9/16/09 Bra Fitting 101
Don't you just love it BG? New undies, thats when you really know, this is permanent, when you throw out the old briefs for hipsters, or maybe bikinis! Just got back from my monthly doctors appt. Lost 4lbs this month. Yeah, I 'll take it. We both decided not to do a fill. At first I thought I wanted one, but the PA. said, lets see if I have another consistent 4lb loss. Maybe I am at my sweet spot?? I wish bells and whistle and maybe a little confetti would drop when I am there. She said, sometimes if you have too much you are likely to start gaining because you are so tight that you start to unconsciously or consciously to eat softer higher calorie foods IE....ice cream. So, I decided to give this month a try without a fill, but if I don't loose you bet I am getting a big fill next month! Take care Barbara PS, The best (underwear) investment I ever did was to go to VS and have those "perky, young, skinny girls" measure me and buy VS bras. They fit like a glove and last 4-ever!!!

9/11/09 Where were you?
BG, as I read your blog at 10:30 pm. I have goosebumps running down my arms, as I knew it was 9/11 all day in my heart and mind, but did not purposely watch any local or national news..........That morning I had just dropped off my kids, at middle school (we use to call it Jr. High) My husband who works for the county in San Diego as a civilian was also a still in the Navy as a reservist. He was doing his couple of weeks active duty (thats required a few times a year) in New Jersey and was planning to visit the twin towers on his "own time" over the weekend. But that morning as I was driving home after dropping my kids off I passed my neighbor's house whose husband was not a reservist but full time active Navy, she ran out asking me if I had seen what had happened. I raced home.....in horror ....and watched. My husband actually had a cell phone (military issued) I called it immediately, and of coarse it wasn't able to connect. Next thing I knew my kids were calling from school, their teachers took them either into the office or maybe their room phones (to this day, I haven't asked them) All I recall is trying to reassure them, "Dad was going to visit the towers on his day off not Navy time" I finally heard from my husband, and he said he had seen the smoke and knew something horrible had just happen, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island was quickly off limits and all hell broke loose with police, national guard, and every branch of the Military. He saw the smoke and knew the air was toxic. He was standing on the causeway over looking New York as we spoke. "Oh My Gosh, BG, I am grateful that you wrote such a beautiful blog today, it made me think, feel and write (not very well) but never less express what a sad day in US history, but also not to forget those people who where someones sons, daughters, husbands, wives, moms and dads. God Bless. Barbara

8/28-30/09 Vacation (part 2) and The Horrific PB Event
BG, As I was reading your description of your PBing at the restaurant, I was chuckling so hard, my 2 mini schnauzers were watching me with concern, tilting their heads at me. What a funny story. So Sorry you went through that. But boy do I understand!! You just have a way of writing it so perfectly. I hope you are feeling better now you had a few days of liq. Barbara

8/31/09 The Band NEVER Takes a Vacation
Oh BG, Welcome back, we did miss you. I logged on everyday looking for your post, not remembering how long your vacation was going to be....First a quick update to you on me, I went in and only lost 1 lb. in a month!! Boy, it really sucks when you have to face the nurse. They look at you and you know what they are thinking, but once again, I am the one who is not following the band rules, so I just got to get up on that horse again. So, they gave me a little fill, I am at 6cc. I am like you and I am having so many incidents especially in restaurants where I ate too fast and that last gulp of water is just pushing me over the edge, to get to the bathroom fast before I puke in front of all these people trying to eat their dinner. Whats worst is that people are in other stalls and your feet are NOT facing the right way......I know my husband made a similar comment that yours did. Some days, its happening 2 & 3 times. I am surprised I am not sore like you. Anyway, I will be curious if after a few days things start to settle down with you and like you said its a combo of issues. But stress being the biggest. A few days without MIL might help. I bet you feel a dilemma with getting another fill, you don't want to overfill but you don't want to pass up the opportunity for restriction/weight loss... I don't know about you but Labor Day is going to be a huge challenge for me, we are going to northern CA. to see our very good friends who LOVES to Drink, Cook and Eat!! Barbara

8/17/09 Less Than DH
BG, Got home a little while ago, we went to the SD Padres VS. Chicago Cubs game, left in the bottom of the 8th. inning, Cubs 1, SD.0. Very boring game, only to turn on the news to see that the Pads won in the 9th. Yeah! then I wanted to check my email and saw your reply. Double Yeahs!! Thanks for your words of encouragement. If I remember correctly you are going to Scottsdale, AZ. My brother lives in Phoenix and its a warm time, but the desert is beautiful. My husband is taking our son over to Tucson Thurs. he starts his Sr. year at Univ. of AZ. Anyway,,,,,have a safe and fun vacation, you may surprise yourself and NOT gain that few lbs. but like you said, its a healthy and livable way. Sincerely, Barbara

8/17/09 Less Than DH
BG, WOW, congratulations! I can't believe how fast you are loosing!! Seemed like you just hit Onederland and now you are in the low 90s. My weight loss is so much slower. But, I have to admit, I haven't been as good as you. I was impressed you stop the other day and counted calories and added your protein and water amounts. You are following the "guidelines" so much better, it makes me want to.....so, once again, I am grateful to you and you taking the time to blog. Barbara

8/12/09 My Heart's in the Right Place
BG, Reading your post, it reminded me that my port is on the left side. I didn't know I had a choice, or would I even care which side. But my port has moved and is tilted. The 2 inch scare is 1 inch higher than my port. I feel like mine sticks out when I am lying on my back, there is a puffyness left side. When I feel it with my fingers I fell the roundness of it. I go in on Aug.20th for the next fill. Haven't had much weight loss at all this month, maybe 2 lbs. BARBARA

8/7/09 In the Zone?
BG, Its almost midnight and I just logged on to read your entry. Hopefully, you will get this. First of all I am feeling and dealing with exactly the same issues. I must say I was eating too fast, and my band was protesting. I threw up at least one to two times a day. BUt the last 2 days things have settled down. Its amazing how fast when that food is bound and determined to come up, how fast it does. Before lapband I never threw up ever, so the rare times I did was a biggie. But not now. I have even ran out into my back yard because I couldn't make it to the bathroom. The only down side to that is my dogs follow and I have to shoooo them away from it...I know TMIIIIII I am eating more slowly. I ate a lot today, (ate Mexican food at a my favorite restaurant, and then dinner at Islands which is a fun restaurant in CA.) but slowly....not sure if thats a good thing or not...eating too much is still too much....... The other red flag for me is the H20 as well. Way to thick urine and bright yellow. So my goal like yours is to increase the water and sip it slowly. Lastly, I need to address this issue with myself, is the good old "vino" goes down with no problems and its loaded with calories/ I need to make the conscious choice of stopping that, I know I would have lost so much more if I wasn't supplementing with wine. Congratulation's to you BG and Lucky Dog. Sincerely, Barbara

8/3/09 Head Shots
great pictures BG! You are definitely meant to be a blonde. You actually look younger and more youthful in the recent pictures. Maybe all that extra weight we carry shows in our overall mood, I know it does with me. I find I am wearing more jewelry and makeup these days, where before I didn't care. Barbara

CONGRATULATIONS!! Thats impressive!!! You have an advantage of having the 2cc primer fill, My 10cc band was empty until my very first fill a month after surgery. So you are ahead of the race already because you are probably feeling restriction from day one....makes me wonder why different doctors and weight clinics have such a wide protocols on the same exact surgery.

7/29/09 Restriction; an Urban Legend?

7/6/09 4th and 4
BG, God love you! THank you for making me feel "somewhat normal." Is it nice when there is no family Drama? You really can enjoy the family without the emotional roller coasters. I must say this has been a interesting holiday. I find my band will protest if I eat too fast. Which I know I AM doING. So, I am learning to be able to make a bee line to the restroom if needed. If there is any silver lining about puking it is that I do have SOME notice and enough to get me to run to the closest bathroom. ENOUGH OF BARF TALK. HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE WELL. AND LOOK FORWARD TO MORE INFORMATION SHARING. I AM IN SAN DIEGO, CA. IF ANYONE ELSE IS AND WOULD LIKE TO DO MAYBE A BUDDIE SYSTEM? jUST A THOUGHT. tAKE CARE MY BAND FRIENDS. bARBARA

7/6/09 4th and 4
BG, Sounds like you had a fun 4th of July. When I was reading your blog everything you were talking about sound so "mid-west all American, apple pie and patriotic" I love hearing about your siblings and your Dad's birthday, sounds so normal. Like a story book. We ended up spending the 4th on our firend's boat anchor off in the bay so we were in position to watch all the fireworks in about 4 different locations. Ate and drank too much. I was up 2 lbs in 1 day. Same thing, how can I gain so much. I am finding I am just eating too fast and the band is rebelling on me. Kathy imaluckydog, puddings, mash potatoes, lots of soups, apple sauce, oat meal, cream of wheat, yougerts, cottage cheese even chili. Best of luck to you. Barbara

6/22/09 My Back Garden
BG, Wow! Thats how I imagined your yard, garden area would look, so very different here in southern Calif. We are lucky to have a chunk of grass we call our back yard. Our yards are ity-bity , I think the lots on our block are only 5,000 sq. ft. most of it is all house. Thanks for sharing the photos. Barbara

6/22/09 Road Trip and NSV's
BG, As usual I love reading your posts. I didn't realize it is my 2nd month anniversary as well. I had 2 incidents just like yours, this weekend we were at a grad. party in San Juan Capastrano Beach, and I ate too big of a bite or didn't chew up my taco and felt the same pain, then panic because I too thought "oh no!" all these people and I going to start hurling in their guest bathroom! But it subsided and I felt blessed with just the pain no slime. Since my 2nd fill, I can feel restriction but only with food, not with liquids. I have one question which confused me, is your total 41lbs loss or 19 lbs? Regardless, its all good. My loss is a lot slower than yours. Enjoy the Jimmy B. concert, nothing that makes you feel more alive and happy then that!!!! Barbara

6/16/09 Fill 'er Up!
Congrats BG!! Did you get 1.5 ccs all at once? Or is this a combo from your first? I get my second on Thurs. my guess is that I am only going to get 3 maybe 4 ccs. Barbara
