I am in the "thinking a lot about it" pre-commitment phase.  I've had a shortcut to a doctor, on my desktop, for almost a year.  I visit, read it again, think - NO! I won't do it.  I can do this on my own with diet & exercise.  Then, after I fail at another diet...I go back and read it again.  This time, I've signed up for a patient seminar and joined this site to read real life stories.  I have a BMI of 43 and am not even sure I can get this approved by insurance (BCBS), if I decide to proceed. My biggest fear (aside from complications): The surgery would prevent me from experiencing new foods or appreciating wonderful flavors. Though I want to be at a healthy weight for many, many reasons - my love of food is not obsessive, I'm just a foodie and so is my husband!  We love to cook & try new recipes.  We want to travel the world and taste it too!  We are not very far from our first European trip....If I have lapband, will I be able to realize these lifetime dreams?
