Oh wow, Yes! It was terrible. I had to set a timer to use that spirometer every hour. I also leaned heavily on the breathing exercises on my fitbit and anxiety app. It was probably around 12-14 days before I really felt like I was breathing normally again.

Infection and anxiety can both cause over production of saliva. I know they can make it stop with Botox, but I can't imagine your body wants more poison in it right now. Many years ago when I worked with pregnant women, I heard this complaint a lot. Frequent teeth brushing may help, as will slowly sipping water throughout the day. Sucking on hard candy or sugar free gum was recommended, but we can't do that. Good luck and I hope it eases soon.

Thank you, that makes me feel a lot better. I will aim for 48 and double check with my dietitian tomorrow.

Surgery went well, and I am home today, sipping protein water and broth. My one night in the hospital I barely slept, I could not find a comfortable position to save my life. So I walked around a lot, sat on the edge of the bed, read my book. Had one terrible bout of naseau last night, the nurse said I was probably drinking too fast. The dry heaves hit this morning, but I was told that was nothing to worry about unless it persisted. So now I'm home and confused. I had a list of what to drink, but there is absolutely no way I will be getting 60 ounces of fluid into me. I assume it gets easier?

Me, too. See you on the other side! Start my two days of clear liquids tomorrow and my control freak side is really coming out. I hate not knowing what is going to happen, so I overthink and overplan. I tasted the Ensure Pre-surgery drink, and boy, is that not my favorite thing. Sooo sweet and fake strawberry-y. I am just planning to get it as cold as possible and chugging it.

Oh, that was the pre-op. The big day is the 7th. I'm feeling fine, but my support system (mom and husband) are freaking out a little.

Ok, it did not take 4 hours. The anesthesiologist said she likes bariatric patients because they make us jump through so many hoops, everything is done by the time we get to her. The 4 hours is for people who need bloodwork, ekg, pulmonary tests, etc. I had everything done and all my clearances in place, so I was in and out in less than an hour.

Does anyone know what is involved in the pre-op appointment? Mine is Monday (April 29), and they told me it would be about 4 hours long, but it didn't occur to me to ask what will happen. I mostly work from home, but had to dig out work clothes for a week in the office last week. Every evening I would come home and think "well, that's probably the last time I will ever wear that." I am having more clothes funerals than food funerals.

I have been told I don't need to do the LRD, but will probably start next week anyway. Finding liquid protein i can stand has been my biggest hurdle. I like the hot savory ones from unjury, so might stick with those.

I am scheduled for surgery on May 7th. I am nervous about my relationship to food afterwards. I am old, and was on fen-phen back in the mid-90s before we found out it would kill you. I loved that drug combo because for the first time in my life I didn't think about eating. My brain would literally skitter away from the thought of food, and my roommate would check in with me everyday to make sure I had eaten. I want that feeling again, and I know that's not how this works, but I get mixed responses about whether that constant gnawing sense of hunger will go away. I am packing lip balm and a book, and my old PSP in case I can't focus to read. I am mostly looking forward to ditching a bunch of medication, possibly buying a bike.
