Rebrph, how's your eating since you had the fill? Do you have any restriction? How long will it be before you have your 2nd fill? You gave me the info about the nurse in Tupelo. I plan to use her for my 2nd fill. I am going back to Mexico for my first fill on Dec. 15th. Denise

Christafell, how have you been doing since the lapband? Are you experiencing any of the gas pains? I am scheduled for surgery on Oct. 20th with Dr Ortiz. For the pre-op diet, I have to lose 10lbs within the 2wks. What happens if I lose less than the 10lbs? Do you think he will reschedule and until I lose the 10lbs? That is more added stress to try and lose 10lbs within 2wks. I better get started now. Denise

Does anyone know of doctors in the Memphis area or North MS area that will do fills for patients banded in Mexico? I am trying to find aftercare/fills closer to home before I schedule my lapband with Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. Denise

Rebrph, I sent this as a private message but not sure if I did it right. So I am posting it here. I live in the collierville area. I am going to be a self-pay for Lap Band because insurance wants to give hassle. I have considered Mexico, but I'm a little nervous. My fiance don't want me to go to Mexico. He's worried about the quality and safety. How was your experience? It has been a week now for you so how are you doing? How long did you have to stay in Mexico? Have you found anyone in this area to do your fills? That's my other concern will I be able to find someone to do my fills in Memphis or MS. Sorry for all the questions. I'm just glad I found someone who lives near my area that has been banded in Mexico.

Aetna's requirement is that you have a bmi of 40 for at least 2yrs. Does anyone know what Aetna consider 2yrs? Do they consider the current year as a part of the 2yrs? Or are they looking at the past 2yrs such as 2006 and 2007? I just want to know if I consider having the approval/surgery in 2009 are they going to look for my bmi requirement in the years 2008 and 2009 or 2007/2008.

slim-n-tn, where in TN are you being banded. I live in Memphis.

Had initial consult with nurse coordinator at surgeon's office. She stated she didn't think Aetna would approve me since bmi has only been 40 this yr and no serious comorbidities. Last couple yrs bmi has been between 38-39. My cholesterol is borderline high and I have knee tendonitis weight is a contributing factor. Nurse didn't want me to waste any out of pocket money in case Aetna disapproves. So should I not try getting lapband approval or ignore her advice

My PCP is referring me to Dr. Weaver located in Memphis. Does anyone know if she holds weight loss seminars? If so, I would like to attend. Aetna requires I do a 3 or 6 month physician supervised diet. Will Dr Weaver assist me with this or should I see my PCP? I have read on this forum she is a great surgeon.

DannyE, congratulations!!! Were you banded at St Francis in Memphis? If so, was it with Dr. Weaver?

Hi TMBOWE, I have Aetna insurance also. Did you PCP place on the 3 month diet or the surgeon? What type of diet was the 3 mo diet? Aetna has 2 criterion: 6 mo or 3 mo supervised diet. Who decides whether you will do the 6 month diet or 3 mo diet? I have initial appt with surgeon on next week. Wish me luck.:biggrin:

I have my initial appt with Dr Woodman on 8/6/08. Aetna insurance requires a 6 mo or 3mo supervised diet. Does anyone know if Dr. Woodman will place me on supervised diet? Or will I have to see my PCP for that? I already had my appts with the nutritionist and pysch eval on last week. My appt with my PCP is after 8/6/08.
