Young one from TN!
Welcome and I will keep my fingers crossed for you and your Mom and sister. It is a wonderful tool and I love my band. I didn't have to do a preop diet because I had to pay cash for mine in Mexico and they don't require it and I'm 5'8" and was 280 pounds surgery day and they said my liver was fatty too when they got in there. They said since I've lost 80 pounds in the past 12 months that should help the situation. Welcome and if I can help you in anyway just let me know. Feel free to ask questions we're all in this together and help each other here and this is the best place in the world for support. Hugs,

Banded in Mexico?
Best decision of my life. Dr. Zapata/Dr. Sanchez, Monterrey Mexico. 8500.00 for everything. Hospital was wonderful, and I could never say enough good things about my surgeons, they were top notch and done over 7000. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

looking for a fill doctor in indiana
Wow, I would be upset too. Dr. Curry always asks me how much I want in and then he gives me his opinion and then we usually meet in the middle and he always pulls in what is in there to let me know exactly how much fill I have. To me it would be essential in keeping up with it. Just my opinion.

What about meds? How does that work?
I think all surgeons are different. Dr. Curry says nsaid's are fine. I would check with my surgeon if you haven't already. Good luck.

Question for those who are really restricted
Ohhhh, Sounds like your too tight. My fills do nothing but get tighter for the first month. I was too tight for 3 months and didn't loose an ounce because I could only do liquids. After a slight unfill I could eat again and the losing started back at 2 pounds per week.

Hello, I'm Craig from Mayberry!!...haha
Welcome, Congrats on your decisions to be banded. You will be so pleased with your band. I wouldn't take anything for mine. Thank God I didn't have to do any preop diet. Hugs, Sherri Jo

will the weight really drop off
I couldn't loose an ounce until I was banded. Been banded for 12 months and down 80 pounds and I wouldn't take anything for my band. It's a tool but OMG does it make dieting easy.

Im Looking for a Mexico Buddy

Hair Loss........omg!
Yep, It happens to all of us especially if you loose weight fast. I had to buy a cordless handvac and plugged it in the bathroom just to vacumn up my hair after I shower. I have long thick hair and it's everywhere.

What about meds? How does that work?
I take loritab 10's for ruptured discs and they are huge and I can take them with my other 2 meds at the same time with no problems. I can take my huge vitamins. If you do have trouble you can cut them or crush them, but I have no problems and have taken these since day 1. Good luck.

Where Did You Have Your Lap-band Done?
I did a poll on here a year ago with the same thing and more than half were banded in Mexico. I had Dr. Zapata/Sanchez and he is wonderful. I would do it over again in a heartbeat and the hosptial was much better than the 4 here in the states I'd had surgery in. Not a clinic a huge full trauma unit hospital, Santa Agracias. I'll try to find that thread for you.

Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Mexico
You can read all about him on his website and I know there are a bunch of us that used him. I could never say enough good about him. PM me if I can answer any questions for you.

totally freaking..... help me please!
I'm 12 months out and have lost about 80 pounds and have great restriction and can eat almost a cup with no problem, and that's all you want to tell you the truth. I eat usually twice a day and I can drink over a gallon of water and tea a day. I can gulp my drink as well as I could preop but immediately after surgery you do have to sip and not gulp. I have sent 8 people to Mexico that are friends and family and 6 are at goal and banded in the past year and I have 3 friends, close friends that have had the bypass, one has gained back all of her weight, one has been in and out of the hospital since day one and now is very close to dying, can't get enough nutrients so I would take the band anyday over the bypass, but just my opinion. Congrats on your decision and I promise you you will love your band.

Still trying to figure out my band.
It seems like it took me forever to get to my sweet spot but I can tell you with no exaggeration that I'm there now and I very seldom get hungry and I couldn't eat more than a cup if I had too. I went through too tight, getting stuck, vomiting, unfill, too loose and now it's perfect and when you get there it is wonderful. I don't know how long it will last but I pray it lasts for a long while. I loose about 1-2 pounds per week right now and I've been banded for 12 months. Good luck and I hope you get there soon.

43 and just enrolled in the R.N. Nursing prog.
Thanks everyone, I knew I would have support with my LBT friends. It did feel odd but was so exciting. I just hope I'm smart enough. Thanks for all of your positive thoughts and congrats on your upcoming graduation Kay and everyone else for going back to college. I'm like you it's now or never. Wow, if you can do it with 3 boys at home surely to God I can manage. I bet I've forgot how to study, lol. I will keep everyone updated. Hugs to all, Sherri Jo

Eating regular food 8 days after surgery?
I agree. I had to wait 4 weeks for regular foods but followed the doctor's orders to the T because I was self pay and didn't want any problems and so far so good one year later. I would really do what my surgeon said. If he said food was okay then I wouldn't worry.

Is this a diet to all of you?
Not at all, I eat anything I want as far as fattening or not but when you can only eat 1/2 cup to a cup you still loose weight. I guess to it's in the fill being perfect and some days I eat once because I just don't get hungry. I firmly believe it's all in effective fills because I went 3 months without losing a pound and now 1 to 2 pounds per week but the fills perfect and I just don't get hungry very much. Hope things are going good for you and you will loose. I thought I would be at goal in 9 months to a year and it's been 12 months and I've only lost 80 pounds and need to loose 30 more so it's going to take longer than I thought but the 3 month delay didn't help matters any so I say just go with it and give it time. It will happen. Hugs, Sherri Jo

looking for a fill doctor in indiana
I drive 5 hours each way to see Dr. Trace Curry. He's in Cincinatti Ohio, I don't know how far that is for you but he is fabulous. I was self pay too and there are fill doctors 30 min.s from me that will fill Mexican patients but I only trust Dr. Curry with my band. He's done thousands and very affordable and hits my port first time. He is really good. He answers the complications threads questions on here. You can search on here for Dr. Curry and read lots about him and here is his webpage: Trace W. Curry, M.D. Lap Band Surgeon :: Home Hugs,

Stress tightening my band?
OMG, Yes, it does. My husband of 25 years and I have been going through some really tough couple of weeks just arguing and he's going through a bad midlife crisis, and it's been so tight I can't hardly eat. My surgeon put me on a prescription for it and it has helped but it does get tighter and during TOM if does. Hope everything at work gets better. Sorry to hear you got some bad news. It will loosen back up to normal if you can get through all the stress. Hugs, Sherri Jo

I can't believe I'm asking this...
I have the lowprofile mini port because although I was 100 pounds overweight I wasn't that big in the stomach area and I have the small band. You have to really work and push in and have me put my hands above my head while lying down to try to feel mine. If you have a concern about it sticking out because I do have a friend that is banded and she is skinny minny now and you can see hers, have the lowprofile mini put in. Use Vitamin E oil, you can get it at Walmart for your scars. I had 3rd degree burns over 33 % of my body, from thighs down and you can't hardly tell I was burnt and my plastic surgeon had me to use this for over a year after the explosion. It really works. Good luck and you will love your band. I wouldn't take a farm out West for mine, lol.

43 and just enrolled in the R.N. Nursing prog.
Quit laughing first of all. I know I'm too old to be going back to college and wouldn't have done it a year ago and 80 pounds heavier so I guess it's kind of a NSV. I have always always always wanted to work in a hospital and I quit college after one year ago a few years back so I enrolled today and classes start 8/10/07 and I'm so excited. I pray I have the strength and energy to finish this time. Pray for me. Just thought I would share. My daugher in-law went with me and enrolled as well so we can go together and she not knowing it would hurt my feelings said on the way down there today, "I admire someone at YOUR age going back to college". I could have strangled her but I guess if you think about it she's right.

Help My husband is forcing me to eat.
Wasn't Dr. Sanchez just an angel. God, I sure did like that man and what a surgeon. He did wonders for me. I sure miss him. Hope things are going better for you. We were banded close to the same time and the same surgeon. He was the tops, that's for sure and so is Dr. Zapapta. I love him too.

how do they do this test??
Yep, just a little prick. No pain. Congrats of your upcoming surgery. You'll do great. It's a very simple and very painless surgery, or at least mine was. I will be thinking about you.
