Weight stall 7 days PO
Stay off the scale. I haven't weighed myself since coming home from the hospital. Why? Because I don't want the scale dictating my moods. I know there will be stalls and water retention and worries if I'm doing something wrong or if the surgery is working. I will start weighing myself after my 5 week appointment once a week. I start regular food phase then and won't go back to doctor till my 3 month mark. I'm hoping by then I will get to experience seeing some mind blowing weight drops. If not, that's OK. Patience is a virtue. ?

Burning/pulling/stinging pain
I'm almost 4 weeks out from having RNY and still have the stabbing right side pain during certain movements. It seemed to go away around 2 weeks and I remember thinking "thank God". But it returned recently on a day I had walked 30 minutes on my treadmill, did some laundry and cleaned up my kitchen. I probably did too much. So, I've been resting the last few days and wearing a binder. I thought by moving more I would recover quicker. Guess not... But like all of you was told this pain was normal.

Pre-Op Toxicology Screen
I was sent to my GP a week before my surgery to test for drugs, alcohol and nicotine, Took both blood and urine. I've read some doctors will cancel your surgery if you test positive. Not sure if that's the norm for everyone but my doctors knew I was a heavy vaper for 5 years previous.

I’m trying to plan for my down time and hospital stay
I wore the same clothes home from the hospital that I wore there. I took nothing except my purse and phone. Never even looked at my phone except on the ride home. Shocking huh? LOL I had fam members there who kept the rest of my family updated. At home, my laptop and tv remote kept me occupied between naps. Trying to read a book and remembering any of it that first week? IDK... seems a bit of a fog.

Average time I will need assistance??
I had gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair last month. I was in surgery 4 hours, kept overnight and released the next day. I was up walking off the gas which was minimal and going to the bathroom with assistance but most of that first day I slept and rested. I also read all the horror stories so was surprised how well it all went. First week there was some pain but nothing that I felt was severe. Mainly just from standing up, sitting, bending etc. I think 2 days of help at home from your husband should be sufficient unless you encounter more pain than what is considered normal. As for dehydration or standing... they won't release you from the hospital if you can't keep water down or stand up. As least mine wouldn't. Good luck on the 15th!!!

Best Post-Op gift ideas?
^^Having everything your man needs when he gets home and making him as comfortable as possible sounds like a winner to me. Future smaller sized clothes is a nice thought but was the last thing on my mind after arriving home from the hospital.

Hi! What’s the process?
Insurance usually dictates the length of time between initial visit to surgery date. What testing and counseling is required by them and how soon you can get it all done with medical clearance. I was told 3 months best case scenario with my bariatric team since my BCBS insurance had no time restraints. I was determined to meet that goal and did. I got a lot done in that short amount of time. (Pulmonary, stress test, heart EGD, catherization, psych eval, sleep study, 3 months with nutritionist, exercise coach) And lastly an endoscopy which showed a hiatal hernia. Surgeon scheduled me for surgery 2 weeks later. If you are required 6 nutrition consults, sounds like you are looking at 6 months minimum. I'm going to guess after completing all your appointments your next step will be an endoscopy. Good luck!!!

First time experiencing unusual weight gain since WLS
I'm nowhere near goal weight but as a professional yo yo dieter for many many years, it sounds to me like classic water weight retention. Swollen feet is a sure sign and the fact you have been eating increased amount of sodium. It's frustrating but temporary. ^^Good advice^^ and reduce your sodium intake. Good luck reaching your goal.

What Made You Smile Today?
- Increased Blood Pressure
My BP shot up right after surgery while still in the hospital. None of the nurses seemed as alarmed as I was. They said it was the bodies response to a major surgery and the inflammation happening. It stayed elevated for a week or so but as my body heals it's dropping to where the doctor told me to keep an eye on it from going too low. I'm hoping to eventually be off BP meds in the near future and hope the same for you.- Very uncomfortable post op - question
I was told to wait 2 weeks before starting vitamins because they can irritate the stomach lining. No damage done I'm sure. Just concentrate on getting your water and protein shakes in.- Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
I couldn't bring myself to even walk into a clothing store for years and still can't. Even more so during the covid outbreak. I shopped online trying to find something stylish in the largest sizes I could find. Most of the time the items I ordered didn't even fit. Upside.. I was told to keep the clothes during covid. No returns but was refunded. Free clothes that I kept and plan to wear as sizes go down. I'm looking forward to one day walking into a store without shame and buying off the rack. Congrats to those of you for reaching such a great and important victory!- So over protein shakes
I buy New World unflavored protein Powder on Walmart.com and mix up my shakes in a Vitamix. Alot of the premade drinks are just not palatable to me and expensive. This way I can use any flavors I want and can be added to food if you want to omit the shakes. My nutritionist approved and 26G protein per serving. I'm finding I can't stomach milk now so glad I bought the whey isolate version. I add water, ice cubes, frozen yogurt cup. frozen fruit and stevia or crystal lite type flavors. I made an orange creamsicle recently. Yummm and my fav is strawberry. If I add a lot of frozen it tastes like a milkshake. Sometimes I slice banana into it and eat with a spoon- What Made You Smile Today?
The newest craze are the Hz frequencies for whatever ails you. 295.8 seems to be the one for burning fat. If any of this stuff worked, I don't think any of us would be here on this forum. But what do I know. ?- Favorite Vitamins?
Good to know. I tend to value my surgeon's opinion more so than my nutritionist. If he says they are OK then so be it- Favorite Vitamins?
Looks totally do able. Here are mine along with my meds that I'm hoping to eventually be off of. Those big horse pills 4Xs a day cost 30 bucks a month but contain everything needed after bariatric. (Walgreens Optifast Post Bariatric) Is it cheaper to buy each vitamin individually? We got to take vitamins forever so I'm all about saving money as long as my bloodwork looks good- Favorite Vitamins?
Yes, my nutritionist wasn't big on the idea either. When I told her what the doc said about taking Flintstone vitamins she looked appalled since they are both on the same bariatric team. Heehee- Favorite Vitamins?
Agree.. I think I'll give the patches a go at some point too. Funny when I first started researching vitamins pre op, I ran across people saying they take Flintstone chewables. I thought wha....? Then when I asked my surgeon what was best he said, " I don't care if you take a Flintstone vitamin. Just take a vitamin." Kind of surprised me cause the Flintstones never came up in that conversation until he mentioned it. LOL- What Made You Smile Today?
- Favorite Vitamins?
I'm curious about the vitamin patches. I asked my nutritionist about them and was told they are known not to absorb as well as chewables etc. But they sound so convenient. I am taking Walgreen's Optifast Post Bariatric citrus chewables 4Xs a day without any problems. But time will tell if they keep me at proper levels.- Day 4 of conversion to bypass and MAJOR hernia repair
Did the doc send you home with any pain medication? I had RNY and a hernia repair like you. I was in surgery for 4 hours and my first week was rough too. I sipped water, Premiere Protein, tried to get up and walk every couple hours to prevent blood clots and rest. The Hydrocodone helped the first week but didn't need it after that. Hang in there. I'm on week 3 now and most all my pain is gone. The only way I will ever regret getting the surgery is if it doesn't work. But I highly doubt that. Most everyone says they would do it all over again in a heartbeat. It's just hard to think that way so early on in the process. {{hugs}}- Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
My mini Rat Terrier, Twiggy, likes to wedge herself between my back and the couch when I lie down for a nap. Today she fell through and had to crawl onto my shoulder blade and wrap her little head around my neck to sleep. Bye bye back fat. ?- Is this enough?
For me... I'm going to start the exercise more for endurance/strength than weight loss. But I'll take any extra weight loss above what the surgery provides. I'm tired of sitting on the sidelines. ATM I have no appetite so hoping adding the exercise doesn't change that. If so, I may need to rethink it. So do I. It's the "honeymoon phase" so want to do all I can to take advantage of this time before effects of surgery starts to wane. I don't want to reach that time and regret not doing more, reaching my goals etc. Because maintenance will probably be the toughest, I think concentrating on increasing muscle mass now will benefit more in the long run compared to hours of cardio. High intensity interval training for shorter periods of time yields better results when doing cardio and for me will be more sustainable over time. YMMV.. but kudos on being able to get all those miles in. I'll be happy when I can achieve walking without back pain or gasping for air. Baby steps... - Increased Blood Pressure
