  1. It should help him a great deal! Good luck! OH of course say WHERE the pain is too! and if it happens after something that you can connect...like you drink water and within 10 minutes you have a pulling pain under your left breast...or whatever...that will help him narrow it all down! :tt2:
  2. Plain I am a rebel. It did occur that once I've lost weight I may need to change positions, but that is a political institution in our country...changing one's mind OVER AND OVER.
  3. You said "And Parrot" but maybe you meant me? Make an appt with the doc. Write down the times you have the symptoms, what you ate, how much they hurt (scale 1-10) and the "quality" (like...stabbing, pulling, sore, throbbing) and when you go see him, take that list. Maybe he'll see a pattern and can help you.
  4. Odds are if you aren't getting at least 64 oz of fluids in daily, you are getting dehydrated. Is your urine very concentrated? Does it have a strong odor? Are you urinating less frequently than normal? We dehydrate really fast (you can go WAY longer without nutrition than you can without water) That's why I say if you still can't get enough down, call your doc tomorrow. That beats a trip to the ER on a Fri or Sat night!
  5. Check with your doctors!!!! You are healing...but things can (and do) go wrong. If your doc says you're on track it may just be a matter of time. And em2 bless you, you should just go to another surgeon and get checked out. You have had a BUNCH of unexplained pains and aches. Seems a new one crops up each day. that's no way to live.
  6. It's just really personal....I LIKE only eating every 6 hours (and not being hungry all the time)...I have no problem getting enough protein in. That's what my doc wants me to do, though...the 3 meals/no snacks thing. It's wisest I think to start out following your doc's recommendations and then branching out from there.
  7. You may call me Restless (way better than "Couch-Potato Monkey, for example) or RM, OR the whole moniker, or as nanook did the other day (made me LOL) "Reckless Monkey"
  8. I'm almost 1 year post op. We don't eat out that often but I (this is the truth here) get whatever I want and eat about 1/3 to 1/2 of it. For example I get a lemon chicken bowl (which is about 1 cup rice and 1 cup lemon chicken, I've measured it) and I eat about 1 cup of the mixture. What I don't have room for any more is having this as a "meal" rather than a bowl...no egg rolls, no fried won tons, no fortune cookie(s). pizza...I have 1 slice, no crust. I know it isn't the healthiest choice, but this is life. I'm losing, my bloodwork steadily improving, and I'm living just fine. :tt2: I wouldn't do that weekly though. I would probably, say every other time the fam does junk supper, eat something healthier. That's because I'm in "loss mode" right now. I'd rather lose weight faster than eat more Pizza or chinese. Once you're healed and have been banded a while it's possible your old favorites will still be welcome, just in much smaller portions.
  9. Week 2 (which is where you are now) I was still on clear broths etc (no creamy soups etc) and was to add in protein shakes (mine are thin...like skimmed milk that is watered down) However if you are in pain call back tomorrow and Tell them you can't get the protein or water down The surgeon may have filled you during surgery and not told you, either way you need to be able to get 64 oz of water down each day.
  10. jerseygirl518 if you are one of the lucky ones to be doing well with your (to me quite large) first fill, then GREAT! as it gets closer, cancel that late Aug appt and book one for Sept (or whatever) and keep that up until/unless you need a fill. Don't get one if you are happy where you are.
  11. I just had some peanut butter and crackers with my dinner yesterday.
  12. Exactly as AlaskaGirl77 says. ASK your doc! I can eat anything ... ANY thing. My doc today even told me (at almost 1 year post op) that I could now have carbonation if it goes down ok! (It has been off-limits now since the surgery) Some people have problem foods, others don't. I don't. So wait and see what works for you!
  13. To anyone who's scared...remember many people post on sites like this with PROBLEMS! The percentage of people with bad fill experiences is probably pretty darned low...but many don't post "fill was great and easy" like the OP just did!
  14. Great post! All my fills (Had 8) and 1 slight unfill have been uneventful, not grueling, easy! Glad to read you are off and running!
  15. Back to the original post I think they should tax THIN people for not eating enough. Fat people create jobs and the concommitant tax payments (more people work and buy more stuff which makes more jobs). that's my 2 cents, and yes my tongue (unchewed) is in my cheek.
  16. Sorry I can't help you. I ate. That's probably why I didn't lose much weight until my 5/7 fill (48 pounds gone since then! YAY) but I was going to nursing school (senior year), working my chubby little fanny off, and just didn't honestly have the patience to handle being truly physiologically hungry. I followed the post op diet, and thanks to the band I did eat WAY less, but I didn't live on 1/2 cup of refried Beans (my preferred mushie) 3 times a day. You can tough it out...(hunger is a basic drive and it doesn't go away just because you don't eat for a few weeks) and many do, and get a jump start on their loss. Or you can call your doc and see what he says. OMG I need new glasses. Just saw you are 10 days post op. By all means, follow your doc's diet. I didn't overeat during the healing phase (but I could eat more than 1/2 cup...it was allowed) and you shouldn't. Don't eat "ahead"...but do call your doc and see if you can increase the mushie quantity a little. Good luck!
  17. I'm glad you called your doc; because if you hadn't done it I'd say ASK your doc. I know the medical community is divided on his issue but most feel the flora and fauna in our gut is there for a reason. Just like you become more susceptible to yeast infections after taking certain antibiotics (because they kill off your good germs that keeps the yeast from flourishing) in the same way many think colon cleanses do more harm than good. lots of that icky stuff you see coming out is our traumatized intestinal lining, not bad things you need to get rid of. Sorry didn't mean to soap box...but if you are feeling issues check with your surgeon or primary. Don't just get a cleanse from a health food store or drugstore and take it. I hope your doc calls you back soon and can give you a quick easy fix! Even with my soap box I'm really sorry it didn't work for you like you thought it would.
  18. My thoughts are of course see your doctor. If you are bloated, it's getting bigger, you're not losing....you need the doc. Please don't delay; many lap band problems just get harder to correct if we don't address them ASAP! Good luck!
  19. I've never heard that statistic. I've heard that 5 years out lapbanders have lost an average of 55% of their excess weight and variations thereof, but NEVER that it's only 33% successful. Does that mean only 1/3 of patients lose at all? Lose IT all? Do you know? Don't mean to hijack the thread, and I apologize to the OP...I'm just VERY curious! I was VERY obese and have lost almost 75 (49 since 5/7) and feel VERY successful. No reason to quit losing now. If my doc had pushed bypass on me I'd still weigh 405 OR MORE. (In other words I'd never have gotten bypass...big old chicken here)
  20. I can see how it would come out of left field and make you uneasy, but I think you're safe to move on...with it in the BACK of your mind.
  21. I'd call and tell the office I wanted the surgeon to do my fills...you can do it in a way where it won't cause a ruckus (unless you WANT to cause a ruckus) LOL I assume from your angel icon you don't. My surgeon does ALL my fills...because initially I just preferred him (he's a groovy guy and I like chatting with him) but now because my port is tilted and he's the "pro". The NP usually comes in to chat a bit, but the surgeon does my fills (see, no hard feelings with the NP) You are the "customer"....get the service you want.
  22. It's VERY normal. Many surgeons are pretty conservative in their fills and it can take 3-4 (or more) before you even feel it! If you can't stick to 1/2 cup of food (I sure couldn't) call your nutritionist and tell him/her! Until you get the band filled, it's like a belt sitting loosely around your stomach...it's THERE but it isn't doing much of anything.
  23. Ok...if you really want to KNOW...call your surgeon because what I'm going to post is just a guess... your diaphragm is irritated. Lots of us get hiccups when we eat too much (or drink too much) and its because our full stomachs crowd our diaphragm and trigger the hiccups. Since you are still healing healing healing (it takes a while) I think that's what's going on with you. I burped more in the 6 weeks post op than I did the entire rest of my life before that! (or it seemed like it)...you appear to hiccup. If it doesn't get better, call your surgeon. It's hard to function with the hiccups.
  24. So far... 3 For Tanita (I only counted me once! LOL) 1 for "scale at Kohl's" 1 for Health-o-Meter (also a good brand) (sorry I'm in science/bean couter mode today)
  25. Aggressive fills are a MAJOR cause of this (not the ONLY cause, but a MAJOR cause)... So if you have it and your doc is a "fast" filler, you might want to get a slight unfill and slow it down.
