Tashrenee reacted to lizonaplane in Almost 6 weeks out questions!I have been hungry from day one. I try to eat things that are nutrient dense and filling, like deli meat and cheese (the fat in cheese keeps me full longer), fruit (fiber keeps me full), fish, etc. I find that if I eat crackers/cookies/chips, these just disintegrate into nothing and don't fill me up at all, so I'd try something besides triscuits. I find that I have to be more full than I want in order to not be hungry in 30 minutes.
I did talk to my surgery center and they put me on medication because I was so hungry. It happens to some people. But coffee and tea with milk help me too.

Tashrenee reacted to GreenTealael in Almost 6 weeks out questions!Hi
Don’t worry, It’s common early on to feel like you’re constantly eating and drinking to reach your daily goals or satisfy hunger. Sometimes soft foods and liquids just go right through us.
Also because they move through the stomach easier you may never feel restriction or satisfied. Foods that go down easy and leave you hungry are “sliders”.
Solids are different. The firmer proteins feel heavier in your stomach and may even prompt from your restriction/fullness quicker. Remember try to go slow when introducing new foods and pay attention to what you can and can’t tolerate.
Congratulations so far ❤️

Tashrenee got a reaction from GreenTealael in Almost 6 weeks out questions!Hi all! Hope you are all doing well! I will start my week 6 tomorrow. Where I can have a lot more of a variety of foods. I’m nervous, but excited. I do have some questions though. I’m meeting my protein goal of 60g minimum, and most of the time, my water goals as well. But, I’m hungry a lot. Surgery was 4/28 and I loved for the first week and for the first time in my life, I wasn’t hungry. It was so nice to not think about food…lol. But, it didn’t last long. I’m following my doctors program to the tee as much as I am physically able to! I don’t know if I’m not eating enough or what. I am worried about eating too much in a sitting, and I’m wanting to develop good habits, so I set a timer for my meals, chew 25 times, and wait 1 min between bites after I’m finished chewing. I don’t eat and drink at the same time either. But I’m hungry!!!! I focus on protein first as well. But it feels like I’m just hungry all the time. Eating every 2-3 hours.
So for example, I get up around 8am and drink a cup of decaf coffee, and then try to sip on water or Gatorade Zero until I’ve finished 16oz. Then, I make sure I’ve not drank for 30 minutes and start on breakfast. I usually have been having a Ratio yogurt (the one that’s lower fat and 25g of protein) and add a Tbsp of fresh blueberries and a Tbsp of gluten free Bob’s Red Mill Muesli to it for some fiber. I feel full after that (most of the time I can eat it all, but not all the time) then I wait the 30 or longer to start drinking again. By 12:30, I’m starving again, so I’ll grab a Fairlife protein shake and sip on that until it’s gone. But I’m still hungry, so I’ll wait another 30 minutes or so and by then it’s almost 2-3pm and then I’ve been having about 1/4-1/2 cup of egg salad with one of those Sargento mini triscuits and cheese things. They’re pretty small, but feel like just enough. I feel full after that too, but feel like it never lasts long enough. And by 5pm, I’m starving again. So dinner since I have one more day of soft foods, is more egg salad and another Sargento cheese and mini triscuit thing, or soup. And then between liquids, or about 8pm, I’ll have another protein yogurt. Am I doing something wrong? Is it because I’m not quite on solid foods? I am trying so hard to do this the right way. Any advice? Thank you so much for reading this far!!

Tashrenee reacted to Strivingfor5K in 4 Days Post-OpHi guys! I’m new here and I just had my surgery on 5/26/22. I’ve been overweight for the majority of my life, and I’ve been eager to start this journey by getting to know others who have done the same. My dad got gastric bypass and was able to keep the weight off, but he got it done a long time ago. So his advice is a little outdated.
One thing I’ve noticed is that people keep emphasizing how good I’ll look once I lose weight. And it kinda sucks bc I didn’t do this for that. Sure, it helps. But I did it because I want to be healthier.
Rambling aside, the only issues I have right now are maintaining my fluids and protein. And the gas. How was everyone else’s first couple of days? Any advice for a newbie?

Tashrenee reacted to ShoppGirl in Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for waterYou should be able to drink a little more at a time as time goes by. Not EVERYONE can but most people eventually get back to a normal pace from what I have heard on here. I drink the same as I did pre op now. I can’t guzzle but I can drink my whole protein shake within a pretty short time in the morning.

Tashrenee reacted to ShoppGirl in Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for water64 ounces is a half gallon so you can also fill up a juice or milk container each day and just pour your water from that all day. I drank bottled water and I knew exactly how many bottles I should have before lunch and after lunch which made it seem less daunting but it’s really whatever works for you. Tracking it on a little notepad on fridge or one of the apps on your phone seems like it would work too. Soon you will be finishing whole bottles within a more normal time so it gets easier to track.

Tashrenee reacted to FutureSylph in Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for waterWhat worked for me was experimenting with various temperatures of water/clear liquids. Usually I found cold-but-not-icy water suited me best, and when my pouch grew tired of that, I concentrated more on warm herbal tea. Good luck finding your new normals!

Tashrenee reacted to Tony B - NJ in Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for waterUse an app like My Fitness Pal to track all your water and food intake. I find it a little easier to get water down when you do not think about it like "I need to get 64 ounces of water down". Think if on a micro level. You are up for approximately 16 hours per day. If you avoid liquid for a half hour before and after meals, that leaves 13 hours to get down 64 ouces. that is about 5 ounces of water in a one hour period. That is less than 1 ounce every 10 minutes. You will be able to do this easily and after a while you will be able to drink 8 ounces in a very short amount of time.

Tashrenee reacted to Sleeve_Me_Alone in Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for waterFirst of all, everything you are feeling is completely normal. Those first couple of weeks when you are trying to figure out liquid intake and how to get in protein, its all a little overwhelming. And the weird, water logged, sloshy feeling is also normal. I don't think I really felt "right" until I moved to thicker purees. Keep doing what you're doing and you will find that it gets easier over time.
That being said, I purchased a Hydrate Spark water bottle to log water intake. Its definitely a pricey investment, but it has been extremely helpful. It sends me notifications to remind me to drink, it logs all of my water, etc. I also use Just Better Fiber daily to help manage some of the other "issues" and it has helped tremendously. I started with one tablespoon a day and worked up to 3-4. It has been a game changer!

Tashrenee reacted to liveaboard15 in Newly sleeved 4/28. Q’s for wateryou can get a water bottle at walmart or any store that has measurements on it. That is how i keep track or simply drink from the standard 16oz water bottles you buy at the store. Also it took me about 4-5 days to finally go number 2. I have seen some say it take a week. hopefully your doctor provided a script for stool softeners because the 1st one is a doozy. But i simply just take sips of water through out the day. I also bought on amazon like 100 of those little 1 ounce cups. and i drink my protein with that. Makes it easier. I poor 1 little cup at a time. and when i feel like taking another i pour another little cup.
