Coolsf reacted to SoCalEm in VSG and constipationHonestly the constipation was more painful for me than the surgery itself. I had to see a doctor because I thought I was dying (swear it) but since incorporating fruits with fiber (especially apples) and green veggies, it hasn't been as bad as before.
I've found it to be an issue again when I slack on veggies and water. My nurse recommended Smooth Move tea but I haven't tried it yet.
Hang in there!

Coolsf reacted to Crisscat in VSG and constipationI was/am taking Colace twice per day and a probiotic. I was having trouble at first getting all my fluids in each day (my surgery was May 3rd). By day 6 post op I was unable to drink the commercial protein shakes because they made me gag horribly and I still had not had a BM. I took matters into my own hands and I got some whey isolate zero sugar creamy vanilla protein powder and some unsweetened vanilla almond milk and I started making my own smoothies and adding the protein powder to them. I also started adding more fiber in the smoothies. I first used ground flaxseed, baby spinach and finally pitted prunes. I blended prunes for I think a day and a half worth of smoothies. I finally had a BM by the 2nd day after incorporating the prunes in the smoothie and even tho I was and still am taking a stool softener I didnt see that it was much help as the BM was horrible to pass for me. I did tell my Dr about not being able to have a BM and she suggested Miralax but I had already incorporated pitted prunes. The prunes is what did it for me nothing else seemed to work.

Coolsf reacted to ShoppGirl in Advice Needed! How tall are you? If you are close to a normal BMI the weight loss does slow down considerably and it eventually stops. I am 5’8” Mine stopped at 169 and after staying there for several months I gained 10 back over the next few. I have been at 179 ever since. I wanted to get much lower but had to accept that my body is happy here. I could probably lose a bit if I incorporated more exercise Though. You may just need to be a bit more patient, but you also may need to add more movement to lose more.

Coolsf reacted to Betty1971 in Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go firstHere are just a couple of the silly things that have made me smile the last couple weeks:
1. I can buy cute underwear that are not made out of white flour sack material.
2. I can put on my socks in the morning with out making strange sounds and grunting.
3. When getting dressed to go somewhere the first thing out of my mouth is NOT "does this make me look fat!"

Coolsf reacted to lizonaplane in VSG and constipationThis is not a laxative. It's a pro-biotic. There's not a ton of evidence for their use in general, and I haven't seen any studies for their use after WLS. Also, I've read several times that if it's shelf stable, it's basically garbage - apparently "real" probiotics have to be kept refrigerated. But maybe it would work for you?
