HeatherZFeather reacted to DaisyAndSunshine in Artificial Sweeteners? So I was watching these videos by one of the WLS Surgeons and he isn't pro-sweeterners!
He thinks it can also spike Insulin by your body responding to the sweet taste in the mouth. And can also cause weight gain!
I do have medical knowledge and Insulin is only secreted in response to Glucose molecules attaching to the receptors in your Pancreas, so him extrapolating Insulin release to the taste itself kinda doesn't make sense to me!
May be Slpenda, aspartame etc may not be the best alternatives but natural sweeteners seem safe so far especially how Keto diet is revolves a lot around such natural sweeteners!
Thoughts? Are you a fan? Whether or not sweeteners are safe to be used in your weight loss journey esp cause many of us may not tolerate sugar well for life!

HeatherZFeather reacted to kristieshannon in Artificial Sweeteners?I’m 21 months post VSG. I’ve been having artificial sweeteners through my whole process. I’m down 139!lbs. My blood sugar and A1C levels are normal. -
HeatherZFeather reacted to catwoman7 in Artificial Sweeteners? Not sure how I'd do it without artificial sweeteners. I don't eat a ton of sweets, but at the same time, when I do, they usually have artificial sweeteners in them. I've lost over 200 lbs, so...

HeatherZFeather got a reaction from smilelaura in May Surgeries - check in!I had my gastric sleeve surgery 5 days ago on May 1st & I have to admit, it's been pretty challenging for me. I'm struggling with consuming just an ounce of liquid at a time because instinctively, I want to consume more but I can't without it hurting my stomach. Also, I'm feeling weak & can't exert much energy before I feel completely wiped out!
Look, I know I'm in a really weird transition phase right now; basically, I'm trying to learn how to consume liquid & food all over again, after 49 years of doing it a very different way and that causes me to feel overwhelmed (to say the least).
I'm sure most post op patients feel like this after having bariatric surgery... and that's why I'm writing this post.
I'm hoping, those of us here, can find ways to relate to one another and to encourage each other through all the new transitions we'll be faced with, along the way.
So here I am, a few days into my "new norm" and hoping I'll feel better & better, as each new day passes.

HeatherZFeather reacted to Jnfinney in Feeling discouraged!Updating your stats would help some of us. If you are taller and/or weren't extremely overweight to begin with, then you won't lose super quickly. People who lose a lot are close to the 500-600 lb range to begin with. I started around 235 and 2 lbs a week for me is really good. Don't be discouraged. I know there are some veterans on this forum who lost slow and steadily for a long time and met/exceeded their goals. You'll get there ?

HeatherZFeather reacted to APRILDEE1 in Nurses! pls respond!!!As a former nurse manager get a note from the doctor that you have to consume 4 ounces of water an hour. They will have to accommodate you. You will prob have to go through employee health but they have to...the only down side is then you have to make time to do that. I had my sleeve 4/8 and came back to work 2.5 weeks ago ( I am currently a NP in an Urgent Care who see covid and potential covid pts plus all the other urgent care issues) I use Baritastic app so I set alarms every 30 mins to remind me to drink water. I also hide my water in a drawer :). The hardest thing was the taking the mask on/off...so before I came back to work I tested how many oz at once I could comfortable drink. I got up to 2oz at a time so 2 water breaks an hour has worked well. I hope this helps

HeatherZFeather reacted to Arabesque in Start of Week 4I love my vegetables but I found I could only tolerate a tiny cauliflower floret, 2 green beans or a little shredded cabbage to begin. Everything was soft. I ate my protein first then tried the vegetables. Some days I could eat some, others I couldn’t.
I found I could eat a few more vegetables if I put them in mince dishes, casserole type dishes & soups - tomatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms, celery, etc. I wrapped smoked salmon & cream cheese around thin batons of cucumber for a little while too (until my tummy decided salmon was bad ?). Also added vegetables like spinach & mushrooms to cheese omelettes. You can always make steamed vegetables your snack too.
It does get easier & you’ll be able to eat more vegetables in time. Just take it slowly.

HeatherZFeather reacted to APRILDEE1 in Start of Week 4Long deep breath......... The last 3 weeks have been weeks of emotion. Week one discomfort wondering if its all worth it. Week 2 excitement because the pounds are coming off and the adding of full liquids. Week 3 excitement for purees and exercise, then moments of sadness and frustration when the scale didn't move wondering if I am doing something wrong. THANK GOD for this forum where just typing week 3 you she that the stalls are normal!! For those of you new to this take a few hours to just type in all your concerns questions or thoughts you will find something.
I got the go ahead to start eating "real food" and go back to the gym so super excited. I am down 17 pounds and 10 inches since day before surgery. The rate of weight loss was 12# week 1 , 4# week 2, 1# week 3....now you see the frustration LOL.
The surgery is definitely worth it! Tips that have helps with the mental aspect:
On a piece of paper write your why, then 5-6 NON weight goal i.e shopping off the rack, walking up a flight of stars post it on your mirror and check off each one as you meet them.
Remember the "old" you died on the surgery table. So what you did before is not going to be the same you are learning every day like an infant.
This is a journey not a race
Now I need help from the community:
I am supposed to add veggies to my meals but still reach my 65 gm of protein but only eat 3 times a day with one snack...how the heck do I do that? I can only tolerate about a 1/4-1/3 cup of food. I asked the dietitian but honestly her answer was...just add then and take the food away..What the heck! ANY advice hot tips are wanted and welcomed!
Thanks in advanced!

HeatherZFeather reacted to GreenTealael in Start of Week 4Very early on, extremely soft vegetables (almost mush) will go down easier.
Later on when you are able to eat more (volume) maybe able to pick and chose when you substitute vegetables for other things in your meals.
It takes some time but eventually you’ll get the swing of it all.
