I'm so excited and just have to share the news that insurance has approved surgery! I have been going through all of the motions since January and am so excited!
A little about me: I'm 46, mother of two kids (10 & 7), and I teach 6th grade. I had medullary thryoid cancer and my thyroid was removed in 2008. Even though my thyroid hormone levels are within range, weight has been a problem ever since the removal of my thyroid.
Have I mentioned that I am SO EXCITED?!?

I am having Dr Thompson do my surgery! I have talked with him and he is a very nice guy. I also talked with Dr Bennett in Monday. Such a well Knowledged staff. Dr. Thompson was one of the doctors that helped with the designing of the new stapler that they’re going to use for gastric sleeve. It will be coming out this fall. He told me that I will be one of the first few patients to have it used on them. As my paper work was just Submitted yesterday. After talking with him I feel completely confident in UC health and their staff.

Here are just a couple of the silly things that have made me smile the last couple weeks:
    1. I can buy cute underwear that are not made out of white flour sack material.
    2. I can put on my socks in the morning with out making strange sounds and grunting.
    3. When getting dressed to go somewhere the first thing out of my mouth is NOT "does this make me look fat!"

101 to be exact. Just unbelievable that I've lost that much in less than six months. Went from 44 jeans to 34. BMI started at 44 and I'm down to 30. I'm so thankful that this was available to me.

To stay strong please find a psychologist to talk with. I am just starting and I have been working with a psychologist for a month now. YOU can do this ! Remember to focus one day at a time.
    Try post notes on mirrors
    “I am strong!”
    “My health is my reward”,
Make heart post with “I will love and take care of ME!”
anything that will give you hope.

Becky55 reacted to dms75 in How much weight did you lose the first 90 days ?
Lost 26 lbs in the pre-op liquid diet phase, then post-op: 26lbs in 30 days, 44 lbs in 60 days and 63 lbs in 90 days. It then slowed down from there.... I lose some 8-10 lbs per month now.

I had a nonfat latte with one shot in it three days post op. Once I was able to drink larger amounts of liquid I restarted my morning latte (two shots of espresso and steamed fairlife milk). A few days a week I have a cup of black coffee in the afternoon as well. I’m 2.5 months postop.

Never any issues, helps me get my protein in, and is my big “treat” per day. My MD never really had an issue with coffee one way or the other- or if he did I must have blocked that messaging out or something haha.

First get it all out of your house. If you don’t have any junk food in your cupboards, you can’t eat it. Secondly, don’t buy it or get anyone to buy it for you. Thirdly, find a good therapist to support you with your anxiety & food issues. And finally, if you want the surgery to help you, pick yourself up & start back on your program. It’s up to you to make this work but never be afraid to ask for help.
