  1. Hi Mike, The surgery was fine- i went in on tuesday morning and left wednesday afternoon/evening. One thing you should know is that when you are on liquids after surgery-- you will be given 1-2 cup servings of broth, tea, Water and you are supposed to as drink as much as possible. I was under the assumption that we only had two ounces at the most, but apparently that only starts with the mushies stage. I'm still on pain killers, so I can't type too much. I hope your surgery goes well- it is such a relief now that it's been done. Let me know how it goes!

    January Bandsters???

Hello Everyone, I will be banded on January 2 and I cannot wait. I have been on the pre-op diet since December 23 and am feeling good. My surgeon and nutritionist want me to have a diet that's around 125 carbs, 60-90 grams of protein and 880-1100 calories and I have stuck closely to that (protein drinks, meal replacements, 1 serving of fruit and 2 servings vegetables). I am however, having a hard time with the protein drinks- they either have a chemical taste to them (Myoplex Carb Sense) or are too thick and chalky (Spiru-Tein). Does anyone have any suggestions of protein drinks that are more palatable? 1721summ

    January Bandsters???

Hi, I'm being banded on January 2 at Northwestern Memorial hospital in Chicago, IL. I start my pre-op diet on December 23, but I think it will be fine. Let's all keep in touch!
  4. Hi Sivan, I completely understand where you are coming from. I lost my leg just above the knee 4 years ago and have since gained 80+ pounds due to mobility restriction. I am being banded on January 2 and hopefully that will help me shed some of the weight I've gained since my amputation. I think any movement will help with the dissolution of gas pains. Also, I think swimming (once stitches are healed) and Pilates may help you gain strength but not impact your joints too much (those are my plans for exercise). Another thing I use sometimes is an exercise DVD entitle "Waking Away the Pounds". A quick search on Amazon can provide you with lots of variations of in-home walking/movement DVDs. Good luck! 1721summ
  5. Hi, I too am fully confident in the doctors and staff at Northwestern. I'm not sure how I got Nagle, I think it was probably just luck. I have my final meeting with the nutritionist today and will be giving blood samples later in the week to be cleared for the surgery. I'll find out this afternoon what my pre-surgery diet will be, so I'll let you know what to look forward to, if you'd like. 1721summ
  6. Hi Mikeomando, I am being banded on Jan. 2 with Dr. Nagle at Northwestern and have been a patient of the Wellness Center's for a few years. I'm a little nervous, but I think things will work out well. Let's keep in touch!
  7. Hello, I am somewhat new to this website and wanted to say hello. I've found many of the posts quite informative and I look forward to keeping in touch. My question is: are there bandsters that also have a mobility-related disability? I am 30 years old and a right above-knee amputee and have been so for four years. I lost my leg due to trauma (I was hit by a car while vacationing in Bermuda) and since then have gained almost 80 pounds. I have been approved for lap-band surgery and will probably have my surgery in 6 weeks or so. Can anyone address any of the special needs or difficulties after surgery you faced due to having a physical disability? I am also interested in seeing if any amputees had problems with their prosthesis' fitting correctly. Thanks for your help!
