I’m 45 and healthy (just overweight - 40 BMI) until I had a stroke on 6/8 2 caused by tiny hole in my heart that never closed after birth. I’m doing well and expect to be cleared by by the neurologist and cardiologist in July. My surgeon understandably cancelled my 6/29 gastric bypass. However, he says I have to wait 6 months to reschedule due to safety concerns. With such, I’ll have to redo some of the process and may not get the surgery this year. I’ve already met my insurance deductible and out of pocket maximum - making surgery free if done by 12/31. Has anyone been in this or similar situation? Thanks!

Hey! Yes, finally got a call back. I have a new coordinator which is super nice. My last weigh in is in a few weeks then will be scheduled!!! So happy you’re on your way as well. Thanks.

Hi everyone. Hope you all are doing well! I complete my post op next month and hope to get insurance approval and survey date. There is a lot of turnover at Dr. Sanborn’s office so having difficulty getting responses and calls returned from my coordinator. Any suggestions? Oh - I decided to have a bypass as it will allow me to loose the most weight and I’ve been feeling some reflux. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing your experience! Glad you are on the mend. I will complete all of my pre op requirements at the end of the month so hope to get surgery in May. I will definitely be sure to be first. Still unsure about which type to get. I don’t have reflux and the sleeve is easier if I ever need a revision, but may loose more weight with bypass. Decisions…

I’m thinking about getting the sleeve as it’s more conducive in case I need a revision in the future. Hope your doing well!

Hey! Just seeing this - didn’t get notification. So happy for you! How are you doing with surgery next week? I got in with Dr. Sanborn who was also nice and said I’m a candidate for bypass or sleeve so I’ll need to decide??‍♀️. I’m 1/2 done with my pre op / insurance requirements. How long did it take to get you scheduled for the surgery?
