  1. Thought I would start a thread for us local folks so we could exchange information about our meetings and local happenings. Our meetings are getting so big. See everyone Monday night.
  2. I am posting this in several forums hoping someelse might have had the same problems. I had my lap band surgery in june 06. I had had very few problems so I can't help my friend. she is in desperate need of help and is too sick to get on line to ask everyone. She had her lb surgery last wednesday (1-31). she had a different dr than I did. My dr put me on a liquid diet for two weeks pre surgery. Her's did not. She ate regular food until midnight before the surgery. She called me Sunday in tears. She was hurting real bad and throwing up. I told her to walk alot and rock in a chair to help relieve the gas pains. She just called me and is not any better. I just found out that she has also been running fever since the surgery. this morning it was over 101. I don't think this is normal. She called the dr and he said it was normal for some people. He made her an appointment for Monday the 12th. I think she need to see him before then. She said her stomach is hot to the touch but not the rest of her body. Her dr was Christian Thomas out of houston. Did anyone else use him? If anyone else had similar problems or has any advise for her, please let me know. I am afraid that something if very wrong with her.

Who Has Lost Over 100 Pounds?!?!

I have been waiting for what seems like forever to be able to post on this thread. This moring I weighed and had lost 100 lbs. I have averaged .38 lbs per day loss. I feel so good now. I now take no medicine (including Zoloft which I had taken for over 15 years). I have fulfilled my dream of riding horses again and over the christmas holidays logged over 35 miles in 4 days riding in the mountains. It was an awesome experience. Now I want to go to the mountains in Colorado and ride. Words cannot express the way I now feel about life. I thank God everyday for this opportunity for a second chance at life. I don't know if I would have survived much longer the way I was living. I was in such pain all of the time and my depression was getting serious. I even had a nervous breakdown about 15 years ago. That was then and this is now. The sun shines on me once again and life is good.

    Mt. Pleasant Bandsters

I am upset with the doctors office. I was told that the visits for one year were included in the surgery price. They even had me sign this paper stating that I would attend so many meetings or I would have to pay for them. I go yesterday and they tell me that this is for self-pay only. I have a very high deductible and no co-pay and this seems very unfair to me. Did they explain any of this to you before your surgery? I have been worried about not making enough meetings since Jan was cancelled. I guess I don't have to worry now. I was going to stay last night for the one in Texarkana, but didn't because it doesn't matter. They also only had me down for 3 meetings when I have attended 4.

Susan, Sorry to hear this. Will it be a very major surgery? How did they detect it? I know this is a bummer but at least now you know there is a problem. Now you will be able to really get going on that weight loss. Good luck and keep us posted.

She called her dr and was told this sometimes happens. Did anyone else run fever for a week? The dr agreed to see her on monday the 12th but I think she need to see one right now. Lisa, I got an email on my yahoo account that you had sent me a message via lapbandtalk. I did not get it. Resend it or mail it to jlogantx@yahoo.com I just talked to Tonya. She went to the dr yesterday and by the time she got there she had no fever. Unfortunately it came back up. She called the surgeon again and he agreed something is not right. She went back this morning and they ran some test. She is waiting on the results.
  9. This has nothing to do with lap band surgery. But it was so awesome I just had to share it with you. It is a video of a rescue of over 100 horses in the Netherlands. Have a hanky ready because it will make you cry with joy. We all get so rapped up in ourselves and our surgeries that sometimes we just need a feel good story. I know this sure did make me feel good. http://video.google.nl/videoplay?docid=-4584913278289860160

    Mt. Pleasant Bandsters

Hey everyone! I am sorry to say that we have a fellow Mt. pleasant banster that is in a world of hurt. Her name is Tonya Fagg and she works at Pro Cuts. She had lb surgery on Wed 1-31 and as of a little while ago was real sick. She used a dr from houston named Christian Thomas. She was not required to go on a liquid diet before the surgery. She ate right up until midnight before the surgery. She called me sunday crying in so much pain. She has been throwing up since the surgery. She just called and told me she has also been running a fever. This morning it was over 101. She calls this dr and he says it is normal. I don't think so. After a week, I was up and doing good. she still can hardly get out of bed. I am posting this message is several forums trying to see if anyone else had this problem. If you know her, you might want to give her a call and some support. Keep her in your prayers. I am real worried about her.

I finally did it. I called and got an appointment for another fill. I go on Monday the 12th. That is the same day as the support meeting in Texarkana so I think I'll hang around and go to it. I have missed several meetings. I have only been to 4 and I have to make at least 6. I'll still come to the one here. I hope this will get me back on track. I have the muchies sooo bad. I try to only eat things that are good for me but I am still eating too much. One lb in one month is not enough. That elusive 100 lb loss is looking further and further away. Guess I just have the blahs. I have had the crud the last several days and this weather isn't helping much. I feel too bad to work out. Oh well, tomorrow will be better. Hopeful the sun will come out and warm things up.

"HUH" Can't wait till the meeting to see if you are who I think you are. Everyone needs to wear a name tag telling what your name is on here. Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. I am so swamped. I don't know how long I can hold down two jobs. I am afraid I am going to have to quit subbing at the school. I really hate to because I enjoy the kids. This week I have been in the Ag shop. Everyone is working on the welding projects for the HOuston Livestock Show. I have got to find time to go and get a fill. I am starving to death and this is a first for me. I have lost 1 lb since the first of the year. I wanted to hit that 100lb mark sooo bad, but it is that elusive brass ring I can't quite reach.
  16. I have noticed one thing. When I am not loosing weight, I am loosing inches. Don't get discouraged. Get out that tape measure instead of the scales. I think the body has to have some time to play catch up. Another thing I have noticed is that if I cut back too much and I am not getting enough calories, this will stop my weight loss. My best advise is to keep a log of your food intake. You might be surprised at how much or little your are eating. Just DON"T GIVE UP.

I haven't been on in a few days. How is everyone? Sunday was so beautiful I just could not stay inside. I went to a friends house that had an arena that was not flooded and rode horses. I am so thrilled. I got on for the first time without the help of a block or ladder. I was beginning to think it would never happen. It was soooo embarrassing to have to mount with help. Everyone was always nice about it but it was still embarrassing. Is everyone having as much trouble getting back into the groove of dieting since Christmas as I am? I ate sweets during the holiday and now I just crave them. I have lost NOTHING since the first of January. This has been the longest try spell I have had. I seem to do fine during the day but about 8:00 at night I get so hungry. I think it is more in my head than my stomach. Oh well. I guess I just want too much too fast. At least I haven't gained. One more thing. Does anyone know of some thrift stores or second hand shops in our area that have some decent clothes. I hate to buy anything that is very expensive because I usually don't wear it very long. As long as it is clean and in good shape, I don't care if it is second hand. Goodwill and the other stores in Mt. Pleasant don't seem to have very much.

I'm around. I am sub teaching at the High School and doing taxes in the evenings. If I have a class where I can use the computer I usually try to check the board. Needless to say I am real busy. Lisa, don't worry about the fill. It really isn't bad. I give you the same advise I was given. DON'T LOOK AT THE NEEDLE. They will deaden the injection sight so you will only feel the pushing. I haven't called for a fill yet. I am so busy, I hate to take off to go. I am doing a little better so I might try it on my own a little longer. Question!! Will a fill cause more PBing or will it just keep you hunger pains down? I have a lot of problems with the golf ball feeling in my throat and am afraid if I get another fill it will get worse. Are they going to reschedule the meeting here? I hope so cause I really need it.

Hey everyone! I just got back from Ft. Worth last night. Weather was bad but we did not see any ice on the roads. Was there for the stock show. Had a great time. I just got a call saying the meeting tonight is cancelled. I was looking forward to it. I have really been struggling since Christmas. I think I am going to call today and get an appointment for a fill. I have only had one. I don't know if I need it as much for my stomach as I do for my head. Hopefully psychologically it will give me a boost. Everyone stay dry and warm.

    Goals and Dreams

I have really enjoyed all of the threads on pictures and weight loss. I would like to hear everyone's goals and dreams for the future. If you are having trouble reaching your brass ring, then everyone will help and encourage you. If you reach a milestone, pat yourself on the back, tell us about it so we can rejoice with you. I just love a feel good story. My major dream has been reached. It was to ride horses again. After years and years of being too fat to ask a poor horse to carry my fat rear around, I finally got on again. I have had two riding trips. On thanksgiving day I went on a three day ride and right after Christmas I went again. In five days I logged over 35 miles. It would have been more but the weather did not cooperate. It was great. Now everyone, let me hear your story.

    June 2006 Band Crew

My news resolution this year was to get back into the gym. This is the first time I can remember that it was not to lose weight. Anyway I finally started again. I had not gone in over a month and a half. I am so sore. Oh well, no pain, no gain. I have so much sagging skin. Hopefully lifting weights will help me get rid of it. I am looking forward to this new year. It is unreal how much change 2006 brought me. I am a whole different person now.

Hey Lisa, You need to fix you signature so everyone can see your progress. Go to you user cp at the top of the page and then click on edit signature. You can type anything you want on it. Most put the date of their surgery, their fills, weights or favorite sayings. If you want a ticker, go to tickerfactory.com and follow the directions. When you finish just highlight your ticker, copy it and paste it into your signature. Click save and it will automatically update all of your post with the new info. Don't mean to be bossy, but as the weight melts away you want everyone to know about it and be happy for you. If you need any help, let me know.

The meeting is this monday at 7:00pm. It is on the ground floor of the hospital. To get to the classroom you have to go through the cafeteria. Congrats on now being a banster. How is everything going for you? See you Monday night.

    Foods question...

I have been told that the biggest no-no of all is popcorn. At our meeting the nurse warned us about it. The hulls can get stuck in your pouch, cause a lot pain and can even damage the pouch. I have not tried it and do not plan to. Some say that nuts are hard to get down. I however, eat a lot of cashews (for the good fat in them) and have had no problem. If I eat peanuts, I make sure the skin is not on them. I have only had one fill and can pretty much eat anything I want. Real fresh bread like dinner rolls are hard to get down but sliced sandwich bread does not cause me a problem. I don't know why, but I have a harder time getting chicken down than any other kind of meat. I can eat steak easier than I can chicken. Go figure!!!!
