Medical Breakthrough -- Obese from Secret Disease
This sounds just like me! I'm in the middle of having all of my hormones checked, but they only did blood cortisole, so I may have to try and find a different Endo. How do you go about finding one that specializes in Cushings? I've almost been through all of them around here to get my hypothyroid diagnosis. I think my next step will probably be Mayo Clinic. Thanks! Michele

possibly moving to Tennessee...?? re: fills
I am just trying to get all of my ducks in a row and of course this is an important one. We're looking at possibly moving to the mountainous area of Tennessee near Chattanooga/Cumberland Plateau. Does anyone live close to there and have a Doc do their fills if not banded here? I shouldn't need too much more as I am definitely at my sweet spot, but it's nice to be prepared.

Unbelievable!!!
I take a combo of Synthroid and Armour. I tried to get in sooner, but he is booked up completely. I had an appt. for October, but we are going on vacation so had to cancel that one. I was actually diagnosed with Hashimotos because of antibodies, so there is definitely a thyroid problem. I just think that there is something else going on also. My TSH has to be totally suppressed (under 1)to get my T3 and T4 where they need to be. Until my T3 is optimal I don't feel well. I've had them tell me PCOS (but have no cysts).........maybe pituitary problem....maybe hitting perimenopause at 36.......not really sure. I just know SOMETHING is wrong and it seems like it's going to take a miracle to find out what it is. I do drink Water.....I do exercise regularly...2 miles everyday with weights 2x a week.

Can't "stomach" protein drinks any longer
I have tried them all and in my opinion Unjury is the best. It is made for bariatric patients. The consisteny is much smoother and thinner than any of those you mentioned and Unjury doesn't smell or taste very bad. I am very, very picky and this is the only kind I can drink. It's so thin, I can drink in a hurry and not have that thick, yucky aftertaste.

Unbelievable!!!
I went to a new PCP (my old one quit) yesterday to have my hormones checked. I am just not really losing weight with this band, even being at great restriction. The first thing he tried to do was tell me I'm depressed. He kept asking me if I felt depressed and I kept telling him no. He said "you're not losing weight, doesn't that depress you?" Ok, well after I finally made it perfectly clear that I am not depressed, he finally decided to check my hormones......good thing because I was ready to walk out by this time. Then he asks if I would like some diet pills. I almost fell out my chair. My husband told the Doc I barely eat as it is, diet pills are not what I need. Needless to say, my experience with Doctors has not been good the last few years. I fired many Endos. before finally, finally being diagnosed with a thyroid problem. My Endo I have now is able to read between the lines and look at patterns instead of seeing normal test results and thinking everything is fine. Unfortunately I don't have an appt. with him until Jan. I'm going to make sure he gets a copy of all of these results so maybe he can help me find out what is wrong. My temp was 96.5 and I feel like crap, so I'm thinking maybe my thyroid is acting up again. I don't know, I just want to feel good and lose weight. I know in my heart something is wrong...somewhere.....just need confirmation and help to fix it so I can get this show on the road. I paid way too much money for this not to work.

Any other post-op's ever experience this?
That is awesome. That's how much I've lost in 5 months...LOL! Let me know how the Beano works. It would work better if I could remember to carry it with me everywhere.
-
Any other post-op's ever experience this?
The Beano works so much better for me than the gas pills and antacids. I hope it helps you feel better. I'm 5 months out and I now use it everytime I eat. If I forget to use it, I can tell almost immediately. Let us know how you're getting along. Michele
-
Any other post-op's ever experience this?
Let me tell you.....I always seem to get air trapped in there where I have problems burping and pressure also. I bought some Beano yesterday and so far it seems to help with this. I just put about 5 drops in or on what I'm eating. It also seemed to help with sliming. Give it a try...it can't hurt.

Throwing in the towel
Try taking a very small sip of something warm to help it go down. I know you're not supposed to drink, but in my opinion it's better than throwing it up.

Slender Lady, Liberty Fitness or Curves???
I would say if you don't work out then maybe Curves is a good start, but for me, it just wasn't a good work out. I can do better at home with some free weights and my elliptical (well worth the money).

Does Lap-Band help with emotional eating?
I will tell you that I went through a MAJOR mourning process because I lost my best friend....FOOD. After my last fill.....2.5cc in a 10cm/4cc band, I could barely eat what is necessary to survive and didn't really think I could go through with this. I wanted to have a complete unfill and call it a day. Not only that, but I'm a turtle loser too. Then I woke up one day and figured out this was exactly what I needed. It's almost like a big slap in the face telling you to STOP eating and that's what I needed. I swear to you I now eat to live not live to eat. It seems my every thought now is whether I'm getting in enough Protein, not what dessert I'm going to have after dinner. Works for me. Even with my extra slow weight loss due to hormone problems I'm sure.....I know this is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Colon Blow anyone?!?
Ok....I just looked at the website and.......well......I can't even imagine wearing a colon blow t-shirt...LMAO. Please let us know how this works and what you have to take. I can barely get my Protein shakes down so if it's gross....there's no way I can do it.

Best Protein Drink?
Well, I'm still an Unjury fan. I've tried probably hundreds of different protein drinks and though I don't really "like" any of them, this one I can deal with. It has everything in it a bariatric patient needs AND it's thinner than most protein drinks so it goes down easily.

Anyone really tight and not losing?
I usually do try to keep up with what I eat, but I've been slacking lately.....thinking that I wasn't eating enough to keep up with. Maybe I'm eating more calories than I think. I will start today. I also think I'm going to try the 2 mile walking thing and see if anything changes. I go more than that now, but maybe if I did less miles more times a week.......

Anyone want to talk about the Lap-Band?
I do not like the way my breasts turned out. I was happier with them before. Most people have great results...I just tend to scar up too bad. I'm not done yet though, so maybe I'll get them to what I want. My PS and I decided to wait until most of my weight is gone before doing anything else. Just make sure you do your homework AND if you think your scars from your band surgery look bad (keloid type scarring), maybe reconsider. I feel like one GIANT scar now. It's worth it on my tummy because it is so easy to cover it up, but the "girls"..........

Anyone really tight and not losing?
My main form of exercise is elliptical walking. I go 3-4 miles 5-6 days a week. I also do some weight training a couple of days a week, but honestly neither the weight nor inches are coming off. I think it's time to call up my Endo. I'm not scheduled to see him until January and that's just too far away. Thanks!
-
Anyone really tight and not losing?
I had my 4th fill last Thursday and am very tight. I know I'm eating less calories than I should, but the weight just isn't dropping off. I figured I would give it another couple of weeks then call my endocinologist. It takes a while for your body to go into "starvation mode", so this isn't the problem. I AM on thyroid supplements and have been diagnosed with PCOS or Syndrome-X.....still.....I should be losing. This has been a problem from the very beginning. In almost 5 months, I have lost very little. I chalked it up to not having very much restriction, but now I definitely have enough. I'm just running this by those of you who truly have problems losing.....any clues as to why?
-
Anyone want to talk about the Lap-Band?
Well, just to let you know......the pain you have from TT is SOOOOOOO worth it. I had mine almost a year ago along with breast lift and liposuction. I would not do the BL or Lipo again, but I don't regret one red cent I spent for my TT. I still weigh close to 200 lbs, but put on a size 12 jeans yesterday along with a junior size top (XL, but still Juniors). I have alot of numbness which bothers me worse than the pain, but it's worth it. The first 6 weeks or so when you have all of the swelling are bad and don't let anyone tell you different. But.........I swear to you....it's so worth it. For those of you whose insurance will pay after WLS......go for it. If you have to pay out of pocket, find a way....you won't regret it. I still run my hands across my stomach everyday and smile because it's so flat. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when I finish losing my weight. I get so excited thinking about it.

What's in your Ipod? MP3?
Oh tell me more......I went straight to Shareaza and started downloading. I miss this music sooooooo much. I actually went to an 80's band concert this past weekend at Downtown Disney and had a blast. Anyone ever heard of Queensryche?

Has Anyone Had Any Weird Cravings Since Being Banded????
No more hot stuff for me. Now that I have restriction it stays there way too long to be too hot. Sad because I love hot food.
-
I may finally have good restriction
Oh boy do I get angry also. I keep wondering how long it takes for it to become habit and not to get frustrated at not being able to eat very much. I was at Downtown Disney this past weekend for a concert and ate at Bongos Cuban rest. I was only able to eat a small cup of black bean soup. I love cuban sandwiches and was so angry when I could only take 1 bite of my husband's. UGH!!!
