  1. You might want to check with the doctor's office to be sure that they have all of the paperwork back from all of the different places. They wait until they get it all back before they call you again, so, check and be sure that something didn't get misplaced ... j
  2. I live in NC and have BCBS Federal - Basic Option. I have had all of my tests completed and I am waiting for them to reach the surgeon. The insurance company requires 5 years of weight history. You must have a BMI of 40 (with no other comorbity) or a BMI of 35 (with comorbity) for 4 of the 5 years. I have two years that are 40, and two years that are between 35-40 and one year less than 35. BCBS will NOT preapprove my surgery because it is outpatient. If I was having gastric bypass, they would preapprove me. All I can do is have the surgery and then submit my paperwork and hope they cover it. I am taking that leap of faith and having the surgery. I think I can write a convincing letter about the two years that do not have a BMI of over 40. I'm expecting to have a surgery date of less than one month ... I can't wait. j
  3. Hello, My name is Jeri and I hope to be getting my Lap Band surgery soon. My Doctor is Dr. Enochs in Raleigh. I have already attended his informational seminar and I have a meeting this Tuesday [8/19] for an initial consultation. I am going to my GP tomorrow for an EKG and blood work. I also have an appointment with a nutritionist and a psychiatrist this week. The doctor submitted my paperwork to BCBS Federal and they let me know what my benefits are. I'm not sure that means that I have been preapproved or not. I was worried about having a piece of plastic in me for life, but I'm over that. I am a tiny bit worried about the risks, but not enough to stop me from having the surgery. I have heard lots of success stories and can't wait to have my own. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take to get my surgery based on what I have done so far? I also spend a lot of time in Wilmington too, so I'm interested in hearing from people who live there too.
