Day 6, after having pain with hiccups and coughs, i have repressing sneezes since surgery. I couldn't hold one back today. It wasn' too bad. Minimal pain.

Yes, definitely, swelling makes sense, that is why they don't start you out with some restriction. (my guess)

I 'm one day ahead of you and still feel that way, my band must be having some kind of restriction, I am only barely beginning to feel hunger and I'm filling up fast.

With great respect for your opinion, I don't care what people I will never see again think. (within reason) One of my favorite restaurants that is sort of a buffet style is called Mongolian BBQ. You can get some very healthy tasty choices, but its pricy. They also don't allow carry out, so I feel using the card here is a win/win for us and the restaurant.

You make a good point, we still go to restaurants that we did before, and are not bothered by asking for carry out containers. Congratulations on being so close to your goal. My wife is 2/3rds the way there and I've just started.

My wife was given her card at her 6 week follow up as her surgeon didn't want her at restaurants before that. So far most restaurants are very accepting about it. Places like McDonald's no longer stop adults from ordering kids meals and I think a lot of restaurants just followed suit. Its the buffet places that might object, and so far they have been pretty good. I can think of a couple of them that I will look forward to visting (responsibly) in the future and I will definitely not be able to eat like I did and having the option to still visit them and the pricing will encourage me to do so. I think most restaurants few it as a good thing. It hasn't been a problem anywhere yet.

No, but they did give me pepcid at the hospital. I think there are two kinds of pepcid, one is pepcide complete, I think the regular one is what they recommend.

I was banded the same day as you, I had my first today. Take a took softener so you don't have to strain.:tongue_smilie:

PS, I'm definitely feeling some restriction. My wife got me a small Wendy's chile and pureed it for me, I ate half of it and quit when I felt full. I absent mindly took a sip of Crystal light lemonade right after and boy did I feel full! IT was about a 7 on a 1-10 scale of fullness. LESSON LEARNED. My wife who had the rou-n-Y last May just passed the 100 pound mark and has been wonderful. If couples are planning the surgery, its great to have the partner, but spread your surgery out a month.

A lot of people talk about gaining weight the day of and days after surgery. I think I have figured out why I am losing so fast right away. In my regular high blood pressure medicine is a combination diuretic/something else pill that has really been great at controlling my BP. They told me not to take it the morning of the surgery, but started putting me back on it. I don't think they understood the drug my family doctor game me and they gave me two pills seperating out the Linsopril/hydrochlorothiazide and I think gave me double the water pill while running my IV's wide open. I couldn't stay in bed 10 minutes without having to urninate and boy did I wear my self out getting up. My BP since I've been home is great, I made my follow up with my regular doctor for 2 weeks from now, I will be down 30 pounds since my last visit. I look forward to getting on the scale.

I guess I'm on the lucky side, with some tribute to my surgeon Dr Mikami at OSU. I could have used the Gas-x strips last night, but it really wasn't too bad and its passed now. I managed to lose 5 pounds from the day before surgery to the day after. Today will be 48 hours and I am feeling a lot better.

I think that is where I am today.

I was asked about my pain in recovery and I said it was about a 5 on the 1-10 scale, so they gave me dillauded. 5 minutes later they asked how it was and I said 4, more dillauded. That helped until I got to my room. I'm not feeling too bad until tried to get up, which was often with all the fluids they were pumping in. I was given liquid percocet in my room and will probably stay on that today, and will see tomorrow. As many people said, I suspect it will get better each day. Oh, I just checked and I didn't gain any weight during surgery as some people do because of all the fluids. I was definitely peeing by the gallon. (sorry for the TMI) I think that is why I'm still sore, so many trips to get up and go.

I'm back from the Ohio State University Medical Center. Yesterday I got up at 4am and drove with my wife to the hospital, we had to be there at 5am for a 7am surgery. I was the first one taken into addmissions. I was quickly taken up to the Bariatric center, taken to pre-op where I surrendered my clothes. I was told one of my Surgeon's colleaques would be up to give me a physical because mine was outdated. I waited an hour here to have a guy come up take my BP and listen to my chest. I was taken down to the operating room floor at 7:30 where I talked to the anethesioligist and her team. Nice people. Her nurse did a great job with my IV. I was told something was going into my IV to relax me and to take a couple deep breaths. Lights out, I wake up in recovery and there is a dentist there, they chipped one of my teeth pulling out the breathing tube. Then they tell me that they are taking out my catheter. (never had one of those) that felt odd and the irriation made urinating slight difficult for the next few hours. (not normally a problem for me) Sorry if that is TMI, but some guys might be interested. I'm in recovery about an hour before my room is ready. Shortly after getting my semi-private room my wife shows up, its good to see her face. She is a great help for the next 36 hours and will be for some time to come. Oh, I was given ice chips in recovery. My throat is a little sore from the tube. I'm quickly given some jello and it tastes good. All during surgery I am given and the next 28 hours I'm given fluids wide open. I finally got them to turn it down so I wasn't having to go every 10 minutes once I proved that system was working. For the next 24 hours people kept asking my if I had passed gas. I never really did get as gassy as some people talk about and no shoulder pain. I'm still taking percocet for the moderate adominal pain that gets aggrivated when I get up or down. I was finally told to get out around 1pm the next day and here I am. My follow up is set for 2 weeks and my fill for 4 weeks after that.

I guess I'm not the first of the 12/17 group to post post surgery :w00t::cursing: I just got home, my surgery started 30 minutes late at 7:30am. I'm off to change my signature and post my message in the surgery day stories and then check in back here.

Thanks. Surgery is scheduled for 7am, up at 4, at the hospital at 5am. Its too cold for the doctor to be trying to make an afternoon tee-time. :thumbup:

THey didn't tell them not to use it, just that they didn't need it at the hospital. Some hospitals may not want to assume liability for someone else's machine. Most likely while at the hospital, they will be monitoring vitals and probably on oxygen.

Good post and advice, though they would probably want to do another sleep study, and I hate those as much as the CPAP machine. Though, this new sleep doctor I am seeing will let you wear an oxygen monitor on your finger overnight that records oxygen levels. I may ask for that again when I am down below about 225. My current machine I think is a BiPaP instead of a CPAP and I think it automatically adjusts its pressure.

I WOULD THINK (DISCLAIMER) there would be no problem that you didn't already have. I hate the @#$# machine, so that is one big reason I am having the surgery, so that I can get off the thing eventually. Contiuously Pi$$ed And Provoked. My wife says my snoring has already almost disappeared with the 20 pounds I've lost so far.

Only 90 minutes more of work! I've been reading about the shoulder pain some people have and I hurt my shoulder Sunday. Fortunately it healed quick and any shoulder pain I get will be from the surgery. Our doctor told us the steps they take to minimize that, so here is hoping I don't have it. I hope to be back online Thursday evening, watching my big screen and surfing the net on my laptop.

Hello fellow Mustang lover. I'll miss mine, not driving it for 2 weeks.

I'm being forced to wait 2 weeks :confused_smile: But otherwise, my doctor gave me the go ahead to anything else I want to do if it feels ok (My curling league comes to mind) My reason is they want to make sure my seizure meds are being absorbed ok, which I think is overkill since they are no shortening my intestins like they do in other surgeries. But oh, well.

1.5 more workdays to go :confused_smile: I'm not on a pre-surgery diet other than it was suggested to lose 10 pounds before surgery, which I did. It was also recommended to follow a low fat diet the day before, so tonight its off to get a full rack of baby back ribs. I hope after this I won't be able finish a whole rack any more. Actually I may not be able to tonight, but with my wife 7 months into her post Roo-n-y we have gotten use to carry out containers. As empty nesters we rarely cook big meals anymore unless we plan on making it stretch a few days. I have to think this process is easier with out worrying about little mouths that still need to be fed.
