  1. Hello, baripals! I'm a 56-year-old woman with a BMI of 50 & I'm having my RNY gastric bypass tomorrow. Eek! I am so, SO excited. I'm 5'4" & currently weigh 275.5lbs but my start weight before the pre-op liquid diet was 290lbs. While I have severe sleep apnea & a family history of ovarian cancer, I do not have high blood pressure nor diabetes. My only medication is for recurring major episodes of depression & dysthymia following a childhood & adolescence of psychological & sexual abuse. I have always used food to stuff down negative emotions & stresses & have been learning, through therapy, to find other means to express myself & vent my feelings. I'm really looking forward to changing my lifestyle & getting fit & healthy for myself & my family (hubby & two sons, 21 & 19, & future daughter-in-law, 21). If you'd like to connect with me (& I'd certainly like that), you can find all of my socials pinned in the banner of my YouTube channel & find my email on the channel's About page. I wish everyone success with their surgeries & new lives. Blessings to you all for great health & happiness!

That is absolutely fantastic!!! I am so, so happy for you. I had my bypass June 30th, 2021, & I'm hoping to resolve my severe sleep apnea & increase mobility again. May we both be blessed with many healthy successes in the years to come. 💪💖🤗

I'm four days out from the surgery & I have recurring, terrible pain in the upper left abdomen. I did some research & learned that it's at this incisional site that most of the physical manipulating of surgery is carried out & also where the largest stitching takes place to guard against a future hernia. The fascia in particular are bruised & injured in the process. Pain here is normal & can radiate to the shoulder &/or neck. Tylenol will help to a degree & the pain will resolve within a few weeks. It can be worse at night when we're sleeping because we're unconsciously moving & tossing our bodies as though everything's normal. I wish you a full & speedy recovery & really hope the pain diminishes soon. 💖 PS: I'm in Montreal, Quebec. Which province are you in, if I may ask?

I'm sorry to hear you're still struggling a little. I hope your recovery continues speedily & that you feel better shortly. I had my bypass 2 days ago & am feeling pretty good, just a little sore & very tired from not sleeping at the hospital. Please just keep taking good care of yourself & resting as much as possible. And keep hydrated above all. Let us know how you're doing when you're up to it. You're in my thoughts & prayers for full healing & a wonderful, healthy, transformative year.🤗

My bypass on June 30th went very well & I returned home a day later. I'm catching up on sleep & doing my homework: staying hydrated, walking, doing the breathing exercises & getting in some protein. The staff at the hospital were wonderful, very reassuring & caring, & now that my gas pain is dissipating, I only have a little soreness in the the upper abdomen which is easily kept at bay with Tylenol. If you have an upcoming surgery, please know that it's been much easier than I anticipated. Blessings to you for a wonderful weekend & journey.

    RNY Gastric Bypass June 30th

I'm home & doing really well, thank you! I'm so excited for your surgery in August. It'll be fine, I'm sure. Things went so much more smoothly than I could have imagined. If you have questions, I'm going to host a livestream on my YouTube channel this Sunday at 3pm EST or you can just send me messages. I'll be happy to reassure you. Here's my short update & link to my channel:

Thank you so, so much. I'm home & resting & it's wonderful!
  13. Returned home yesterday after one pretty sleepless night in the hospital (those beds, ugh!) & am doing really well. The bypass was a success & I still have my gallbladder. My blood work, blood pressure, urine output, oxygenation & blood glucose were all good so I'm home & catching up on sleep.

Between extended naps, I'm hydrating, walking, doing calf raises & my breathing exercises & getting in some protein.

The gas pain from the surgery is finally subsiding & I'll be starting my vitamins & meds tomorrow & start upping my protein, too.

Please know, they take great care of you after your surgery & the gas pain usually comes in short bursts & can be made better by walking & doing the breathing exercises. If you're having the surgery soon, please know you will be okay & will recover pretty quickly, too, if you don't have any complications, which are pretty rare.

    Wishing everyone a blessed weekend.

If you have any questions, please know I'll be hosting a livestream on my YouTube channel this Sunday, July 4th at 3pm EST if you want to come by to hear of the experience from pre-op testing to coming home. I'll be happy to answer any questions. Here's a link to my short update & channel:

Hi, Candace! I linked a very short update just so people could find my channel. I was hoping to do an informative livestream today with Q & A but I'm still so tired.

I will have a livestream next Sunday, July 11th at 3pm EST where I'll go over everything from pre-op appointments to the day of surgery & going home if you want to join me.

I'm sorry for the confusion but I will share all the info soon; I just need more sleep & rest than I realized. That said, all is going very well. Take good care, Candace!

Nice meeting you, Charlene! Once you're off the liquid & pureed diets, you'll be able to have something salty, won't you? I certainly understand the cravings, that's for sure. I'm missing salmon & salads right now but it's only temporary so we'll get there. Thanks so much for reaching out & welcoming me here. ☺️

Hi! And thanks for your good wishes! I hope you're recovering well & managing to stay cool during this heatwave. I am SO glad I felt air conditioning in the hospital when I went for pre-op testing last week. Please feel free to keep in touch; I'd love to know how you're doing. Blessings to you for health & success!
