    Video Blog... I'm an Advertisement!

thank you so much for sharing your story. I will hopefully be banded some time in July. I was moved with tears when you mentioned the seat belt extender because I too had to ask for one last year and as I was placing the extender on the belt, I began to cry...so, thanks again...you look great by the way! and you did a wonderful job with your video. Good luck! hey..we're about the same age  i'm 34..240 lbs!
  3. congratulations! and good luck with everything! i went to my consultation today and left the dr.'s office feeling pretty optimistic. I am so mad at myself because I went through this whole process back in July of 2006...I had my surgery date and everything but, chickened out at the last minute!!:eek:now...my insurance requirements have changed and now i HAVE to wait six months before i can have the surgery. But, that's okay I am willing to wait and I will continue to eat healthy and hopefully lose a couple of lbs before the surgery. Anyway this is not about me...I wanted to send a quick thank you for your post because it is very encouraging to know...keep us updated!!

    Looking in to Lap Band

has anyone had the lap band surgery done at the bariatric center in illinois? (belvidere, il) my Dr. will be Dr. Boe. He's performed over 1,000 gastric bypass surgeries but only about 30 lap bands. He told me not to worry since the roux-y is much more difficult to do than the lap-band. Just wondering if anyone has been here...i'm a little nervous and excited all at the same time. thanks! oh, by the way i will be having the surgery on Nov. 27th. After cancelling twice. my last surgery was supposed to be july 25th and i got scared! i feel ready now:nervous all your input will be great!
  5. that was a good question phenry. i've had the same concerns. I was supposed to be banded on july 25th and post-poned the surgery due to all my fears. (hello to all the july bandsters!!! anyway, i am going to try this one more time because the reality is i am having a hard time keeping the weight off on my own. So, good luck! and thanks to everyone who gave the reassurance to go ahead and do it.

    July 2006 Band Crew

Hello July people!! and congrats on everyone who has banded thus far. After reading the latest posts, i was encouraged yet i'm still feeling sad:( my date is scheduled for the 25th. i have NOT followed my pre-op liquid diet and my pre-admission testing is actually today @ 8am. Won't be making it to that appt. obviously. I admire everyone's courage sticking to the plan and actually doing it. I could only last 6hours on the liquid diet! 6hrs!!!. As I sipped on my beef broth, i thought: this would be a great marinade for the steak i have in the freezer!! And, i'm not even a big red meat eater!!!! Needless to say, i am losing the battle here. I'm very hesitant to speak with the Doctor @ the Bariatic Center, since this will be the second time i am going to cancel. i wish all of you much success!!! truly! how did you guys make it through the first day alone? my hands were shaking and i felt like i could eat the refrigerator! i know it was carb withdrawal...i love my bread! anyway, i'll keep you guys posted...i'm so confused. Foodstampchamp, keep your head up!! you have made it this far. you can do it!!! good luck:) and i'll make sure to stay in contact with you.
  7. Hello All!! First and foremost, I would like to say that this site has been extremely helpful. All of you are so helpful and supportive..full of information! Thank You!!! That being said...I am scheduled for surgery in a couple of weeks (july 25th) I am absolutely terrified! :paranoid and excited all at the same time. I have tried and tried to lose this weight and it has been a very long, frustrating journey. Anyway, I've finally decided that the band would be a helpful tool to help me in this weight struggle. I'm trying not to let the fear overtake me. I was originally scheduled for the surgery on June 12th but, I was too afraid of complications, (like how long will you be in pain?) so I post-poned it. I am extremely healthy. I would much rather be a big healthy girl, than a thin unhealthy one. Also, I have a little toddler running around the house  and I'm wondering how much energy will I have after the surgery..I mean, i've literally talked myself out of this surgery time and time again because of fear, and I can't let this fear overcome me anymore. I have to remain positive because that's just who I am..it's always "glass half full vs. empty" for me. Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself as the "newbie" and hopefully, I will hear from one of you soon? By the way, has anyone heard of Dr. Boe in Schaumburg Illinois? He will be performing my surgery. Thanks again everyone. 5'3; 243lbs

HELP! I can't stand this anymore!

you can do it!!! you can make it! i start my 10 day liquid diet tomorrow. my surgery date is the 25th. i know it will be hard because i am a carb girl big time! (hispanics love rice! ) i will be going to the store soon to get my jello, and crystal light, and water, and soup (i'm not a big fan of soup) but, if my dr requires this, then i want to make sure i do my part. please feel free to pm me if you need more support, or any ideas....good luck and hang in there!

    Hair Loss

hello!! so........is it safe to assume that MOST of the people who have had this surgery lose thier hair? i naturally keep my hair short so i really can't afford to lose the little hair i have my surger date is july 25th if i don't chicken out..i'm really nervous, really, really. two biggest concerns: hair loss, and erosion. anyway, back to the hair thing: i thought if you took vitamins before surgery and after that would help with the prevention of hair loss. Or is it a lack of protein?
  11. luv2luv

    I'm not clear on Erosion

ZERO SYMPTOMS!! that is so scary. that is the only thing that makes me want to say forget it! forget it! i know the stats are like 1-3% correct? so, the likelihood of it happening to me is pretty slim but, still...so if you would have never had the endoscopy done, what would have happened? Does eroding of the band cause death? well penni, i'm so sorry this has happened. ( i just read your newest thread) continue to stand and don't give up!!! you are going to make it!!!!

    I'm not clear on Erosion

penni, i'm sorry that happened.. did you have any symptoms associated with the band eroding? this happens to be one of my fears as well.
  14. luv2luv

    Crazy Question

i'm sorry..i know i may sound naive or stupid?? but what do you mean by slime? is that a side effect to the band? please pardon my ignorance:( i really would like to know. thanks!
