  1. I went to a seminar on Oct 11,2008 and I was banded on January 14, 2009. So it was only about 3 months, but I was self pay. I think it all depends on your insurance coverage and requirements.
  2. I have my first fill on 02/25. I'm so nervous but excited! So far I'm down 23 lbs, so I'm happy
  3. Surgery is always as risk, no matter whether it's outpatient or not. I did ALOT of research before I chose the band and I'm so happy I did. I'm not a doctor, but most of the research I found said that approximately 1 out of every 350 people who have Gastric Bypass die vs 1 out of every 5,000 people who have the Lap Band. But keep in mind EVERYONE has different medical histories and ailments. Just continue to communicate with your husband, and show him how the benefits of surgery outweigh the risks! I wish you much luck:) -Maggie
  4. I was also banded with the Realize Band on January 14th! I don't have my first fill until February 25th, but so far so good. I'm on soft foods for another week and a half. Then I can start 'normal' foods. Everyone's diet is different. All of our bodies are different. I'd listen to your doctor!
  5. Good luck tomorrow! Remember this surgery is about YOU getting healthy. To hell what your family thinks! Have they ever been obese? At first everyone was a little hesitant when I told them I was having surgery, but they've come around. I was banded a week ago TODAY and I couldn't be happier:tongue2: I wish you a healthy and smooth recovery!!
  6. Good luck to you! I was banded yesterday morning and I'm feeling pretty good. Please keep us posted  And from my experience, the pre op diet was the WORST part. Hehe
  7. WendyMary: I'm just 24 hours post op and I'm feeling great! My stomach just feels like I've done about 10,000 crunches though  I've only taken my prescribed pain medicine once, and I have liquid Tylenol if I need a little something. I don't want to take my pain medicine unless it's absolutely necessary. No gas pains so far, and I'm hoping it stays that way! I'm not sure how old you are, I'm 27, and my doctor said that may help my recovery go a little smoother. So far I have no complaints! I'd say if you're feeling as good as I do 24 hours after surgery, you'll be good to go 72 hours after. Given you take some pain medicine and do what the doctor says. Good luck to you! This is an amazing journey. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me  Sincerely, Maggie
  8. Hey everyone! I had my surgery this morning at 8am, and I was home by noon:rolleyes: I am so thrilled I did this, and I have NO regrets. Now I'm just looking forward to healing and then taking better care of myself once I can eat solid foods. I do have a quick question though. If you have shoulder and gas pain, would you wake up from it immediately post op? Or am I likely to have it tomorrow or something? I know you all aren't doctors, I'm just wanting to know other peoples experiences. Because if I feel as good as I do now, my recovery will be ALOT better than I was thinking!!!
  9. The quotes they've given you Policeman does seem REALLY high. My insurance doesn't cover my banding, and I'm a self pay. The total for me is only $13,500. I'd definitely look into financing and I'd sure as hell shop around for a different surgeon!
  10. I'm having my surgery tomorrow, and I can say my BIGGEST fear is that I'll fail, yet again. Hell, I've been dieting since I was 13 and now I'm doing this. I've gained and lost 75+lbs a few times, and how will I know this time it'll be different? It will be different for a multitude of reasons, but the biggest will be the fact that I can't 'gorge' like I used to:)
  11. Welcome!!! (from one Maggie to another) I have my surgery in 2 days, and I can't wait. I too have PCOD, but i'm quite a bit larger than you. I'm currently right at 300lbs. It's been a long 4 month journey for me, but it's so worth it. Best of luck!
  12. Congrats on the smooth recovery:thumbup: I am hopping on the bandwagon next week. Actually a week from today to be exact! I'm SO excited but this pre-op diet sucks. I'm currently on day 4 of my 10 days required. I will probably never want Jell-o again:) LOL Thanks for the update, I'm glad you're doing well!!
  13. That's so sweet of them! I hope my family and friends do something like that. I think it's good to consider it a 'rebirth'. You've lost 129 lbs? That's such an inspiration! I hope to lose that also, well ideally I'd like to lose 140lbs. Kudos to you!!!
  14. Congratulations on your upcoming 'bandiversary'. That's a wonderful accomplishment! I can't wait for the 12 days to pass:) I'm so excited for my 'rebirth'.
  15. Hi all, I get banded in 12 days. I can't wait! It's going to be such a worthwhile journey for me. On Sunday I start my liquid pre op diet. Not looking forward to it, but hell it's just 10 days out of my life:) I'll survive. Currently my BMI is 52. I'm hoping to get it to a 'normal range. Happy 2009 everyone!
  16. OH Juli, I love your attitude:) I don't think you offended anyone, we should be proud that we're all making a decision to get healthier. And currently, those of us that are pre op and just post op are still very overweight. So we do have 'giant' asses;) And anyone that is 100% supportive can KISS them. You are such an inspiration! Have a wonderful Holiday Season!!!
  17. My surgery is scheduled for January 14th. Only 22 days!! I can't wait! 2009 is going to be one hell of a year for me;)
  18. I'm glad there's a support group for strugglers on here. I haven't been banded yet, but my surgery is scheduled for January 14th. I am SO excited. Currently I'm 5'4 and 304 lbs. I can't wait to be a healthier weight. I'll be checking in here more often to help track my progress and give updates. We can do it! I know we all can:) -Maggie
  19. Hey all, I'm getting banded on January 14th. I can't wait, this has been a long journey for me. Overall I'd like to lose 130 lbs...right now I'm just a little over 300. Ideally I'd like to be at 170. My doctor wants me at 190 at least. Hell, I'll be happy just being under 200;) I have sleep apnea too, and I haven't heard anything about not being able to use my CPAP machine after the procedure...I hope I can b/c I use it every night! I'm a walking zombie without it. I'm excited to be one of the NEW YEARS HOTTIES! GO US!! 2009 is going to be an amazing year!!
  20. Carrie_C, yeah it wasn't my most 'mature' moment but damnit if she wanted something to stare at I was going to give her something:)
  21. I must say I'm glad I'm not alone in getting rude comments thrown my way:) I have two instances that really stick out in my mind. 1) About 2 years ago I was walking to my car after work, and I had two asshole guys yell out from there car, 'Hey you want a fish you penguin'? WTF?!?! I just ignored them but it still hurt. I obsessed about looking rotuned like a penguin for weeks. Hell, I know I'm fat. I'm 5'4 and 304 lbs. I'm not blind. Sheesh! 2) I was eating dinner out with some friends one night, and this lady just kept staring at me throughout the entire meal. I finally just started picking my nose and doing things to disgust her so she'd look away so I could freaking eat. AND I was even eating a salad with grilled chicken. HELLO! She had a huge chicken fried steak w/ mashed potatoes and she wasn't skinny either. Stupid woman. And I always hear the 'wow you have such a beautiful face...if only..' It really pisses me off. I don't think it helps that all of my life all my male friends and acquaintences have said how HOT my Mom and Sister are. Seriously I GET IT. They are skinny and HOT. SHUT UP!!! I just can't wait until I lose my weight and I can go see some of those guys and be like, wow dontcha wish you had been nicer?!?! Sayonara suckers;)
  22. I didn't have to jump through hoops b/c my damn insurance isn't paying for my surgery, but I think it will be better for me in the long run. Since I'll be paying out of pocket for it, I'll appreciate it more. At least that's what I keep telling myself:) My surgery is on January 14, 2009. I can't wait!!
