Sean C got a reaction from Arabesque in 30 days ago todayI am at 30 days as of today and things have gone surprisingly well. I have only had pain once (pretty sure from eating too quickly) and other than issues moving my bowels things have gone swimmingly. I take a stool softener every other day and I’m going about once every 3 days. I have hit my first stall as I haven’t lost weight in about a week. Any suggestions there? Today is my first day where I can go to solid foods, any suggestions for my first dinner? How are the 1 month folks doing?

Sean C reacted to Old Salt in 30 days ago todayCongrads on your success so far. I think I was down only about 18 pounds on day 30. For some reason I have not had a stall yet (knock on wood). I am now coming up on my 11th week and my tastebuds are constantly changing. For example, when I first went on solid foods, I was loving my cheesy-scrambled eggs. Also some chicken in sauce, but now don't care for either.
To be honest, I am not a "kitchen guy", don't care to prep, cook, or cleanup. So for now, right or wrong, I sticking to yogurt, cottage cheese, protein drinks, ready made low cal soups, and microwavable low cal dinners from "Atkins" & "Realgood". Still can't eat any read meat but tolerate pork. Feels like more of a mental thing than an actual stomach issue.
Hopefully later in the year I will try different food plus looking at getting back on the grill this summer. Saltwater fishing is a hobby and I am not one of those "catch & release" anglers, more like "catch & grill". ?
But my first dinner on solid food also happen to be a birthday dinner for a relative at Outback restaurant where I ordered
Wood-fire grilled chicken breast topped with sautéed mushrooms, crisp bacon, melted Monterey Jack and Cheddar and honey mustard sauce.
I ate half and was very, very happy.

Sean C reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 in Is this normal?Yep, totally normal. I had the sleeve and it took me a week. And once I went, it was a whole production lol Took forever, painful, the whole thing. Constipation is a pretty normal thing with these surgeries, so you will have to make sure you get plenty of fluids, have enough fiber (I took a supplement and added soluble fiber to my protein shakes for the first 6-7 weeks, until I could be sure to get enough with my normal diet), and the first 4 weeks or so, I was taking Colace every 2-3 days as needed.

Sean C reacted to catwoman7 in Is this normal?yes -- that first one can take up to a week, and just a warning - it can sometimes be a doozy! You might want to take stool softeners just to prep for it.
and as Arabesque said, chronic constipation is a common problem with WLS patients. A lot of us take Miralax, stool softeners, or magnesium tablets every day to keep on top of it.

Sean C reacted to Arabesque in Is this normal?Constipation is a regular battle for most in the months after surgery & until your weight settles. You’re not eating much (like your only fluids now) & your body is using most of the nutrient rich foods you will eating. It becomes quite common & okay to only go rope Et two days.
Best advice is to keep on top of it because if it persists it gets harder to go, you need stronger medications to break it & it can be painful. Add some soluble fibre to your diet & get hold of a stool softener or other constipation treatment. Personally, if I went for a third day with out going I’d take something so I’d have movement on the fourth day. Some take something everyday. Just got to find what works best for you.
All the best.

Sean C reacted to liveaboard15 in Is this normal? Some people can take a week or so before they go number 2. I had sleeve but it took me 5 days before i went number 2 and it was painful lol. My doc prescribed medication to get me to poop.
