I was hoping everybody was ok. Haven’t heard from anybody in awhile. I’m now eating salmon, grilled nuggets from Chick-fil-A and shaved turkey. I was kind of fatigued for a few days but I upped my liquid intake and really started taking those 4 vitamins and it’s made a difference. Hope everybody is still hanging in there. We got this y’all, we did this as I’m assuming last resort now let’s make sure we make it count. Keep it up everybody. I’m sure it will get easier and easier just hang in there.

Well, today is the day. SURGERY DAY. It's more complicated than when I had the gastric sleeve because not only are they doing a revision from sleeve to bypass, they are removing my entire lower and mid stomach (the part that is bypassed) because that's where all my polyps develop.
It's a 2 hour surgery, and I was told I'll be in recovery for about an hour after. It's like having 2 bariatric surgeries in 1, so the recovery/healing/down time will be worse than my original surgery.
I'll be in the hospital for 2 nights, so I'll be home sometime on Friday the 30th. That sucks, and is really annoying (I hate hospitals) but I know it's necessary and will be worth it.
I can't wait to get my life back. Working out, feeling good, no more in and out of the hospital, being ME again. This has been a looooong road, but I'm finally almost at the finish line. It's gonna be awesome when I hit my weight loss goal (I'm 70 pounds away and speaking it into existence now that THIS TIME NEXT YEAR I will be at my goal weight).
So wish me luck, and I'll see ya'll on the flip side

You know one day in the not to distant future you’ll look back & wish you still weren’t interested in eating & weren’t hungry. Because when your appetite & real hunger comes back is when the battle truely begins. This is only for a few weeks, not forever. And it is in place to protect your healing tummy (about 12inches of sutures & staples holding it together) & support your recovery. Yes it can be difficult to find things to eat that your tummy will tolerate or taste okay. It can be a lot of trial & error. I tossed a few meals out before I found foods I could eat & enjoy. And don’t avoid foods you are allowed to eat because you didn’t like them before. Often with the temporary change to our taste buds &/or smell, foods we never liked suddenly are super tasty & vice versa.
Wanting meat or any other specific foods, flavour or texture is head hunger not real hunger. It will be being driven by your emotions at the moment and you are craving certain foods etc. to comfort yourself. Look for other things to comfort or distract you. Go for a walk, ring a friend or family member, craft, watch your favourite movie or tv show or re read your favourite book, garden, have a warm/hot drink, cuddle with your loved one (children, partner or pet), etc.
    You’ll get through this.

    Hi everyone,
I have been dealing with severe constipation (third week since surgery). I did a bit of research and found something that is actually working for me, it is called Fiberex, it is basically concentrated prune juice with fiber. I tastes like concentrated sweet prune juice. I drink one little scoop (comes with it) in the evening and everything is fine the second day. I do not know if it will work for others but I thought I should let everyone know. Of course, before you start it, please consult your medical professional. I was just sick of taking other pharmaceutical products and tried to find something natural. Also, I put together a list of veggies, legumes that have high amount of protein and that might help you when you start incorporating them in your diet. Please see below. I hope this helps some of you.
Edamame 1 cup 18.46 grams protein
    Lentils 1cup 17.86 grams protein
Pinto beans 1 cup 15.41 grams protein
Garbanzo beans 1 cup 14.53 grams protein
Fava beans 1 cup 12.92 grams protein
Lima beans 1 cup 11.58 grams protein
Green peas 1 cup 8. 58 grams protein
    Quinoa 1cup 8.14 grams protein
Spinach 1 cup 5.3 grams protein
Collard greens 1 cup 5.1 grams protein
Artichokes 1 cup 4.8 grams protein
Avocado 1 cup 4.6 grams protein
Asparagus 1 cup 4.3 grams protein
Mushrooms 1 cup 4 grams protein

    Hello everyone !
Had my surgery yesterday. I am doing good. Except for gas pains. No other pain. So far so good. Gas is really bothersome though. I am doing a lot more walking today. It’s 4 am and I am up and walking. When will this gas pain be gone ?. I have been having only water since yesterday. Today I plan to try some clear protein . This was my first surgery. funny thing was I remember rolling into the operating room and then the next thing was in the recovery. I thought for a min the surgery was not done or something and I was reaching for my stomach to check ?. After a while I asked nurse if it was done. She said Ofcourse honey ?

Crackers with protein, dried chickpeas and beans, nuts, pumpkin or other seeds. Air fry thinly sliced veg like carrot, sweet potato, zuchinni, beets to make homemade healthy chips. I plan to do that at some stage and eat with dips like hummus, tzatziki and salsa. Cucumber if allowed?

It's always been interesting to me how different everyone's pre and post op diets are depending on where you go for surgery. I've even heard that many places are still going by guidelines written 20+ years ago.
I was allowed to eat during my 2 weeks up until day before surgery. 3 ounces of lean protein and 2 1/2 cups of non-starchy veggies = delicious stir fry. 2 protein drinks, and 1 serving of fruit daily. Felt no deprivation.
I was confused too when I was told to drink 20 ounces of full sugar Gatorade the night before surgery and another one 2 hours before arriving at the hospital day of. Reasons given?
You will be more comfortable before and after surgery. This will help you feel less thirsty, less hungry and less anxious.
Helps your body handle the stress of surgery.
Helps blood sugar control after surgery.
Your bowels will return to normal function more quickly after surgery.
May potentially lead to a shorter hospital stay by decreasing nausea and pain.
One bottle has 34g of sugar. Go figure. Must be some of the newer research. But follow your nutritionist guidelines. If allowed I say go for it. I didn't start eating the SF pops till post op but I still love them. Especially the tropical flavors.
    Good luck tomorrow!!!!

Early post-op SF popsicles were life savers to me. I had problems eating (puree) and drinking, but SF popsicles were flavorful and went down with no issue. Later, after things settled down, they were nice snacks.
    Good luck,
    Tek

we were allowed to have them on the pre-op diet (and by this I mean the two-week liquid diet my clinic required), and I don't think they made any changes to that except for the last 24 hours before surgery, when we had to clear out our system in preparation for surgery. Check with your clinic. Fifteen calories is nothing - but if they want zero calorie fluids to do the final prep for surgery, then yea - in that case I would probably avoid them.

These are instructions I was given:
2 days prior to surgery, start the following: LIQUIDS ONLY (Premier protein shakes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner). No solid food and no snacks during these 2 days. Your stomach needs to be emptied of food particles by the time of surgery. Make sure to drink plenty of water during these 2 days, so that you arrive on your surgery day well hydrated. NO SNACKING in between meals. However, you may have zero-calorie liquids in between meals such as water, Crystal Light, sugar-free Jello, sugar-free popsicles. DIABETIC PATIENTS may need to lower their medications during these 2 days to avoid hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). If you eat any solid food during the 2 days prior to surgery, you operation will be cancelled.

May be only 15 cals each but they are not zero calorie. The sugar alcohols can cause tummy upsets and may have a laxative effect if you have too much of them. If you are having surgery on Monday, you don't want to be having tummy upsets or worse which could cause dehydration. You don't want to be dehydrated before surgery.

My surgery was June 12th. I went to Beaumont Hospital in Riverview MI. Had a few complications and ended up staying there for 5 days. I'm home and feeling a little better. I just hope the negative issues resolve. My cousin suggested I think of it like childbirth. You have a baby and swear that you will never do that again. The following year you forget about the pain and do it all over again with another child. I'll wait 6 months before I decide if this was the right decision for me.

So here we are again lol My revision from sleeve to bypass is on the 28th, and my pre-op diet (all liquids) starts on the 22nd. The first 3 days are ALWAYS the worst. Day 4 isn't too bad, and days 5-7 aren't bad at all. Those are actually pretty easy. But getting through the first 3 days...omg. That's the really hard part lol Not excited in the least about that. BUT...I'm beyond excited to get the revision and get back to my life. I miss being pain free. I miss working out (weight training, cardio, strength/core training). I miss bike riding and taking long walks. I'm so ready to get my GERD, gastritis, and esophagitis under control (GONE!! ) so I can finally hit my goal weight and move on with my life. At least this time I know what I do and don't like and am stocked up on the drinks and shakes and broths that I enjoy. Trying to figure it out the first time around really sucked lol

Hello! I am new here, so I am still finding my way. I had weight gain his me over the past 10+ yrs. like it came on overnight. And I've tried and tried to diet but I always fall back-to-back habits. I had an eye-opening moment where I thought to myself, "You don't really see a lot of overweight elderly people" and that thought hit me hard. I am 40 and much too young to feel this old! My joints ache, my ankles swell, my back hurts, I have high blood pressure, sleep apnea, GERD and anxiety out the wazoo. I am nowhere near ready to die, and I sort of had a "come to Jesus" moment with myself and knew I had to get serious about my weight and health. I have so much to live for and I don't plan on going anywhere any time soon!! I am a mother to a wonderful adult son. I have an amazing boyfriend and a family whom I love dearly. I love my job and have so many blessings that I don't want to take for granted. I keep telling myself "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels", and I know that has to be true. I have one more appointment with my PCP before I can be submitted for insurance approval, and then hopefully a surgery date!
