had the band as a tool, with out it , it has been a struggle So now I had a sleep study done yesterday, and they say it take 2 - 3 weeks for the results, if it comes back in my favor , I can start the process with the surgeons office once my Dr. sends in the paperwork. But when I look on the web site for my insurance it says you only have to have 1 comorbidity, when I call the insurance they can't give me an answer , so I mad an appointment by phone with one of the Bariatric Dr. with my insurance to find out, they are up in Denver so if he says one then I will get my doc to submit to them and I would go to Denver , But the surgeon in the Springs says 2 comorbidity I think they try to play it safe by saying 2 comorbidity but we will see. So is there anyone else out there in this situation??
  2. I remember when I had my lapband surgery in 2010 I was glad I was the first surgery of the morning , no waiting around being hungry all day and the Dr. was refreshed so I liked the am better good luck!!!
  3. Cool I will keep you in my prayers for approval.
  4. If you are selfpay I dont see them turning you down .keep me posted
  5. I know, that bmi is when I first got my lapband in 2010. I got down to 140 was my lowest but kind of hung out at 158 which I loved now I am back up to 189 a couple of pounds away from 35 bmi . If I could afford to self pay I would also good luck in whatever way you go.
  6. Hello, are story is very similar. You should try to get a sleep study to see if you have sleep apnea. I have a in home sleep study this Wednesday. Even though I don't want to have sleep apnea but to be able to qualify for the sleeve is a different story. I have hypertension. Good luck at trying to get your insurance to pay for it. I pray that things will go in my favor .
  7. It's me trying to see if I have another comorbidity for approval . I hava hypertension so just wanted to check sleep apnea my bmi is 35
  8. Will drinking alcohol make you fail a sleep study test
  9. Thank you for all your answer. Glad to hear I can take meds cause I wouldn't be able to fall asleep. I had read somewhere that it slows down your breathing so they wouldn't want you to take it.and it could relax your throat muscles more.
  10. I am trying to get approved and meet the requirements for a vsg I am 35 bmi with one comorbidities i am in the process of seeing if my insurance will pay for a in home sleep study, but want to see have anymore ever had one and took a sleep aide or xanax. If you did will that affect your test or the way you breath
  11. I have contacted the insurance company so may time to find out the qualifications. Its is 35 bmi with a comorbidity. But the Dr office says 2 , as far as approval the insurance company says the Surgeons office and the insurance company is the one that approves you. When I had lapband surgery in 2009 my provider sent the referral to the insurance company I received a approval with in 2 weeks then I went to the surgeon orientation then a visit with the surgeon I had to see a nutritionist and a psychologist no other class that process went so fast. But now the insurance company says I have to attend 6 weekly class that I can call in for because they dont fo the classes within 60 miles from where I live. Have to do a nutritionist, psychologist cardiologist and ekg. So since the Dr office that they contacted out says 2 comorbidities I have to go with that . I have a sleep study scheduled. If it comes back that I do have sleep apnea my dr will submit a new referral I think this time will submit straight to the insurance company.
  12. Hello, I had the gastric band out in 2017. Because of a dilated esophagus. I hated that because I really did well with it. I wanted to get the sleeve but since my bmi was low the insurance would not approve it , that's what the bariatric coordinator told me . So i went on with life but now it is really hard to get weight off and keep it off i try every day, some times i have slip ups . I am gaining my weight back, so i went to my PCM and she put a referral in for me at the same place i had my lapband put in and removed. The coordinator seem like she really didn't want to help me . I was calling ever couple of days to see if she received the referral. I told her i only had 1 comorbidity hypertension. She said she would speak with the dr to see since he had done my other surgery. He had told me in 2017 to try to keep the weight off, but if i started to gain to come back and see him I can't even get in cause she says my bmi is only 34 and i only have i comorbiditie. I have a sleep study on the 24 July to see if I have an apnea. My PCM is really trying to help me. May sound crazy but I hope I do so I can qualify I am on vacation now and I know I have gained even though I was not trying to but I knew I would. It is so hard. Any one else out there In a similar situation? Sorry for the rambling ?
  13. Congratulations I have just started the process I use to have the lapband and had to have it removed in 2017 it has been over a year, and I have started back gaining weight went to my dr for a consult and she is really trying to help me but the weight loss center says I have to be 35 bmi with 2 comorbidities I have one and 34 bmi. I am on vacation and I know I have gained weight . I feel terrible. I have a sleep study on the 24 July 2018 to see if I have sleep apnea. May sound crazy but I hope it comes back positive so I can start the process for weight loss surgery. I am happy you where able to get yours happy healing. And again congratulations
  14. Called and they said no but I might need two cormoditys I just have high BP said she would talk to the doctor. Because she doesn't see my referral yet. So I was trying to lose but I think I'm going to stop. Going on vacation and I know I will gain weight unfortunately. So I pray that they will see me when I get back cause Iknow there will be weight gain
  15. I had the lapband surgery in 2010 everything went well I went from 216 to my lowest being 140 then I start having problems with it and had to have it removed in April 2017 at that time I was 160 I wanted to get the sleeve but because I was that weight I didn't qualify even though the only reason I was that weight was because of the band now I have started gaining weight again my Dr has out a consult in for me but I know I am going to have to gain weight I am 180 now I need to be about 195 I have commodity of BP . But I think having to gain makes me scared, because if they dont approve it and know I'm bigger. I have thought of the weights how did you hide them also how where you able to bend your knees without them noticing
