Kansas City Area avoid Dr. Selim & KU Med
I'm trying to be! Being only 17 it will be harder. The surgeon himself, I think Dr. Hoehn, said it won't bother him...just the whole emotional and mind thing. So I'm worrying about the physicatrist. Lol sorry about that spelling. Then you need to send your packet of 8 pages, which you get the seminar, and send them to YOUR doctor. Not them. Your doctor then has to send all your weight history, office visits, and recent lab work. After they recieve this and check it. They contact you and make an appointment with thier physician. At your first visit you have to have $500. Non refundable. It covers the seminar, insurance things, clinical support, education classes, and post op supportive groups. Yeah they go all out. Lol. If you clear all of thier doctors...I think ones like Cardiac, Pulmonary, Phychologist and a Dietician. Not sure. But you HAVE to pass their tests. Once you have they will send "your letter of medical necessity" to the insurace company. Once insurance approves you will have a pre-operative visit and then make your surgery date. That's thier way of doing it. But otherwise...traditional things like BMI of 40, unless you have co morbities, and 5 years of obesity. Sorry that it was long.

I would try Welcome to the Bariatric Center of Kansas City, Providing surgical solutions to obesity. They are a center of excellence. I'm waiting for insurance to approve me before I go back for therapy and other tests. It's required to go to an informational seminar. The surgery doctor and the therapist both seemed very nice.

Unsupporitve Friends?
Well talking to them...that was great fun. Skinny one...it's dumb, God made you that way. But it could be fun to share clothes. But you do know that everyone is going to talk s**t. One my size, maybe like 12 pounds lighter. "it's your choice...but I think it's dumb...God made you the way you are...I'm fat and you don't see me going having surgery for that kind of stuff." Well...I'm not really into her style of clothes. And God didn't make me fat...I did by eating way too much. That makes me mad...but I don't care in a way. With or without thier support I will be just fine. Just would be better with. Lol...my mom will be getting the sleeve done around the same time. I know she will help me...and she will help me a lot. :]

Unsupporitve Friends?
Thanks :]. I think they both are scared that I will change. Sure I will in some ways but not the way they think. I had to re word that, I don't think I will be prettier than her. But that she will feel competition. This is what my mom said lol. What they did that bothered me was say they support me. Then talked to each other about how much they didn't want me to. But I need this. I'm going to do it no matter what. :]

Unsupporitve Friends?
I'm 17 and I'm just waiting for insurance to approve me. My two close friends are both in a way not supportive. One's my size and the other is skinny. The skinny one is conceited, I still love her lol, I think she feels competition. Like she doesn't want me to lose weight because she THINKS I will be prettier than her. The one my size...she obviously knows how I feel...but she's not supportive. Not sure why. Anyone have these problems...or solutions? It would be so much better if they both approved.

17 and below
I think you should go for it...I'm in the process of getting it. I just turned 17 this summer. I think it will be very life changing in an awesome way! I don't think it will be horrible to where you need a TON of family support...your going to need some though of course. It would just depend on how sensitive you are.
