Poll: How many fills did it take you to find your "sweet" spot
4 it took 4 fills to get decent restrictions the first 2 I really didnt feel any restriction and thought oh no it is not going to work I waited 3 months between 2nd and 3rd (should have went back much sooner). my 3rd fill I had good restriction for about 3 days lol and did still feel some in the morning. 2 weeks later I went back (after gaining about a pound that was embarassing and I almost cancelled) and got the wonderful fill #4 now I stay full and think hey this might work. Newly banded please get enough fill for good restriction. It is so frustrating and I kept thinking it was just me I was just not going to loose Those 3 months I did loose 9 lbs but that was dieting and excercising and with about 100 more to go it was very hard to stay motivated

Have a surgery date
Hi I was banded in oct also was my first surgery the surgery itself you get to sleep through :cool2: Yeah I was scared but it is worth it If it helps you achieve the goal. I think the hard part comes after truelly learning how to eat better and make the band work for you. Good Luck

psych guy might delay my surgery!!!!
Probably not the answer you are looking for but 20% I do think is alot but 5% might be good. I was recently banded so I am no expert only about 4 weeks out. I zoomed throught the whole insurance process from initial call till band less than 30 days I think. BUTTTTT he is right on the eating habits. the band does not or at least for me has not helped me change my eating habbits I have changed because of no choice but I now am realizing I can never have soda maybe bread and rice I should be eating 3 msmall meals a day and all the other stuff. I did not have the time to realize how much work it is. I read it but still for some reason I still believed it would be easier after surgery so far its not. and just as much of a struggle and feels like a strict diet. If you start a diet now and loose that will be that much less after surgery to loose and possibly better prepare you for the long road. Now as far as loosing weight my surgeon recommends pre and post of Protein shakes only no small meal just shakes. you would likely need 5-6 a day or more if hungry but you would loose about 1-2 lbs a day. If sticking to it I lost 10 pounds in 7 days and had a lot less to loose. It sucked and I was not a good shake person but I refuse to gain that back and am continuing to loose slowly being very careful what I eat. so if it is holding you up I do think you can loose it pretty fast if it is all you want. In the process you will morn the food and the full feeling and the taste in your mouth but really you will have to change your way of thinking about food and if you do it preop you still have a choice to make sure it is really what you want

What do you wish you knew before?
Lulac btw you are my insperation. Also I do not think and did not think it was going to be quick I do think it is a long process and we have to remember that during the process like any commitment there are ups and downs along the way but the end results are what we are trying to keep our eye on.

What do you wish you knew before?
I am newly banded and did have most of the advice but I wish I would have known how much it feels like the diet from hell around 3 days post op you cant eat I hate shakes and felt like I was just starving. now about 3.5 weeks still feel the same and cant wait for a few fills. I wish I would have truely known I may not loose weight while on mushies did i mention diet from hell? I wish I would have truelly understood 1-2 pounds a week. i wish I would have known I would feel like I never get to eat real food again. and last I wish I could remember what I did know and not think my emotional thoughts are reality. I did know I would loose slow and I did know I would be limited on food to heal and I did know that my emotions maybe a little off. sometimes I just forget

OCT 29th anyone?
yes I am getting a fill soon I go the day after you so on tuesday. My weight loss pretty much is at a stand still I think I am about 9 pounds after surgery and 10 on the preop diet. so I agree I cant wait for it to start working. you will have to let me know how the fill goes after so I can be prepared

Slimfast Anyone???
I did not try slimfast but I overheard a conversation so thought I would weigh in. The nutritionist talking to the patient in the bed next to me told her (she had just had just been banded) that is you drink a meal replcement like slimfast you drink 3 a day if you are drinking something like Bariatric Advantage you should have 5-6 a day. again probably along with calorie count and such
