March Bandsters: MASTER THREAD

Just an update I'm continuing to balance at a plateau mark, fortunately my first fill is coming next friday. This should make a difference. My frustration is I keep wanting the other food, not the high protein stuff. It's difficult to say no...

Soup ideas for post op phase?

My favs so far are this: Campbells Select soups in the box, the swouthwest and corn chodwer are awesome. They are week two foods though. Like it or not your body ONLY needs liquids for one-two weks post op. Don't cheat it's worth it. Then start using these and get creative. I also like strainig the campbell's chicken and sausage gumbo, just having the broth. Nice change of pace. It's actually very satisfying.

    Any March Bandsters...

Hey all. well Im on week 3 now. I had band on March 16th, down from 402 on day of surgery to 384 today. Down from 462 in the 6 months prior to surgery so I have made tremendous progress. Any late month banders, here are my suggestions for success: 1. Stay EXACTLY to the 2 week liquid only diet. Getting the liver out of the way by shrinking is soooo important to successful surgery/healing.Do chicken broth, do some strains of Soup about once every 3 days so you don'tget too discouraged. Stay with Atkins or other better Protein shakes. 2. Plan to be out of work at least one week. You could do it sooner but your pain and healing will not be good. 3. Get up as soon as humanly possible to walk after surgery. I did a lap of the unit within one hour of being returned to the unit. Also, use a spirometer right after as well. Ask for it. Blow the gas off the body and you will feel better. 4. Be careful what is put on your tray if you are hospitalized overnight. My tray was seriously screwed up. The doctors DID NOT change their mind, someone in te kitchen screwed it up, so point it out to nurses immediately if soemthin on your tray doesnt look right. They could have harmed my new stomach seriously that very first evening if I had not noticed. 5. When you get home, WALK. Oh and Walk, and did I mention walk? So important. 6. Get fresh air/ it will help you feel back to normal quicker, good for the lungs. 7. Two weeks out start to try some cloudy liquids, but stay to the post-op diet. Healing internally is everything. Any questions ask.

Any Men of March 2009 here?

Hey guys. Good to hear evryone is doing well. I'm 3 dyas out now. Monday 8am was surgery. My suggestion if you are in Knoxville, Tn area go pay the extra $3000 and do it through Parkwest. My physician at UT was good, but my service before, after and in the post surgery period was bad. I was in recovery 5 1/2 hours because "they had a special room for me and I had to wait for it to be cleaned, etc." Well, I woke up at about 9:15 am, got to my special room at 2:45pm, and then right after my wife left for the evening I ws told I needed to be moved to another room, becuase they needed to have it ready by 7am tomorrow. Not so special after all. The nurses came to check on me only 3 times in those 7.5 hrs. and then only when my wife went out after I had rang the bell for 30-45 minutes at a time.In all, UT Hosp. sucks. However, when I was trying to doze off for the rest of the evening (after 10:30 pm) I was interrupted about every 1hour on the hour the rest of the night. Where was that care earlier?? I was in pain the first evening, did walk the halls 2 times. Sleeping in the bed was uncomfortable, had to side sleep- a change for me because I'm a stomach sleeper. That will change for a while. The MD was good, Dr Mancini. Other than that, a bad experience. I was glad to leave. At home, slept better, however sleeping at night was tough, I folded a pillow to side sleep and this helped. Food wise, they brought sugar jello at hosp along with cranberry juice, with sugar. Good thing I knew not to take them. At home I've had SF jello, broth, chicken mostly, and water. I tried the unjury unflavored, packet it was notbad, it was not gross. I had the unjury soup and it too was good.Today bought fruit punch protein bullets, they were ok, a litle gaggy, but nice to get it in quickly and be done w it. Overall today I'm feeling much betterm walkd the mall, target, and at home walked about 1/2 mile. Doing pretty good. Still hard to get around up and down, but improving today. I have 5 scars, all dermabonded (superglue for skin) and they look good, no draining to speak of. Keep working!

    Any March Bandsters...

I'm scheduled for lap band tomorrow morning in Knoxville, TN. My Physician is Greg Mancini, with UT weight loss and surgery center. The process was a nightmare, but I'm finally there. I've lost 44 lbs. so far prior to surgery. I lost 10 pounds the first week on my 2 wk pre-op liquid diet. So far so good. I have an amazing and supportive wife, that will help me tremendously. Tommorrow 7am I get to start living my life without my best friend being food form now on. I look forward to sitting comfortably on an airliner, travelling.
