  2. Congrats on your approval - I to have BCBS Fed as primary and I hve ChampVA as secondary.I read somewhere that some insurance company's do not cover the fills - do you know if BCBS Fed covers fills or do any of ya'll know something that it does NOT cover. I have 35 BMI w/High Blood Pressure and GERD w/aspiration causing bronchitis - I really need to get the surgery soon as aspirating in the night is not only scary and painful but dangerous. I was glad to hear that ya'll were not having to do the 6 month diet. Any additional infor ya'll can give is appreciated - Beth:confused::wink_smile:

  4. HI, Thanks for replying - it is a proceedure to "cure" hiatal hernia and 95% of the proceedures cure ruflux - I have had GERD sine I was 16 and I am 46 now. Mine has been getting worse now I am aspirating the acid into my lungs so something has to be done. I have been told by several surgeons that the lap band will do the same thing for me and it being adjustable may be easier than the nissen proceedure - where my stomach would be wrapped around my esophagus creating a tight band - but no fills - you just get the tightness and cannot burp or vomit again. I am now being schedule for a esophageal motility study - did you have to have that done before your surgery - the surgeon at Vanderbilt told me I have to have this done no matter which surgery I choose. Right now am definately leaning toward the band. Beth
  5. I found out today that I will be attending the seminar on Jan 13 - am very excited - Beth :frown:
  6. HI Everyone, I am from Huntsville but am considering having the lap band at Vanderbilt. this is my first post. I have had GERD for many years and at the end of November aspirated acid into my lungs - terrible pain - family doc thought i had pneumonia, just bronchitis but that was bad enough. :thumbdown:I have had an appt w/surgeon about the nissen fundoplication surgery for hiatal hernia - now, i am considering banding which should take care of my problem as well as help me lose weight. I am waiting to hear back from Vanderbilt about my seminar appointment. Anyone else had to have a hernia repair during the lap band surgery. I am very excited about getting the band :tongue_smilie:- I have BCBS Federal and CHAMPVA hopefully not too many problems getting approved. Well, i am going to read the other post now and wonder around the site - look forward to knowing ya'll better. - Beth
  7. Hi Everyone, very happy to have found this sight - I am in the process of getting the date for my seminar- I have actually already seen a surgeon because I have a hiatal hernia and have been aspirating stomach acid into my lungs - really hurts - got bronchitis almost pneumonia from it - so I was considering the nissen fundoplication proceedure, after talking with the surgeon he suggested I go to the seminar before I make my decision about the nissen or the lap band - i have struggled with my weight for about 15-20 years now, i am 46 - i hope to hear next week about the dat of the seminar - i am in alabama but am going to Vanderbilt - has anyone else been there? Am going to read the posts now - look forward to knowing ya'll better - Beth
