After my brother and father both died at the age of 56 I knew I had a sort time to make life changes so I will not join them.  Many years of gaining weight, losing weight then gaining the weight back (and then some) I began researching the Lap Band.  I found someone at work who had it performed and read many articles, blogs, etc on the internet.  I went to an overview meeting for more information and Dr Newman was the presenter.  I did not reakize how many different visits for tests had to be completed prior to the surgery.  Actually I thought I would have the surgery performed during my Christmas vacation.  Wrong!  I completed the testing and received support from my Primary Care Physician as well as my Cardiologist.  My cardiologist added a stress test to ensure I could withstand the surgery.  It has been 4 months and I have lost 85 pounds.  I went from a size 46 waist to my present 36 inch waist.  I no longer have to take the 6 pills every morning.  I have had 2 fills and will be getting my 3rd and final fill in November.  I've lost the weight by following the instructions of Dr Newman, the nutritionist and walking an hour per day.
