  1. Hi. Here is my story. I researched the lab band procedure for 2 years before I actually had it done. My surgery took place on 4/1/10 and started out at 227 lbs. I've had 2 fills only-.5 cc in band when placed, 1st fill of 2 cc and then .5 cc last fill. I've lost 63 lbs. so far and almost to my first goal-160 lbs. I went from a size 18-20 to a size 12. I can't believe I'm actually in a size 12. I know you shouldn't be stuck on size but I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT!! I know this isn't for everybody but I am very glad that I had it done and would definitely do it againt. I had no pain and no problems. The incisions healed great and the scars look great. I'm even thinking of lowering my goal and trying to get in a bikini. Ha, ha we'll have to see. Thanks for letting me go on.
  2. Hi. I had my surgery on 4/1/10. I've lost about 63 lbs. and I'm very happy. My band had .5cc in when it was placed. My first fill was in May and I got 2cc. I just went in Nov. and only had .5cc added for a total of 3cc. I had a checkup with the physician's assistance in Dec. and he felt I was in the "green zone". I was wondering if anybody has these problems: some days I eat very well-no sticking, no neasua, etc. Can eat whatever I want except still avoid bread. Other days I have trouble after a few bites. I get neasua and the I get sick. When I get sick it is silvia. I've only gotten sick 2 or 3 times where it was what I ate but I figured it was because I ate to much. I'm thinking of when I go back in 2 weeks of have a little taken out, like .25cc. Can anybody tell me if they are having these problems and what their dr. has told them. Mine is saying the same thing: eating to fast, not chewing enough, or to big of bites. I don't think that is the problem as I've tried eating the same thing a few days in a row and one day is fine and the next I eat 3-4 bites and then I get sick. Please help. Thanks. Don't get me wrong I'm very happy with my results except for the above problems. I would definitely would do it again.
  3. :thumbup:Was banded 4/1/10. No problems with surgery. Came home that same day. Had my first fill last Mon., 5/17/10. Only got 2 cc instead of the normal 3 cc my Dr. usually gives due to some sticking problems. Since my fill I've lost 9 lbs. in 7 days. I'm afraid I may have to much restriction. I can only eat about 6-7 bites of food or small drinks at a time and then I feel full. When I do take either bigger sips or a little bitter bite I get a very discomfort feeling and it takes about 15-20 min. for it to go away. I did call my Dr. and the PA indicated that I may be almost at the "green" spot already. I guess my question is anybody else having this feeling after eating/drinking such small amount and got to the "sweet" spot as I call it on just a small fill. Thanks for letting me ramble on. I'm having trouble with the tricker so here is my stats: pre-diet 3/18/10-227; surgery 4/1/10-207; 5/23/10-195; goal-140 for now. :tongue2:

    Diabetic & lapband

Thanks everybody for your replys. This really gives me hope. I saw my surgeon the other day and he had mentioned the bypass might give me more of what I wanted but he told me to do what I felt comfortable with. I do have 6 mon. to think about it but I'm really leaning towards the band. I'm defintely not comfortable with the bypass.
  5. Hi. I've posted a few times. I have Type II diabetes. I'm looking to have the band done and was wondering if anybody out there also has Type II diabetes and had the band done and what their results were. I really would like to get off most if not all my meds which is probably the main reason for the band would be to improve my health. At this time I'm taking Metformin 1000mg morning and night, Actos 45mg in the morning and then at night I take Januvia 100mg and also Prandin 10mg. As you can see I take quite a bit of meds for my diabetes. Thanks.
  6. Hi. I too had my first visit with my surgeon yesterday and he also tried to steer me towards the bypass. I told him that I was diabetic and that I would like to try to get off my meds or at least cut them down and that is when he indicated that with the bypass that I would likely be off my meds within a few weeks if not days. I told him I was very uncertain about the bypass and he indicated it was up to me but you could tell he wanted the bypass. I guess he's like all the other surgeons who have done hundreds/thousands of the bypasses and probably not as many of the lapbands. I'm still leaning towards lapband as I'm just not comfortable with the bypass. Got to love the surgeons who are programs with one track minds.
  7. Hi everybody and thanks for all the helpful information and encouragement from everybody. I'm new and this is my first post. I'm starting my 6 month diet this month, see my PCP on Mon. 7/13/09 for my first weigh in , and I can't wait as I'm scheduled to see my surgeon for the 1st time on 8/12/09 . My family is very supported especially my mom and sister as they know I've struggled with my weight most of my life. Like everyone else here have been on numerous diets and weight loss plans and you take it off but just end up putting the weight back on plus. The problem I having is that I work for my in-laws. Don't get me wrong I like my job but I'm having a hard time tellling my mother-in-law about my decision to have the band done. I know she will have concerns but I've done a lot of research over the last few months and I've just decided that I need this help with my weight. Can anybody give me help on how to break this awesome news to her? Thanks for reading this and letting me go on.
  8. Hi Delean, that sounds like a good idea. Would love to do that for you. Maybe we could do this together. Ha ha. I'm thinking about just waiting until I go to my surgeon in Aug. to tell her in a note, chicken's way out, of why I need the day off from work as I work for my in-laws. Maybe that is why I think it might be harder because of the time being off.
  9. Thanks everybody for your comments. I guess I just have to bit the bullet and tell her and let the chips lie where they fall. I knew she cares but sometimes you just don't want to deal with it. Thanks again.
