Are you keeping your lap band a secret, or telling everybody?
Just a little advice. Tell them to "BITE ME". :smile2: Okay, don't be rude , but you are doing this for you. Other "fat" people just don't get it and they resent that you will be loosing. They ARE going to try to help you fail. Stick with those who support your decision. I told a work friend, who I thought would understand. She has Lupus, she should understand. WRONG I am so sorry. But 99% of those I have told show support, and it helps that I am doing so well on my pre op program. Even those who are thin at work have trouble maintaining it. So for me they were happy. The one large person in my office, I simply told her that this is the path I have choosen. She asked if our insurance paid, and I lied and told her I am covered my hubby. It is no one's business and if she wants this she needs to do the leg work herself. Anyway my point is, stick to those who support you. The others are very jelous and they will try to bring you down. And if you get one of those food police, you might want to consider telling them to back off, or BITE ME might work too  We are here to support you. And it doesn't matter if insurance paid or you are self pay, we all have tried and failed. Oh we know how to loose it, we have all lost hundreds of pounds and gained them back. We are choosing to utilize a tool to help us once and for all keep it off. Take care Debbie :sneaky:

Are you keeping your lap band a secret, or telling everybody?
Because of the rescheduling of my surgery, I ended up telling the people in my office. Because I am the Manager, I didn't want them to see this as a weakness. I am using my vacation because I wanted to keep this privite. I was going to tell after. Now, I just had to tell. The Dr rescheduled me on Payroll week, on our most hectic day, with two others out on Medical Leave and my receptionist having a vacation day. Bad timing all around. But everyone was supportative, they understood, and they have all offered to pitch in to make sure the office runs smoothly. And, I now have access to our computer system at home. I get to Telecommute!!! Put me at ease and my Boss. I have lost, I believe, close to 30 pounds, I need a scale. My pants are falling off, my Mom is taking them in this weekend. So everyone knew something was up. So I know I said I was keeping it a secret, but in the end, telling was best. Only one person was negative, all in all pretty good. Three more days, Tuesday, the start of my new life. Debbie

What is your surgery date? Let's keep a list.
Isn't it amazing, every Dr has different rules. I put myself on a part liquid diet, 2 Glucerna and a meal a month before my surgery. Then I met the nutritionist who hates Glucerna, too much sugar, not enough protien, and I was put on 2 protien drinks and a meal. Now with the change of my surgery, I have been on this for almost 2 months. My liver better be on the "petite" size by the time I have my surgery! Anyway, my Dr wants me to practice "sipping" and taking a long time 30 to 40 minutes to consume my drinks. Believe it or not I still have trouble with "sipping", but I have the time down. AND IT WORKS, I take the time to drink and then it seems my protien drinks last a good 3-4 hours. I am not starving, now in 4 hours, I am ready for more, but I am doing okay. Funny you mentioned your birthday. I picked my surgery before of my Birthday and now that I had to tell everyone in my office, because of the change, I am able to say, please no cake. I will still be on the full liquids. Funny, this will be the first Birthday in a long time that I should be under 250. I think that will be the best birthday present of all:wink_smile: Debbie

Why Don't We Give A Little Update Where We're At
I had to give up Diet Pepsi and it almost killed me. I have consumed diet cola since I was 16, way back when they first came out in the 70's. They are, I believe, the major cause of my cronic "accute gastritis". They are unbelieveably addictive. And when I went off for my band, I suffered horrific headaches. If you are a big caffine drinker and didn't wean yourself off, you might need a little coffee. I'm not saying to go off of your Dr orders, but maybe just realizing that it is caffine might help. Take care of yourself, Sept 24 will be here before you know it. I totally understand, but you have to think of your health. Get well, then you will be able to take on the Band! Huggs debbie

Thanks GG, I am makeing September by the thinnist of threads. But I guess this gives my LIVER more time to shrink. Today I worked my self up into a mess and got ill. I thought my tummy was never going to calm down. I know I have to relax, but it is hard. YOu know, you get psyched up for the big event and then the big let down. Thanks for being there. September 19th surgeries
Teri, thanks for changing my name from this list. I am still so pissed off  that they changed my date. If it was tomorrow, I would be almost done. Now I have 5 more days to go. Will it ever get here...........:smile2:

Frustrated
I think we would all do something in your instance. Have you tried Lactaid, they also have Lactaid Milk. I was also told to try Soy Milk or Rick Milk, but I am a big chicken. Boost Glucose Control is lactose free. Check around, the protien shakes are important Talk to your Dr or Nutritionist, they may have suggestions. Debbie

OMG!!! I am under 300lbs!!!!!!!!
Congradulations, that is a fantastic milestone. Personally I like the old scales. When you go down 50 pounds you get the big "clunk" sound. But the digital are the way of the future. Keep up the good work! You are doing fantastic! Debbie:thumbup:

worried
Try not to sweat it, at my Pre Op the EKG showed I had a Heart Attack. Turns out they put the leads on wrong. The second EKG still showed a Heart problem, but nothing the band won't help. I had a MAJOR anxiety attack for nothing. And I was told, this is what they need to know, and it doesn't necessarly exclude you from surgery. They just need to be more careful. Good Luck Debbie

Banded!!!!
Congradulations on doing so well. Remember, stay hydrated and walk. You are doing FANTASTIC Debbie

Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in
I was told not to compare "cuts". She told me at my Pre Op that they put in as many "cuts" as it takes to get the job done safely. I guess women were lifting their shirts and telling tales. Anyway, I will be a couple months before I have food, congrats on doing so great!

What is your surgery date? Let's keep a list.
THEY CHANGED MY SURGERY - AGAIN!!!!! :) So now I am September 23. They waited until TODAY at 3pm to call and tell me. I was very upset. I started to cry Now I should tell you that this Nurse has been extremely cold and almost rude to me, but when I told her that this is the SECOND time they have rescheduled me and all the problems this is going to cause, she actually had compassion. She forgot that I was originally scheduled for 9-17 and they changed it to the 19th. Since I was emotional, I also told her that I was taking vacation for this, it had been planned, cancelled and rescheduled and now they are making it so that I have to take 4 days off instead of 2 days. I was not a happy camper :cool2: but what was I going to do, they have a THREE month waiting list and they are graciously squeezing me in, and I get to be the first surgery. Goody :tt2: So for the first time I actually put myself before my company. Mind you I have a few people off on Medical, one habitually, and for the past 5 years I have cancelled and rescheduled so many vacation days that they pay me off at the end of the year for 4 to 6 days, I just run out of time to take the days. When we have been short I have worked 10, 11 even 12 hours a day. This time, this is important to me and I am sorry that this will make the Department short, but I have to do this, for me! I know that is not very Company Orientated, but this is important and I am going to have this done! I have always put work first, never miss a day being sick, I take vacation days around the flow of the office, cancel vacation days and cut my vacation short even changing our plans. But not this time! I have the Nurse's promise 99.9% that this is the last change. Sorry this is so long :w00t:, but I guess I had to write it because tomorrow I guess I am going to tell my Department that I am having surgery. And I was going to keep it a secret, yah right............ Sorry GG for making you change the list, again. Well at least I am still a SEPTEMBER SAMURAI

Sept. Samurai Surgery Check-in
So sorry you are having problems. I have an HMO so even though I don't pay, I get it in the end. Front Desk Nurses can be bitches :tt2: (oops I shouldn't use that word) at times, My Surgeon has a major one, come to find out I am not the only one she has bitten, yes I am missing a chunk from my tushie. Anyway just do the best you can do. Perhaps the Dr is not as "stupid" as his front desk. Now, regarding the weight, you do know that surgery can cause you to retain, you know, the tissues are pissed off that they have been assaulted. That is why you get a fill later, you tummy is pissed at have been smashed in a band. Give it time. I have read a lot of posts and some people do not loose quickly in the very begining. And yes Hunger can make our moods - alter. I am just on my pre op diet and today I just snapped, but I was starving. Anyway, just hang in there, drink your protien drinks. You have come so far and everything will work out for you, I promise. Take Care Huggs Debbie

Surgery on Sept. 24th
Thanks for the tip. That sounds much better. I am having a hard time with the pre-op, those shakes don't make it. I ate a sugar free pudding today, I have such crappy hours, I get up at 4 so I am ready for Breakfast early. Two shakes don't make it through the day. But I am determined. Drinking lots and lots of Crystal Lite lemonade

Surgeries September 15th
It is so weird to see all the names listed. We have been writing back and forth for so long, I can't believe the time is here. Do you remember when we first started posting for September? Seems like years ago Anyway, enough memory lane. Best of luck to everyone. My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of you! You are all going to do fantastic!!! Huggs Debbie

So sorry septemer 13, MY pc died
Hey Terri, you do a terrific Job and I know EVERYONE appreciates your help. Thank you from all of us Debbie

I feel like crap
You know, those Nurses should be ashamed of themselves. It's their job and if they don't like it perhaps they should change professions. They are supposed to follow the Doctor's instructions, period! This kind of thing really pisses me off. Anyway, so sorry that you do not feel well. Also, My Dr is very restrictive with his diet too. I think protien shakes are going to be my friend, along with Crystal light. Just hang in there, the gas pains can be horrific. If you are feeling better, walk. Don't do too much, but it helps to walk. I know a few have spoken about the Gas X strips. I don't know if they work, but they might be worth a try. Take care, walk, I hope you feel a little better. Huggs Debbie

Question for those that are banded
I will have my first fill in two weeks but no one told me if he will fill at the time of surgery. This is nerve wracking.

Surgery on Sept. 24th
I am doing two protien drinks made with 8 ounces of FAT FREE milk. Then I get a reasonable dinner. I am doing okay, mostly. I have 4 more days and I feel like throwing up so I am not having problems with the food. I am getting very nervous. Finding a protien powder that didn't suck was pure luck. I bought one from costco, and one from Trader Joe. The Trader Joe tasted like SAW DUST. I couldn't get it down. The Costco one tastes good. Is 27 grams of protien good, plus the milk of course. The Nutritionist told me to use Milk. Oh I did find something I liked, sugar free popsicles. But I tell you, I HATE broth. Can we live off of sugar free popsicles and juice???
