  1. I think BEK had it right when she said it is a huge commitment. You can't agree to do it but expect it to do the work for you. If you don't think you are 100% committed and ready to put your all into it, then wait.
  2. Alright well I don't get banded until July 20 but here are some of the NSV that I look forward to... Being able to fit in knee-high boots Being able to fit in all those clothes that I saved that were just a tad bit too small Seeing my collarbone Getting out of the plus size section
  3. I think this is a great thread showing that having the surgery is not "taking the easy way out" as some outsiders can think. The real struggle still is with making the right food choices, portion sizes, and having the willpower to go above and beyond.
  4. July 20th here!!
  5. Girl you sound exactly like me and me ex! If you asked me my type it would be at least 6' (that's on the short side haha), solid frame, nice milk chocolate complexion. My ex? 5'10", skinnier dude, dark complexion. It balanced though because he liked thick girls with big ol' booties and the closest thing I got to a booty is just fat haha love is a strange and beautiful thing though!!
  6. I hope I don't lose my boobies! Or if I do, that they don't become hanging pieces of skin. I'm a 42DD/F. In the past when I lost around 40 pounds, I lost absolutely NO weight in my boobs so I'm hoping that it's mostly breast tissue I got going on.
  7. I'm with you, I'm aspiring to be cured of my "NoAssAtAll" syndrome and get rid of this bootydoo thing I got going on. Hoping with the combo of losing weight and doing lots of squats/lunges, I can get some lovely lady lumps back there!
  8. Hey! Just wondering how much you've looked into the nurse corps? I've been an RN for 3 years now and have always considered going into military nursing, weight always being one of the stopping factors. After deciding to get the band and realizing the possibility of a military career, I've read in multiple places and from many people that having a lap band, as of right now, is considered an automatic medical disqualifier for the military. Anyway just wondering if you've heard anything about it!
  9. I just got approved this past week, and I believe my BMI is somewhere around 36-37. I have a horrible family history, as well as what they considered 2 comorbidities. After speaking with the insurance specialist at my surgeon's office, she suggested going through with a sleep study to show that I have sleep apnea. Despite not having any sleeping problems, it did show that I do have mild sleep apnea. I believe this was also a big factor in getting approved.
  10. Cincinnati, OH here!! OH - IO!! Holler
  11. I've had multiple abdominal surgeries in the past due to kidney problems, plus I had my appendix out. For those of you that have never had surgery before, it will be quite a journey. I say this from both personal and professional experience. A lot of people have nausea issues following surgery, myself being one of them - take medicine to prevent it, because the medicine is pointless once you've puked. It's best to medicate yourself around the clock with pain meds for AT LEAST the first 24 hours so you stay on top of your pain - playing pain control catch up is not fun at all. Abdominal surgery is no joke - you will find out that EVERY movement you do involves your stomach muscles. You'll blink your eye and next thing you know you're feeling it in your stomach thinking WTF just happened lol Also with laproscopic surgeries, the technique they use with the laproscopic approach gives you gas pains commonly in your ribs/chest and shoulder areas. You could take the best drugs in the world and it wouldn't necessarily get rid of this - the best thing is deep breaths and walking as much as you can. Farting and burping is good as well And lastly keep in mind that no matter what kind and how many meds you're given, your stomach skin, fat, and muscles were just brutally sliced open - there will be pain, it can't all go away.
  12. While it's true that somene should fall in love with YOU regardless of your size, we'd all be lying if we said looks have NOTHING to do with it. In many social settings where you would meet someone, looks are the first thing to be noticed. So even though once John Doe got to know me he'd fall in love with who I am on the inside, if he prefers typical blonde hair blue eyed athletic girls we may never get to that point. You can't really fault someone for having their preference, be it size, skin color, age, etc. It sucks but it's the reality of it.
  13. WOW!!!!!!!!! 800 calories from CoffeeMate? That's crazy!
  14. Let's have a moment of silence for the greatness known as SPANX!
  15. I agree with other posters - obviously you want to be respectful towards your parents, but you are an adult and you're married. When I told my mother, I followed it up by saying "I respect you and want to hear your thoughts on this, but just so you know, it doesn't change my decision" and she respected that. Also, get your parents more involved and educated on the procedure itself. Most times the negativity/fear comes from lack of knowledge. Knowledge really is power lol
  16. I don't get banded until July, but I've also been worried as being seen as "copping out" and for some reason that bugs me. My plan right now is to tell those closest to me upfront, be honest with the friends that I don't tell but are smart enough to catch onto it, and tell those half-truths to those who have no business knowing, such as coworkers etc. The place it gets sticky for me is thinking about dating after surgery. Do I say it up front? Do I wait until dinner and they wonder why I'm eating so little? Do I just not say it at all? What have you guys done in this situation...
  17. Hello! I just finished my 6 month "diet" this past February. I just found out this past week that I've been approved and am scheduled for July 20! It was a big pain in the ass to jump through insurance's hoops but will be well worth it in the end.
