Banded 6/19/09- have questions and looking for buddies
Jslone- I was also banded June 16th! yeah!! You are going through the EXACT thing I am right now!! I have like no restriction. I mean I get full faster and am obviously eating less but I have been able to keep everything down and I have been eating really good and healthy but not too concerned with quantity. I Just eat till im satisfied, not full. I am not drinking with meals nor am I eating breads, pasta or rice. I am able to eat chicken fine and its filling. I eat scrambled eggs a lot too, they fill me up! Hang in there, once we get our first fill we will feel different. Enjoy the "freedom" right now of being able to eat many things and drink more!

Shoulder Pain?
dhall- That makes sooo much sense for it to do with nerve pressure because when I moved certain ways it make it worse and other ways made it better. Very good to know!

Shoulder Pain?
I got it to, same spot. I got it a week after surgery and it was consistant every night for about a week. Nothing made it better for me except to lay on it. I dont know if the pressure helped or what. There isnt a whole lot you can do about it. MMy surgeon did say though if it lasts took long and gets really bad, it could mean your tube is pressing on your diaphram and causing the pain in the shoulder. Didnt make sense to me but he said its happened. Hang in there!

Just banded...
Congrats! I was just banded on 6/16 and am also on puree. I dont know if your allowed to but I eat scrambled eggs with onions and garlics and fat free cheese melted on top. I also LOVE baked sweet potatoes with a little margrine and salt. I also make sweet potato fries. I bake them and leave them still soft. All these have good Protein. Also Carnation milk drinks are good and dont taste like a "diet drink". Bananas with Peanut Butter. PB has good protein. Another thing I do is fat free taco bell refried Beans mixed with pureed salsa and fat free cheese melted ontop. Look on the website. So many good recipes! Good luck!

Hey new to the site and need some help!!
Hey! I also had to pay cash for surgery. My insurance covered it, but my indiv. plan through my company didnt. So I took cout a loan for it! I am so glad I did it. I am only 2.5 weeks post-op. Im not going to lie and say its not painful, cause its major surgery. I was in the hospital overnight. The most painful part was just not being able to use your stomach muscles and man I never realized just how much you use them. After about 4 days I was up walking on the treadmill (slowly). It took a good week for me to feel back to normal. Still had sensitivity in the incision sites, but now at 2.5 weeks post-op Im totally back to my old self. It was a quick recovery and overall not as painful as I thought. The worst part as many will agree is the gas pains. If you can deal with that, you're golden. Good luck!

How long until 1st fill??
Hey guys! I am 2.5 weeks post-op and in the mushy stage. I am completely healed and have full appetite back and feel no restriction (obviously), but my surgeon said my first fill will be 6 weeks post-op so another 4 more weeks. I dont know if I can go that long. I mean I feel so normal like nothning took place. I mean I get full fast and it lasts long, but I can eat basically anything and feel fine. When did you get your first fill??

Liquid / Puree food suggestions
During my 2 week pre-op liquid diet, I did all V8 fusion juice, yogurt, Jello (not red), Protein shakes, crystal light. During puree stage I stuck to mashed sweet potatoes or yams, fat free refried Beans mixed with salsa topped with fat free cheese, potato soup.... These are the toughest stages, hang in there!

Is it just me?
During my pre-surgery liquid diet, I was supposed ot hit 1200 cals and rarely did. Only issue is you will send your body into starvation mode and you wont lose weight. My BF is a personal trainer and got really mad at me for not doing all my cals. I only lost 8 pounds during my 2 week liquid diet, should have been more. A good day to get more cals is juice. Many juices can have 200 cals for 8 oz. I would fill up on juice just to get my cals. Hang in there!

Gaining weight before 1st fill...HELP!
So I am 2.5 weeks out. I just moved onto the "soft food" stage from lliquids. I dont get my first fill for another 4 weeks. I am reallu worried about gaining weight during this time due to my hunger cravings being back. I know this is supposed to get better after my first fill, but what until then? IM working out 5 days a week. Did you guys experience weight gain during this stage before your first fill?

Weight lost just on preop diet
Hey! I was on liquids 2 weeks prior to surgery and was told I needed to lose 10-15 lbs. I only lost 8 and I was devestated!! I cried as I got weighed in the day b4 surgery cause I was scared they would cancel it. They of course didnt. They just wanted to see I made the effort and stuck to the plan they gave me. We can't control what our body is going to lose. Some of our bodies are just stubborn! I thought there was no way I only lost 8 lbs in 2 weeks on pure liquid!

The time is near July 9th, surgery date!
Good luck guys!! I just got banded on June 16th! Kari you're lucky you only have to be on liquids for 3 days prior. I was 2 weeks!! I just finished my first stage (liquids) post op and moved onto soft foods! 4 weeks on liquids was killer! hang in there! its all worth it!

Gas Pains
I had surgery on June 16th, close to your date. My gas pains have been the worst part of the surgery. The left shoulder pains started a week ago and have been consistant around bed time. They were soooooo bad!! My surgeon said its completely normal for gas to move into the left shoulder muscles. Weird I know. He did say if the pain gets really bad for too long then the tube attached to the band could be pushing on my diaphram and causing issues in the shoulder. Keep an eye on it. Mine have finally lessened and are rarely there.

New Bander!
Hey guys! I have been using this website for quite sometime now getting answers to all my question when I was considering surgery and support since I have had it. Well I was finally banded on June 16th, 2009. I am currently 16 days out. I just moved onto my "soft food" stage 2 days ago and am DOING SO MUCH BETTER now that I can have stuff that sticks. My first fill is in about 4 weeks (beginning of Aug). I am from Bakersfield, CA and Dr. Irani did my surgery! Surgery was very smooth. No complications at all. I am healing well. It only took a good week before I was really back to normal. Now at 2 weeks I feel like I never went under the knife. I started at 253 lbs. I only lost 8 pounds pre-diet on liquids. I have lost 12 since surgery (16 days ago). I lost all 12 within the first 10 days after surgery. I am holding strong right now at 233 lbs. Can't wait to finally join in your discussions!
