    September surgery buddies!!

That's fantastic! Way to go! Hang in there, the hair will grow back, that 60 lbs is a great trade-off for the temp hair loss, although while it's happening, it's hard to see the temporary part of it, right? That was what bummed me out, too. Hard to see the upside - except when we look further down in the mirror!
  2. My surgery date was 9/26 and my surgeon said not to take Vitamins until my post-op visit 3 weeks after surgery (this past Thursday). My surgeon recommended the fusion brand, but I am confused about the different types, some you have to take 4/day, others only once per day and then there are the calcium chews (two hours after iron). Is the Fusion 1x/day pill a complete Vitamin? I purchased the complete vitamin not realizing you need to take it 4x/day but would like to switch to the 1x/day version but just want to make sure it has the correct daily balance of vitamins, since 4x/day is just unreasonable and not workable into a work schedule and taking around Calcium pills which can't be taken within two hours of an Iron supplement and the gallstone pills (take 2x/day with food) and the reflux pills (take 1x/day before eating). I am wondering if the Fusion 1x/day vitamin is a complete vitamin and what other supplements does everyone take? In addition to the Fusion Multivitamin and 2x/day calcium citrate that we all take, I've been told (by friends) to take: B12 sublingual (when does one take this?) Fusion hair, Nails & Skin Vitamin D (50,000U/wk with vitamin K3) for skin Krill Oil collagen powder, Water soluble ADEK Vitamin (but the friend who told me this had a DS, which I did not have so I don't think I need this.) Does anyone take any of these supplements and what kind of daily multi-vitamins have worked best for you? Thanks!

    September surgery buddies!!

I thought we were supposed to stay away from foods with strings (celery, broccoli stalks) that might be hard to digest until 3 or 6 months? Not sure if clementines/ oranges fall into that category, but I have avoided them out of fear. Maybe that is one of the foods that are at the 6-month mark? What does your surgeon or nutritionist say? I would love to hear, as clementines are a favorite of mine, too! Good luck!

    September surgery buddies!!

Did OK! Took about 1.5 oz of each item (turkey, roast pork, mashed, sweet potato casserole, sausage stuffing) and was able to enjoy dinner without feeling deprived. I even took 1/5 teaspoon of chocolate silk pie for dessert. I measured everything and scanned the barcode for the pie and my calories came out to about 1000 for the day, I knew I would try to eat dinner, so ate a very light breakfast and had broth for lunch. I was suprised the sugar didn't bother me but it wasn't worth the anxiety of getting on the scale the next morning! I definitely won't be doing that again any tine soon. I've come too far to screw it up now! I am encouraged by this group, thank you to everyone and good luck going forward on your journey!

    Vitamins & Supplements?

Thank you for this comprehensive reply, very helpful! I agree - the chewable taste terrible, just so bad! I do use bone broth protein powder w/ collagen at least once a day, not sure if I will take additonal, but I am so worried about my hair falling out and am really nervous about my skin. I agree that checking in w/ medical team is probably best on this one! Thanks!

    Food log?

Thanks for that helpful info! I haven't started w/ fitness yet on Baritastic since I am not cleared for exercise (other than walking, stationary bike, etc) until six weeks post-op, but it is great to know those features are helpful. An upgraded scale is next on my list; can you share what smart scale you use?

    Vitamins & Supplements?

Thanks, that is helpful! When you were taking the 4/chewables/day, did it make you nauseous?

    Food log?

I use Baritastic and agree with another poster that since it is designed for toward bariatric patients it works very well for my needs, tracking important markers like protein, calcium, water, carbs, fat. It is very easy to scan the barcodes of different foods like protein shakes, applesauce, tomato soup, yogurt, etc. and keeps track of your weight lost before and since surgery, as well as inches lost. There's a section for daily notes, reminders, a timer for eating (20 minutes to chew, chew, chew!), drinking (there are two warnings for drinking: don't eat yet! and don't drink yet!). So, the way it is tailored for bariatric patients is what makes this app so great. Good luck with whatever you choose to use, I am sure they are all great!
