The Best 5 Grand I Ever Spent
I’ve always been skinny but after I got to 22, I put on a massive 12 kilos in 6 months. I went from 49kg to 61kg and I felt depressed and ashamed.
I was constantly overeating which left me feeling bloated and ill. I started wearing a tight belt around my waist so I could it would restrict my stomach if I ate too much. But I would just end up just loosening the belt. Then I read about lap band surgery and thought it was for me.
I lived on huge meals of low calorie vegetables and I liked the idea of eating small balanced meals instead.
I was living in Asia at the time and I saw over 15 lap band surgeons who all refused me the surgery. I was frustrated but not deterred.
I finally contacted a weight loss surgery hospital in Mexico who said they would do the surgery.
After I travelled to Mexico I was glad no one at the clinic had any objections to operating. Only the American nurse said ‘but you’re already so slim’ and then she continued with ‘I know; you’re hot and you want to stay that way’.
Going into surgery, I was terrified. I had not told a single person in the world I was going to Mexico or having the surgery. When I woke up I felt like I’d been stabbed in the abdomen and left to die. The ensuing days were like a blur of constant searing pain. It was a slow journey to feeling better but the hospital staff were excellent. I was able to return to my home country a week later.
Having the lap band didn’t really help me lose weight. It was only when I had the first fill that I started losing weight quickly. I was elated when I lost 10 kilos in 2 months. I eventually lost 20 kilos so I was 42 kilos and far too skinny. I’ve now put on 5 kilos and am very happy with the way I look.
The lap band has given me great freedom. I used to be on such a strict diet and now I don’t worry any more. I mostly live off protein drinks and I get all the nutrients I need.
As an additional bonus I had suffered from severe acid reflux for years. After getting the lap band I have not had one episode of reflux. I think the band prohibits the acid from coming up from my stomach.
Some people get tattoos; I got a lap band. My lap band is my best friend and it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
