ummmmmmm, sex after banding?
This is a weird question, but did anyone lose their sex drive as their weight continued to go up, and did anyone gain their drive back after they started losing weight with their band?

Lapband's dirty little secret
I am really sorry for your experience with your surgeon. It sounds horrible  However, I do want to just briefly, and respectfully point out, that it is not all surgeons who are like that. There are definitely bad ones, but not all are bad. My surgeon has been really wonderful. I am having my surgery in a big city hospital, which is also a teaching hospital. Most doctors in these types of facilities don't even have time to see their patients face-to-face. My surgeon called me personally two days in a row to work out some confusions with a test I had done (he also apologized profusely for the confusion), and additionally, I was having some issues with the billing department in the hospital and my doctor called the billing department personally to ask them what is going on (almost all doctors, big city hospital or private practice, delegate this to a secretary or researcher). I am so sorry for your horrible experience, but its important not to imply that that is the case with all bariatric surgeons. And if I move from Philadelphia (which I may in about a year), I know my surgical team will help me to get a referral to a new, equally excellent surgeon in whatever area I move to. Good luck with your search for a new surgeon (you should definitely report the old one) and I hope that you don't have any really serious medical complications as a result of your band!

Can I really do this? Nervous-Excited
My surgery is June 18th. I have been spending a lot of time on this site, reading posts of people who have been banded and successful (the successful part is really important!!). I like to look at the before and after pictures too and just imagine that it could be me someday! I'm also creating an eating plan which I am going to try and stick to. I pretty much plan to do high protein, low-carb. Its been helpful to start thinking of that kind of thing now. It makes me feel less nervous. Also, the weight loss (about 16 pounds so far) on the pre-op diet is very encouraging and makes me feel like I can do this!!

Messed Up BIIGGG TIME!!! Help!!
I haven't been banded yet (my surgery is June 18th), but I don't think you completely messed up. I mean, a week out is probably not the best time to eat foods like chicken nuggets and fries (just because you are healing), esp. if you ate them fast. You should go see your doc just to make sure nothing got stuck/slipped/etc. but if you are feeling fine then there is probably a good chance that you are fine (however, the only person who can tell you for sure is your doc). Just take it as a learning experience and keep on going with the prescribed post-op eating plan that you discussed with your doctor. Congrats on the 30 pounds! Use it as motivation to continuing working with you band and to stick with your eating plan!

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
I am also on slim fast for preop. Which are you using? Right now I'm using Slimfast Optima, but in re-examing the label, I found that there are a lot of carbs in it. I may switch to Slim fast low carb. What are you using?

Did you cheat on pre-op liquid diet
I am still on my preop diet and I have cheated once so far with salmon. My fiancee had just taken the LSAT (law school admission test) and he wanted to go for steak. So I had salmon. My surgery got postponed (it was supposed to be June 11th, now it is June 18th), so when I have my surgery I will have actually been on the diet for 3 weeks so I figured that it would be okay that one time. Hopefully I was right.

Liquid Diet Torture
My surgery was postponed (it was supposed to be today, but is now June 18th) so I will be on the pre-op liquid diet for 3 weeks by the time I have my surgery. I cheated once, but it was with salmon. I'd rather have 3 weeks of less satisfying meals, than wake up from anesthesia excited to have a lap band and find out that they actually couldn't do the surgery.

Dr. Ian Soriano - This is my doc
Dr. Soriano is my doc. He's a member of the bariatric team at Temple University Hospital. My surgery is June 18th. I feel so comfortable with him, I think he is an excellent doctor and I feel confident that there will be no issues with my surgery.

Getting Banded on June 11th!
Hi Misty! Thanks for your reply! Where do you live? My initial search for surgeon was nerve wracking, as I didn't know anything about any of them. I defintely had to do a lot of research to find the one I was comfortable with and who also had a reputation for being an excellent surgeon. On another note, my surgery got postponed to June 18th. So looks like I'll have to wait an extra week. Ah well. I'm still so excited!

Low Carb Peanut Sauce
Hi! Here is the recipe for the low carb peanut sauce. I'm not banded yet (June 11th!) but I think when I get to the mushies stage I will make it and add it to some pureed soft tofu. 1/2 cup creamy Peanut Butter with nothing added 4 tablespoons rice vinegar 2 tablespoons soy sauce 2 cloves garlic, crushed 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste) 1/2 to 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root (optional) 1/2 to 2/3 cup Water

Temple University Hospital?
Anyone here getting banded or has had their surgery at Temple University Hospital? Dr. Soriano is my doctor and my surgery is June 11th.

Low Carb Peanut Sauce
Hi everyone! I am crazy for peanut sauce. I love it. I found a low carb recipe for it, but it calls for '1/2 cup creamy Peanut Butter with nothing added'. What is peanut butter with nothing added - what does it mean? If anyone wants the recipe let me know!

Temple University Hospital?
Hi all! I am being banded on June 11th at Temple University Hospital. Was just wondering if there is anyone getting their surgery at TUH with Dr. Soriano (my surgeon) or Dr. Meilahn? If not, anyone from the Philly area getting it done elsewhere (Penn, Jefferson, etc.)?

Putting whey protein in a blender?
That is what everyone else has said also, and I actually just ordered the magic bullet last week with the intention of definitely putting my shake in it! I like smooth shakes with no lumps. It makes me nauseous when I can taste the powder.

I feel awful, is this normal?
I am on my pre-op diet for the past 3 days (my surgery is June 11). I don't feel too bad but my diet primarily consists of slim fast, no-sodium broth, unsweetened apple sauce, and sugar-free fat-free pudding (high protein shakes come only after I have my surgery according to my surgical team's plan). I may feel a little less energetic than usual, I'm not having headaches so much. I am losing weight, which is nice!

Putting whey protein in a blender?
Has anyone heard anything about not putting your whey protein powder (with milk or water, or whatever you add to it) in a blender due to the blender changing the the efficacy of the whey proteins? I think I remember hearing this in one of my nutritional consultations. Would like to hear what anyone has to say about it. Thanks!

who supports right to choose
Glad to see majority of people here are pro-choice. I also wouldn't choose to get an abortion myself, but I certainly have no interest trying to make that choice for others. I am especially not interested in having male lawmakers in Washington make laws that restrict a WOMAN'S right to choose.

Getting Banded on June 11th!
Hi everyone! I've been playing around on the site for a few days now and thought I'd make an introduction. My name is Jessica. I'm 26 years old. I just completed my Master's degree a couple of weeks ago. I'm from the Philly area (for now). I am getting banded on June 11th by Dr. Ian Soriano (Temple University Hospital) and am SO excited! I have been on my pre-op diet for 3 days so far, and am doing okay. I've actually lost about 6 lbs so far. I'm not really hungry...the biggest obstacle is getting through the cravings (especially for carbs and other fatty foods). I have actually been staying inside mostly, for that reason. I went out today and walking through the city, there were so many smells from all of the amazing restaurants....anyways, it didn't make it easier! I also created a blog: Violinist With A Band . I will really try to update it regularly. Its my first blog! Happy to be here and looking forward to sharing experiences!
