    BELGIUM Dr Chris DE Bruyne

The Hotel has pretty much everything you need from what I remember. I didn't actually go out though. I travelled on my own and then spent one night in the Hotel after the OP. What you can expect: A lot of pain around the stomach area and a feeling bloated due to the gas that they pump in the give the surgeon space to move around. It can take days for the gas to be absorbed back into the body. I ended up laying flat on my stomach one day to shit it around a bit. I wouldn't advice it though as it bloody hurt. I did think it helped me though personally. I was eating Soup the day after the OP in very small spoonfuls but some people can only take Water. This is due to the swelling inside. I really lived on shakes like slimfast type and added Protein powder I got from a health shop. Sometimes I added yoghurt to it and blended it changes the taste. There is no quick and easy way to lose weight. You have to change how you are and take exercise, small amounts at first then build it up. You will find as you lose weight it becomes easier. I used swimming and the cross trainer once I got over the getting into the water part. I hated how I looked but to change it you have to just get on with it. I cannot explain just how important it is to exercise. I was losing 3 times as much after I started exercising. Lots of people say it doesn't work for them. That is because they either eat to much still or don't exercise. It's not a miracle cure but with a little work it definitely can be Over time you will have to keep getting your band adjusted until you can only eat a small amount. I can still now eat quite a bit but don't. It does allow me to eat a little more when I am out with friends. Rather than a starter and sit there all night. It is a personal thing and I told everyone. It stops the awkwardness of why I was not eating 10 times less than I had. I don't get on here as often as I did but if you need any advice or assistance I will try and help, good luck with the OP and your new life. Alfie

Runny nose and coughing all night

Thats weird, it doesn't sound something related to the band. It sounds more like a sinus problem. I suffer from sinusitis and had that before the band and still do. You may have become allergic to something in your home? changed detergent, something else. I am not doctor but it sounds more likely than the band. Sorry if this was no help

Banded on the 24th of May in Kent.

Congratulations on having the band!! It is definately a change in your life and the sooner you find the sweet spot with fills and learn to eat that amount the better. I found the only way I lose weight is to train at the gym. The first part was easy. The weight just fell off. then I was stuck at 4 stones for a long time. I started going to the gym more and I lost another stone in the last 8 weeks. I realised also that I was eating more than I needed to cause your brain sees food in a different way. Once your brain is trained that you only need a small amount its much easier.
  7. Amazing, well done your an inspiration. I'm over half way to my goal and stories like this keep me going :w00t:
  8. I live in UK and went to Belgium alone which is a short flight away. I had no issues at all being alone and sometimes I was happy that I was as I just laid in a hotel bed all the next day relaxing. If you have to go alone dont worry you can get through it and it will all be worth it in the end. Good luck

    Frustrated

Just hang in there once you find the sweet spot it will be worth it. I can eat more than I should but just remember at that point why you did it and try to be strong

    Nutrition drinks

Well I used tescos own version of slimfast drinks but added yogurt to them in the blender. You can also buy Protein powder and add a scoop aswell. So for instance strawberry flavour shake, a strawberry low fat yogurt and a scoop of Protein Powder. The more protein the longer you feel full. They also have vanilla and chocolate ones. You can also buy complan in most supermarkets which is basically a build up drink but can be used as a sole source diet. I added protein powder to it. The protein powder can be bought cheaply at holland and barret etc Hope this helps :sneaky:

    needed new knickers lol

I have same problem with my boxers lol, My waist has shrunk by 6 inches in jean size but it used to hang over so it probably more :tt2: Problem is i have to wear a suit once a week at least. When do I buy a new one as I am half way to goal. Now maybe and again at the end. I didnt envisage this extra expense but its all good I suppose
  15. I personally went to Belgium for mine. I had no pre medical and received lots of information. I arrived the day before surgery had test done in the hospital. Was operated on the next day, 1 day to recover then went home again. Total stay 3 days. Since then I have had fills done in the UK, they also do them in Ireland. I cannot speak highly enough for Dr Chris and would recommend him to anyone. The price including hotel, hospital and flights is 4000 Euros. His website is here: Welcome to Obesity Assists's site I went alone aswell

Just starting down the slippery slope...

Honestly I can pretty much eat any food like as long as i chew it well. Your diet changes, you can still make great food just smaller portions. There is nothing at all from my old ways I particularly miss. I have new favourites that are better for me and delicious :crying:

surgery date with dr de bruyne

Hey hun nice to know its all going well. I was lucky enough to have you and your mum there when I was in hospital otherwise I would have been alone too  I would do it again in an instant it is changing my life and every month I feel fitter and happier.:crying: I can only recommend not putting it off for any reason the sooner the journey starts the better. I waited 3 months on NHS then went it alone, was the best decision I ever made and I wish I had done it sooner.

    Port/Gym/Etc

I was in pain with my port area for about 6 weeks as i turned in bed i seemed to rip it, well thats what it felt like. Then one day it just went and I was able to do exercise pain free. Time is a great healer

Just starting down the slippery slope...

Hey its 100% the way to go I can telll you. I was in a similar situation as you. I have not lost as much weight as I would have liked but im not so strict. Once you have had the fills and get exercising it just falls off. I have lost 3 1/2 stone so far in the 7 months since I was banded. I didnt feel any real restriction till about 2 months ago and now Its easy to lose 2 lbs a week. I swim 1km a day 4-5 days a week. That was once i got over thinking people would stare at me
  21. Hey nice to meet you, I'm in Worthy Down as you could probably tell from my photo :)
