lap band surgery with hernia in abdomen
NormaJean, I hope you have solved the Hernia/LapBand surgery delema. I had mine done at the same time. So far, so good. Only problem I have is a colorful abdomen, which doesn't matter, I don't go around with that hanging out anyway. You should do fine. Slow healing, but good to have them both out of the way at the same time

please help
Hi NiceNurse... My cardiologist first suggested the gastric bypass for me, then changed his mind.. and recommended the Lap-band instead. His reason is that it is less invasive, and will do the trick just as well. Sometimes losing a little slower is better. You can always get a second opinion.. I'm sure glad I got my band.

lap band surgery with hernia in abdomen
NormaJean, I had my band Sept 17,, 4 weeks ago. I too had a hernia in the center, right under my breasts. My doc removed my hernia and did the lapband at the same time. He told me, up-front, that I would have more problems with the hernia repair than with the lapband, but recommended that they both be done at one time. I'm glad he did that. I am still a little sore, but at least I have both surgeries behind me, and am well on the road to recovery... Thank Heavens for new research. Pati :wink2:

Help me make the right decision
I would have to agree with Rodriquez... and others. I would do a lot more research. Although I have not regretted getting my band, it is a lot to deal with for only a few pounds. You seem to be doing fine without the pain and expense of the surgery. Good luck to you.

HI from Kansas City/Overland park area
Hi Hannah....Welcome to the group. I don't live in your area... I'm in California, but there are a lot of people in all areas that are here and willing to visit and answer questions. So don't give up on us. When did you, or when are you having your lap-band. I had mine done Sept 17, 4 weeks ago. So far so good. Good luck to you.. we are here and we are all buddies..

Common Problem Foods
I have a problem with not drinking with meals. I've always had that habit, and I'm finding it hard to break it. I try just a sip or two. Any suggestions?

Newbie to the 60+ group
Hi Travellady, I'm in Calif also, and just had my band 2 weeks ago. You will do fine. I'm also in my 60s and agree, we do have a few more challenges than the young ones. But we are resilient and will do great... and look good doing it. Nice meeting you... and good luck, it won't be long now.

Newbie to the 60+ group
That's great, just remember that there are hoops to jump thru before you can have the surgery... it might take til the first of the year to get that part over with too. At least that was the way it was for me. I think it's great that you are preparing yourself so well, it will be great to not have any surprises. Best of luck to you.. glad you are here.

need info on taking medications
Hi Norad,, I don't know if this will work for you, but I crush my meds (pills), I use a flat, smooth plier, and then mix the powder in my yogurt or Jello. As for my leg cramps, I go for some banana, or potato, that has potassium in it..I don't know if it is the same kind of leg cramps or not.. but this works for me. It's worth a try. Good luck to you, hope you can find some relief.
