Low BMI bandsters feedback please!
knew about it at your age I would have done it I'm sure...We all had to start at your point to get to how fat we are now. It will only get harder once you hit 30. The only problem is you will probably have to get it done abroad instead of in the states and insurance will most definitely probably not cover it so either you will have to get financing or pay out of pocket at this point. Insurance denied me because I wasn't fat enough too but my BMI I think is around 35 at this point (not sure cuz I'm doing pre-surgery diet now). My surgery is in 8 days!!!! Just research, research, research it and make sure you are aware of the possible complications and food behaviors you will have to give up (i.e. bread's some meats, etc.).

Vegetarian Banders?
Hi, I've been a vegetarian for about 25 years now. I have not ate ANY meat in that many years, don't even remember what it tastes like! No Meat, Chicken, Fish or anything. I am due to be banded in 8 days. We'll have to stay in contact and compare progress and share band vegi recipes.

Lipo for Double Chin @ Same Time as Lap Band Surgery?
I brought it up to the Doctor, I had no idea he had a Dr. he "referred" business to. I then googled the Dr. Saldana and saw he had some good feedback and a lot of people liked his work. I'm just wondering as someone brought up to me in a PM, maybe they are quoting me too high for the additional "work" since I will already be under anestesia.

Lipo for Double Chin @ Same Time as Lap Band Surgery?
Hi, yes I tried to get approved by insurance but they told me know even though I had a few co-morbidities. I am going to Mexico to have this procedure with Dr. Joya and it is costing me $8000 - that includes airfare, surgery, hotel. No, I am not rich, but I make a nice living and am fairly succesful. I am paying for this cash, not financing. It definitely is a tidy sum and will take a chunk out of my savings, however, being healthy and pain free and feeling good about myself is priceless. I believe that once I am on the road to being healthy again I will be that more happy and will make even more money (less time off work, more energy, more sales, etc.)

Lipo for Double Chin @ Same Time as Lap Band Surgery?
Hi, I have a dilemma I need help with! I am getting the Lap Band surgery on June 26th and I spoke to my patient coordinator for Dr. Joya and he said for an additional $2,000 I could have Dr. Saldana lipo out my double chin fat that I HATE while I am under for Lap Band at same time. I have a little double chin even when I am skinny, everyone in my family has that fatty deposit there. What do you guys think? Should I weight until I lose weight? Would there be a complication or may it turn out ugly if I do it now? Your opinion means a lot! Oh, I'm 5"8 and about 235 lbs the last time I checked (doing pre op diet). Thanks! Alysha

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?
I went back and starting reading this whole thread. I APPLAUD Tired Old Man to his stance and opionin on the penal institution. I'm going to tell you my story that is private but I will share in the hopes of enlightening some of you. I was married at 18 and had a baby at 18. I came from a loving, VERY religious but lower middle class family. Well almost immediately after getting married I discovered my 21 year old husband was doing drugs. It got from bad to worse. He beat me and humiliated me so many times. I finally got the courage to leave him once I turned about 21. Well it got increasingly difficult to take care of my son financially after that. My family didn't have money to really help me. Day care was killing me as was rent, etc. and after struggling for a while (working and paying day care and still never having enough money) I made a very stupid decision. I was given a tantalizing offer from this guy that was the brother of a friend of mine to help me temporarily with my desperate financial decision. To fly suitcases to different states of marijuana for about $1000 per trip. I was so desperate that I decided to go for it (HUGE error in judgement). Well I got busted and did a year in jail. The women were treated horribly. I can't tell you how many times we had to be randomly strip searched for no reason. I can't tell you the # of times I was handcuffed to a fence in the middle of the night wearing only a thin night gown in the cold and rain. I did my crime however, and did my time. I was lucky enough to have a family that cared for my son while I was away and forgave me and let me move back in until I got on my feet. However, it made me so sad to see the number of women, mostly mothers that had no where to go or to turn when they got out. No job waiting for them, no rehabilitation class or job training, nothing. There were turned loose into the streets that swallowed them up, surely to go back and do the same crimes that got them there. I am one of the success stories, only because of the family and support I received after. There is no doubt that if I didn't have that I would have ended up right back there. I went to a job paying $6 dollars an hour and day care was a $100 a week. I slowly built up my career and now over 10 years later I just bought my 1st home. My son is an amazing child with love, morality and hope for his future. I make six figures a year with NO COLLEGE degree and besides having gotten fat over the last few years, I am a very happily married woman to my second husband that I met when I was 29 and has taken over of the role of my sons father (since his biological didn't bother).

If it were up to you, what laws would you create?
RACISM - I would make a law that racism was a felony. The sentence would be living with a family of a different race for 1 year.

What Kind of Music Do You Love? I'm a R&B Hip Hop gal myself
Well, I think the sounding hard part is kind of over, my complaint is now everyone is copying each other, whether it's crunk muzik, snap music, whatever, I like originality and uplifting lyricists. Fun stuff that wasn't so serious, almost self-deprecating at times... I like weird stuff too, What u think about gnarls barkley?

What was YOUR last straw?
Mine was when I get Planter Fascitis (severe heel pain) I had been working out several times a week when this happened and really trying to "do it myself". After I found out I couldn't work out for a few months until this healed and I thought of the more weight I would gain because of this I said NO MORE. I need to do something now as I have just creeped into the size 18/20 and I can't even stand to look at myself in the mirror anymore.

Insurance questions (getting insurance after the band)
Wow, *bumpo* Melissa Lea, I think I will leave that out of my records too since I'm lucky enough to be covered by my companies insurance automatically but you never know what the future holds where I might have to pay for my own....

Unethical bandsters?
*bump* to that thought Cashley. I tried to fudge my height and weight when I tried to get insurance to pay for it but I was still denied because I wasn't fat enough and not enough co-morbidties at 5"8 and 225 lbs. A year later, I have gained another 10 lbs (not trying) and have just decided to go to Mexico and pay for it myself. However, I do feel insurance should have paid for mind due to family weight related complications I am sure to get if I keep packing on the pounds, not to mention my heel spurs, dangerously high cholestoral, almost 300!!! and heart palpitations. But i would not have felt guilty AT ALL if insurance would have paid for it had they approved me last year.
