  1. i am heading to shower now. we were closed with bondo/glue. no stitches. just can't submerge for 3 weeks, i.e. baths, spas or pools. but was told i don't even need to put anti biotic since the bondo has it already in there. been having shoulder pains from gas and took some gas-x strips. laid down a bit. now gonna shower and try walking around tj for a bit. there is talk about getting a massage around the corner. gonna make the best of my vacation! best wishes for all!
  2. all is well over here! staying the night at the clinic. they actually have computers here for the patients, so cool! able to get my LBT and FB fixes!! they actually asked me what kind of music i'd like to hear while in surgery.. i chose the 80's! cried when the wheeled me in out of nerves, but next thing i knew they were waking me up. made some great friends here. there are 8 of us that had our surgery today! and all are very friendly. the staff here is amazing! wait on you hand and foot. only can have Water, caprisuns, ice and popsicles. stomach has growled a few times but i don't feel like i need to eat. good to hear that everyone is doing well and made it thru!!! congrats to us bandito's!!
  3. in mx and have internet, tg!!! all checked in and just enjoying my last night. gonna enjoy my 'last meal'. hope all is well!!
  4. I'm leaving today too, heading to MX.......... I can't wait to read all the posts once I return. Good luck to us all!!!
  5. I found Pure Protein shakes @ Trader Joe's. They ranged from 21-35 gr of protein. And they are GOOD! For pre-op I would drink a Slim Fast in the morning, then a pure protein in for lunch. They extra protein would hold me over a bit longer than the 10 g in the Slimfast.
  6. my brother had the band already and said they'll give you a shot and the next thing you know, they'll be waking you up. it will all go smoothly!!! no more being fat!
  7. I too am getting the butterflies. I leave tomorrow for MX and the surgery is Fri morning! I can't believe after all these years of wanting this, it's FINALLY here!!! And of course, I am now going thru the "is this what I really want" phase/doubt. But I know that it really is!! I won't be home until Sunday but I look forward to checking the board upon my return to see how everyone is doing!! Good luck to all of us!
  8. i'm on Protein shakes and a lean cuisine and ANYTHING green... lettuce, broccoli, etc. but still I AM HUNGRY!!! this sucks! but i know in the end it's all worth it. less than 72 hours now!
  9. i do!!!! i've been trying not to think about it. it seems so surreal. one week from today, i'm gonna be banded. weird! if i let it, my stomach will go into nots instantly! i use the hour glass description when i explain the procedure to anyone. it just makes sense!
  10. I'm Friday the 22nd! I can't believe it's this week! That came FAST! Let's all keep in touch.
  11. All of you/us need to watch the MTV series, TRUE LIFE, "I hate my new body'... The young guy on there who had the band for 3 years and lost over 100 lbs, decides that he wants to try life with out fluid, so the Dr. takes out all his fluid. The first thing he does is goes to a restaurant and orders, get this: A turkey wrap with salad and vanilla shake, banana creme pie with a vanilla shake, lemon merengue pie with a vanilla shake AND a huge chocolate brownie with........ you guessed it a vanilla shake!!! He went thru this binge and when all was said and done, the guilt came on big time. Living without a full band for an entire week, he realized that he wasn't strong enough to maintain his new life and that his old ways were coming back again!!! He re-filled the next week. It was a very interesting episode. I get my band in 6 days and getting very nervous about everything, especially giving up my meals. But in the end, I'm sure it will all be worth it!!!
  12. Hey Junk.. Maybe I'll see you there. Mine is the 22nd with Ortiz!!! Where in SoCal are you? I'm Corona, 951! Good luck with your surgery!
  13. thanks for keeping us all posted.. i have been watching this thread for the past week. i am going down on the 22nd. getting so much grief (which is understandable) from family/friends. but unless they close the borders, i am going!! and the hype seems to have dwindled the past few days. good luck to all of us heading down to TJ!!!
  14. I am gonna wait till the 12th hour myself. I heard the rumor that they are thinking of closing the borders for 5 days... so let's see where that takes us. That's Mexico is closing, not the US. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
  15. I too have surgery scheduled on May 22nd with Ortiz.......... this is driving me crazy. I have already taken the time off (I'm self employed so to block out time is crucial!) and have finally made up my mind to have this surgery. I've been wanting it for years and now that I have the funds and the time, and the GUTS for that matter, this thing comes along! I am going to wait a few more weeks, feel it out. Be sure that if anyone needs a mask, it's the proper kind. Dr. Oz was on The View the other day and said that ONLY surgical masks can truly filter the air propery. I am actually thinking of asking my neighbor a nurse to get me some surgical masks. Good luck to everyone out there!!!
  16. tchr.... where did you get the protein shots?
  17. I am going the next weekend. Sugery on the 22nd. Staying at the Marriott... let me/us know how it is!!! Good luck!
  18. I don't know why you have chosen going to Monterrey but you may want to think about possibly going to a Dr. in TJ. You can fly into San Diego and they'll pick you up on the US side. I have my scheduled surgery with Dr. Ortiz in TJ. And from what I have found he is one of the BEST in the industry. And is a member of the FACS and American Bariatric. And I have had American Dr's say that I am in good hands. Not trying to convert by any means, but thought you'd maybe like to see another point of view. Good luck!
  19. Didn't know you were flying.. the rules may be different if so. I am driving over the border. Sorry to get your hopes up!!!
  20. You dont' need a passport unitl JUNE 2009. They put an extension on the requirement. I know there is a link somewhere on this forum regarding the extension! Do a search for passport Mexico. Good luck!
  21. remember, it's not really a surgery to 'repair' anything.. ya know?? it's just adding something. i think the healing time is more for the sutures so that they don't break/burst open. this countdown is killing me! i keep having these realizations that this is gonna be my last dot dot dot.... i worked a rodeo this weekend and kind had whatever i wanted. cheescake on a stick, French Fries, burgers.. and it dawned on me, this is the last one. I've been working rodeos for 15 years now.. so it was a kind of farewell. And I know its not like I won't ever have these things again, but it I know I'll never be eating this way again. And it's a good thing. But there is definitely a mourning/goodbye phase going on with me right now as the time clock ticks! And I keep reading good and bad things... and really hope I am making the right choice. That this IS the tool I need to finally win this battle/struggle with eating and weight. So that's a mini rant for now! Had to let it out!
  22. I am heading down to Dr. Ortiz on Thursday the 21st and surgery the 22nd!!! Keep us posted on how it goes. Especially how TJ's atmosphere is.
  23. Can you ask your Dr. here in the states if he'd perscribe something for you just in case?? I'm pretty sure you won't have any problems carrying it over since you'll have proof that you just had surgery.
  24. You & I are DOUBLE DEUCER'S!!! I too am on the 22nd!! My Dr. said I'd be able to drive about 2 days after.... I guess it just varies per person. I am not planning on driving for a few days at least.. but I know I'll start going stir crazy after a few. I'm always on the go! Let's keep in touch ok? We'll have to keep each other company during recoup time!
