I have always been on the larger side, especially after having 4 children. Now that my kids are all grown, I thought now would be a good time to work on myself. My highest weight I have ever gotten to was 236 lbs. I was on oxygen and cpap at night and I could hardly walk up my stairs without needing my inhaler. I finally decided to let my Dr. put a referral in for the bariatric department. I was accepted into the program and started my journey in December of last year. I chose to have the gastric bypass done and on May 17th 2023 I had my surgery. My weight on my surgery day was 207 lbs and it has been an interesting journey every since. Towards the end of June I noticed I couldn't eat very much and I was having horrible pain in my right side. After running some tests they found my gallbladder was inflamed and needed to be removed. They tried to wait as long as they could but I couldn't handle it any longer so they finally did the surgery. I was told it should be a simple procedure and each day I should feel better and back on my feet. I had the surgery on a Wednesday and I noticed each day was not getting better but was getting way worse. I couldn't get out of bed and all I did was sleep all day and all night until Saturday morning. My family took me to the hospital on Saturday and the Dr's said if I didn't come in when I did I most likely would have died in my bed. I had a bad infection and a leak from the gallbladder removal. I spent about 8 days in the hospital just trying to recover from that and pretty much losing hope. By the time I left I was feeling better and my weight had gone down quite a bit. My original goal weight was 140 lbs because honestly I have never been any lower than that. I thought 140 was a lot to get down to but from being sick it went down quick. I am now 6 months post op and my weight is now 118lbs. Now my Dr's are concerned that I have gone too low, since I lost 21lbs in 2 months. They put my goal weight at about 130-140lbs and I just can't seem to bring myself to gain weight. This has been a battle because when I do try to eat something outside of my bariatric food I start to feel very sick. Not to mention The entire reason I got to 236lbs was because I have no control and it got out of hand. Now I just go to the gym and I do a little less cardio but I added in more weight lifting. We will see what happens.
