    August surgery buddies!

Hey!!! Mine was Aug 12. I'm down 121 pounds since my surgery, pounds are getting hard to lose this last few months, but I keep trying...I started again to track what I eat, the exercise is getting easier to do, but I'm still not confident enough to go to the gym by myself. But I am now not the same person as 1 year ago. This one is lighter, healthier, a little bit happier, and I even look younger (at least that's what ppl says). I can imagine all of you guys have similar feelings Sent from my SM-S908U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Congrats!!!!! We are 4 months away to our gastricversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do any one of you ever thought that we were going to be here, some years ago? Personally this surgery was just a dream that it was out of my reach for soo long, in my country any weight loss surgery is consider cosmetic, so is not covered by the insurance; you have to have money to be able to do it, and you have to paid in dollars. I was "lucky" that last year I was debt free and my company bonuses were destined for the surgery, my boss was so amazing about it that the company lend me the money before the bonuses were given; and my amazing surgeon told me that all the doctors fee were waived (one of the perks of being in the healthcare field), just had to pay for the hospital cost. I wish someday, my country´s healthcare system considers weight loss surgery a regular procedure that can help any patient get healthy, use less meds, hospital and resources that can be used for prevention programs, reserves, etc. And that any weight loss surgery be available for anyone, no matter their income.

Hey!! You got this! you´ve lost 80 lbs, that´s something big!!! You are doing great; remember we are here for the long run. The most important thing is that you are better than 1 year ago, and that 1 year from now, you´ll be even better. My surgeon told me yesterday in my follow up app that if I continue to be consistent and that I keep learning and "listening" to my tool (gastric sleeve) we are good. So, look on all the weight/inches off, the saggy clothes, all the NSV we´ve experience in only 5 months, YOU/WE are doing great!

Congrats Libby! Felicidades @karakent. Lost 61.2 pounds since my surgery, feel amazing, have drop two sizes of clothes (maybe more from a size 28-30 to 26-24 comfortably, 22 snuggly). The surgeon cleared me for exercise, but haven't started yet, for me that's the difficult part. Hospital where I work has a 50% discount for employees in a Wellness Center, I will contact human resources for them to do the enrollment thing, after that comes from my paycheck I´ll force myself to go and think in the other amenities they have, like the sauna. One of the things that hurts the most is losing hair, so I dye it and cut it, been drinking a lot of s... for hair loss and applying a lot of hair products, but I know it is part of the process and that hair grows back. I can´t believe those pictures are 4 months apart, my eyes have been always big, now they are like look like big big, my face is losing "the fat", I was afraid to look older, but I like what I see in the mirror.

    August surgery buddies!

Very good, Iast week was my bday had to celebrate it with coconut water while everybody was having mojitos, sangrias, beer, rum, etc. My friends, family and coworkers went out of the way to get me some kind of "cake" that I can eat (no flour, no sugar) they did a great job find it alternatives, even though i could only eat a little bit. A non scale victory: dropped 2 sizes of clothing, right now buying panties and bra online, cuz everything is to big. My doctor says everything is fine, have an appointment with him on November I´m expected to lose 12lbs by that time. Do any of you have a recommendation of a youtube channel/app for low impact home exercise, still don´t feel comfortable going to the gym, and I don´t have a buddy or family in the city where I work to go with.

Yes!!! It's soo frustrating!! I'm taking biotin, b12, using minoxidil and a lot of hair stuff for the loss, but its even staring to show. Recently dye it a different color, knowing that eventually I'll have to cut it. My hair length is past my back, it was one of the few things I used take pride for, so long, shiny and healthy. Soo sorry for your cramps, try a hod pad...for me a little bit of cramps, I´m on my fourth day, hopefully tomorrow is my last. Yesterday in the weight in at the doctors appt I gained three pounds 😭, thanks the heavens the surgeon is out of town, and I got his assistant. The first question she asked me was if I consumed any food with sugar or not authorized in the program (they are very strict with that), I told her no, then asked if I was on my period, when I answered yes, she explain that´s normal, don´t worry about it, and put a little note for the surgeon. I'm on phase 4: soft food, eggs, and plantain, cassava puree, mozzarella and meat (without been grounded). I got to eat chicken breast and avocado in a restaurant for lunch yesterday, it was heaven, even though 95% of the plate went to a doggie bag.

I'm 4 days late, and feel miserable!! Besides I'm bloated, my feet are swelling. I've been in the famous 3rd week stall, for 10 days. I decided not weight myself until monday, that is my follow up appointment with my surgeon...counting the days for soft food.

I ask the same question to my doctor today, he says as long as it doesn't progress and change the characteristic of the pain/discomfort is part of the healing process in you abdomen and abdominal wall. My discomfort started last week, I'm able to sleep on the side and in my belly since day 5. Last week I went back to my apartment and work and my activity have increased Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

I have 32 pounds less since my surgery on the 12th. My non scale victories: I have ankles again (still chubby) but I can see them and my feet are not swolen even today that I'm pre-menstrual. My skinny jeans that used to "choke" my belly bottom goes all the way up to just under my boobs, my towel is less than an inch to cover me. Still struggling with the stairs and is because I haven't been able to eat 5 times a day or drink or the protein they are telling me to drink (find all protein shakes discusting) and Dominican Republic don't have variety or food specifically for Bariatrics ( have to order stuff from amazon), so I cook everything. I dream about eating a 3/4 pounder Wendy's!!! And someone around my house was making a BBQ, the smell was killing me. Now I dream with the puree part, to have some hummus, beans, tuna and some meat. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    August surgery buddies!

So I was discharged less than 24 hours after the surgery (I'm in Dominican Republic), was walking and going to the bathroom by myself just after 2 hours (I think, is a little fuzzy) post op. The barium test was the worst (But my surgeon said my procedure was test book perfect!!!), I started vomiting right after the test and after that it was on and of on Saturday and Sunday, I think I was getting used to the smaller sips. Something that help was having little ice cubes filled with Gatorade (wich I hated before surgery now the mere sight of it makes me gag) and Electrolyte, those are life savers. The food for this stage are bahhh, the high of my week was today that I got to make my own vegetable and chicken consomme, have my 2.5 ounces really slowly, tasting the chicken. Sleeping has been tricky, but I must admit that last night I didn't need pain meds to sleep, I was restless, but it has to do with the fact that I'm not sleeping in my bed or in my apartment ( I moved during the pandemia to another city for work and now I don't recognize my old bed as my own anymore). My sister and my nephew are taking care of me, support that I don't have in the city I work. Tomorrow is my 5 days post-op follow up, gonna ask my surgeon if I can go home on Saturday, I just have to be mindful of the schedule for eating and drinking water (and not rely so much on my sister and nephew for that). My wounds are healing really good the one in the belly bottom fell by it self today and it doesn't hurt. The bigger insicion (where they took the stomach) and the fartest one on the left are the one with some discomfort today. Walking is a must, today I feel great compare with other days, because I've been really active, coming up and down the stairs of the house, cooking for my self and my nephew, playing lightly with the dog, doing some light house shore to help my sis a little bit. No being in bed the whole day ( like sunday and monday). Sorry if you see any grammar mistakes, english is not my first language and in Dominican Republic we don't have forums or social groups for Bariatrics patients. August surgery buddies!

So today is my surgery, in fact waiting to be call to go to the pre-op area. My siblings, aunt, coworkers and friends have texted/called to tell me not to be anxious, and sincerely right now I'm in a incredible state of mind. Dunno if the moment when I have to physically go to the pre-op and get my IV I'll get nervous. It brings me peace that my best friend is working today and has a surgery next to my OR and is gonna be there, and that another friend ( anesthesiologist) is going to be there too. The hospital, the surgeon and most of the staff around knows from the time I used to work there, so I trust blindy in them. Right now the only thing I'm thinking is in having the biggest, coldest glass of water you can imagine. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    One Week Until Surgery

Hey!! First time in here. Mine is on the 12th, if the endocrinologist give me the go. Even thought I'm a doctor (work in the administration part), I feel anxious and I'm having trouble sleeping. I'm transitioning to the liquid diet, and by friday should be all liquid. Sent from my SM-N975U using BariatricPal mobile app
