officially on the looser bench ;)
I got banded yesterday :cursing: Turns out i don't have a hernia (the results were shoing something else) so i ended up going home the same day. I don't remember anything! I just remember them saying that i will fall asleep in a few minutes and I don't think i even heard them say the word minutes..i was out. i hope up with lots of pain in where my port is and extremely sleepy. I slept the entire day yesterday. Took more pain killers around 10 and now i am up at 1:30 am. I was nervous about keeping hydrated bc i read that it is very hard to drink right after. i had no problems whats so ever sipping down 4 oz every 15 -20 min. In fact, i don't feel like i have a band in me at all just the port lol. So i am going to concentrate on the liquid diets till Wed and then I get to have some soup..yum yum. and thank god for Oxycontin!! I have been hiding from my 2 year old in the bedroom so that she doesn't jump all over me, but my dog has not left my side from the second i got home. He is so sweet..he just lays next to my stomach and is keeping it warm. ok, i am going to go back to bed and get some sleep.:cursing:

weird!
I am having my surgery no Monday (10/26/09) at 9 am. Did all my pre-op all happy. Get a call at 4;30 on friday from the insurance coordinator at my doctors office stating that the Doctor found a hernia and that it will need to be repaired. Insurance have been notified but i have to stay over night. I was shocked. Where and when did the find the hernia????? what the heck are they talking about. I requested a call back either from the Doctor or a nurse since the ins. person couldn't tell me anything. I still have not heard back and a little "WTF" about it. I know i can speak to my doctor on Monday but where the heck is he getting the idea that i have my hernia. If its from that gastro test - ok. but i had that done a month ago and that doctor said everything looks fine. So i am a littel baffled.:blushing:

Finally!!!
I got my approval today wahoo!!! Tricare is seriously the best when it comes to this process. Thank you Arlene at Tricare for making this almost a clean/easy process. They offered the surgery for this Monday! I would totally go for it but I can't because of my job. I still have so much stuff to take care of that I just can't take any chances. So I am going in on Monday, 10/26. Just one day pre-op liquide diet which is totally fine with me. Words can't express how excited I am about my future :scared2:

Experience Bandsters- Please tell me...
Hi. I just came back from my pre-op class and that was one of the questions asked. The nurse and the Doctor both said that there is no reason why you can't take that pill. I showed them my pill which is huge and they said that I will be able to take it with no problem. However, they said that if we don't feel comfortable: either run it by the primary (or whoever gave it to you) or ask the pharmacy if it comes in other form.

oh oh
Thank you for that! You are right - I should just tell him when i can do it and not when he wants to do it. He has this habit of doing things when its convinient for him but because of my daughter I try to do whatever benefits her ..not him. As long as i am ok to take her out on Haloween - I will be ok. I can make him wait till then  Thanks!!!!

oh oh
So I didn't tell my soon to be ex-husband that i am having this surgery. He just called and said that his unit (he is in the coast guard) will be stationed in my area around 10/26 and will be here for 2 weeks. At which time, he wants me to drive my daughter to him few days a week so he can see her..Well, my surgery is on 10/27. Crap. I still don't want to tell him and never will tell him because he just sucks...but i don't want to keep my daughter from seeing him while he is here either. and he has no way of getting to me either. so do i just tell him that I am sick that week and can't drive her? grr. ideas please!

How Much Time Off are You Planning?
My friend just got banded and she initially wanted to come back to work after a week but she ended up taking an extra week because she just didn't have energy. Plus our job offers 100% paid shot term disability and we have to be out for more then 6 days...so it just makes sence. I filled out my paper work for 2 weeks off and i am soo looking forward to that  good luck

To tell or not to tell
I think I would say the same as you - working out and eating right. You are not lying - you are just not saying everything. But the truth is that the band doesn't make you loose weight - you loose it BECAUSE you are eating right and excersing. From my experience, a lot of people ask you that just because they want to hear some kind of a new and exciting weight loss program. When they hear "diet and excercise" they loose interest really fast lol.

List of October Bansters
Just found out that I am going to be banded on the 27th!!!

a little scared to get excited
The office called to day and told me that my surgery is in 18 days! They scheduled me for 10/27/2009. However, they just sent the insurance stuff to Tricare and tricare has 72 business hours to respond. I am afraid to get all excited and Tricare denying my claim. I already let my manager know that I will be out for 2 weeks and filed all my paper work for short term disability - just one thing left....insurance. UGGHHH. So I am going to pray to whoever will listen that I really really really want this and need this so pretty pretty pretty please approve it! thanks

Starting to loose hope.
Hi there. I am sorry you are going through such a hard time. I have Tricare and i am in the middle of the approval process but I have done a lot of research wtih Tricare and according to their stardards..you do qualify. Have you seen the paper work that they received? Is it possible that the height, weight BMI is incorrect?? I would not loose hope. I have met a lot of people on this website as well as on the gastric bypass site that had to appeal few times and they got it at the end. I hope that it works out for you and don't take "no" for an answer.
-
So close but yet so far
I have completed all my requirements and the only thing that is keeping the paper work from goign to the insurance company is the letter from my primary. Everytime I speak to her she says "Yes, I will have this done and faxed ASAP"...it has been 2 months. The good news is that if i get approved, my doctor has available dates in october and in november. Its a little frustrating but it is also giving me more time to work on my pre-op diet and get used to eating healthy. ok, i am done venting

Side benefits of surgery???
Hi  I am not banded yet...however I think one of the major side benefits for me is my self-esteem no longer hurting when I fly. first time in 29 years I had to ask for a belt extender when I flew to Cali last week. ouch.

Any November 2009 Bandsters??
Sue, great idea about stopping drinking soda now. I am actually drinking much less soda now just because it upsets my stomach now - but once in a while I just get this craving for something bubbly. I am going on a girls vacation to California next week for 7 days so I decided to enjoy the vacation, enjoy the food, enjoy the drinks but the second I land...its strict healthy eating. during the trip - I will work on water intake and I will substitute one meal with a protein shake however for dinners - I will enjoy all the wonderful foods especially the fish tacos. yum. My doctor hasn't said anything about the liver shrinking diet as of yet, but I thought i would give it a headstart as of 9/23/09.

Not gonna be a statisic
I love everbody's positive attitudes and drives. I believe that all of you will reach your goal and stay there for the rest of your lives because nobody wants to go back to to the unhappiness. My surgeon said that I will only loose like 50% and be at 200 lbs. he said that is fine because that will reduce the risk of heart failure..etc etc. I refuse to go through this and still be so overweight!. He said that its impossible to loose 100% of your extra body fat...but I have seen plenty of people on this site alone who have done that. I know I can do it..there is no reason not to. Good luck with your goals..i know you can do it!!!

Newbie here.. inquiring mind
I believe that you can get an unfill before the procedure. Also, I read that if you tell them that you have a band or GBS they should be able to order you a different kind of prep. its a different contant and comes in a much smaller bottle. Also, if you do have to drink the big bottle, start earlier in the day - not at 6 or 7 pm.

Any November 2009 Bandsters??
Hey Guys  That totally sucks abut starting over. Granted - this process is kind of going fast for me but I think I would probably scream because I had to pay cash for nut and psych appoitments. So i am so glad that you already have set dates for November - its right around the corner. So what have you all being doing in preparation?
-
Cheating: oh how I regret it
Hello, According to my Nut's instructions: I can have - low sodium Vegetable juice such as V8 - IN THE FULL liquid DIET 3-14 days after the surgery. - in the next mushi phase: soft-cooked Carrots, squash, green Beans, broccoli, cauliflower - all other vegetables should be pureed.

Worried about how to chew....
Hi, I have been practicing taking smaller bites and chewing each bite at least 30 times (per my nut's instructions). What really helped is using my baby's spoons/forks. They are tiny so you can't pick up a big amount anyways. Also, I am not eating in front of the TV. I am actually sitting down at the table and paying attention to every single bite - on how many times i chew before swallowing- made a HUGE difference. i know how you feel about the speedy eating. Sometimes thats all you have time for but for the sake of the band..we must slow down and actually enjoy the food  good luck!!
