Anyone tried Mio?
Mio is my new addiction!!!! I bought peach tea, sweet tea, mango peach and fruit punch....not a fan of the fruit punch but I love, love love all the others. They really help me get my water in since for some reason I just can't handle plain water after the surgery. I also like that you can control how much you use, unlike crystal light where I feel silly trying to use half a packet.

Food Allergy question, sorta?
Hey folks, This is kinda of a weird question. Last night I had a couple of teaspoons of shredded beets in balsamic vinegar. I'm not a fan of beets in the least, but these were very tasty. I haven't had them in over 20 years and then it was just a bite. Anyway, a few hours later I was itching like a manic! The roof of my mouth, my arms, my legs even my scalp. I took some allergy meds and I felt better. So, the question is: Since food allergies come on fairly quickly, could the surgery have caused a delayed reaction, or am I smoking crack and this is something else entirely?

So much for me being a consistent updater :)
Hello everybody!! I'm two weeks post-op today and for the most part things are going great. I've already noticed that I have more energy...not sure how much of that is just my mind, you know? But, my afternoon naps are gone. I'm sleeping better too. Exercise is also going well. I'm up to an hour on my treadmill doing variable speed and inclines. Foodwise things are interesting. Clears were ok, full liquids made me a bit crazy, most of the time they were fine, but sometimes I'd drink too much and fell like I'd eaten Thanksgiving dinner! Today was my first day of mushies. I ate a whole egg for breakfast and for lunch some fish mixed with hummus. I tried to eat some tuna salad for a snack and only managed two baby spoons before I was done. I'm starting to have some nauseousness, I'm guessing that's because of the new consistency of the food....nothing major just a wave or two of "ewww". I'm still not consistently drinking my water...I'm good for 50ish ounces most days. But not the 64, that's hard for me to adjust too, 'cause before the sleeve I could knock back a gallon a day. I guess that's it for now, thanks for reading, Tracy

Tomorrow is the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All in all my pre-op diet went well. I hope I did enough to get my liver to a manageable size. I keep thinking I should have done more exercise or something.....I'm just so paranoid that the doc will get the instruments in there and my liver is HUGE. Sleep is getting scarce as the day approaches. All my kids have colds and I'm trying like hell not to catch it. Another thing to worry about. My sister will be coming into town tonight to provide an extra layer of kid watching for tomorrow, so that will be fun. I really like when she's around. Really not much to say, I'm just biding time....wow, pretty boring post huh?

Pre-Op Diet Day Two...
I should have started this yesterday, but it was a bit crazy around here then. On Sunday, my niece (she's 36) called to let me know her father died. He'd been an alcoholic, from a family of alcoholics, as long as I've known him. My dear sister died in 2003 from complications of Redux(part of the phen-fen family of drugs). So I had little to no contact with him in the intervening years. My brother-in-law's family has been of no help with planning or even being supportive, while that should come as no surprise...but the sheer selfishness they've exhibited is amazing. Ugh, I could go on forever about that...... But, I won't bore anyone with my epic ranting about them. For my pre-op diet I'm supposed to drink three protein shakes totaling no more than 600 calories altogether. They have to have no more than 10 carbs and at least 15 grams of protein each. I also get a meal of no more than 400 calories a day. This is a standard low-cal but now too low carb meal, I'm allowed a serving of whole grain w/ the meal. My day should be 1000 calories and 100 grams of protein. I did pretty well yesterday, I got in 906 calories and 115 grams of protein. Although my niece would say that I was mad at the world and weirdly forgetful . Today is better, I'm not mad and I think I'm doing well memory-wise (although I can't be 100% sure).

pro's / con's to being honest about having surgery
I'm kind of caught in the middle of both worlds. I've told: 1 sister, 1 niece, and 5 friends (3 of which have had weight loss surgery ). I wouldn't mind telling more people as it comes up. But, my husband is a very private person and he thinks people will be judgmental so, he prefers we keep it quiet. If he'd had his way NOBODY would have known. I, on the other hand, like the idea of support...I mean people's negativity is their issue not mine. For me it's a fine line to walk and as my date draws closer, I'm trying to figure out ways to explain my absence from some of my regular activities and then the recuperation time before I can get back to some of them. Sometimes I think it would just be easier to tell everybody concerned from the beginning. Oh well.

Optifast pre-op diet
Several years back I did Optifast as a way to lose weight, the hunger went away after about the 5th day, if you can hang in there. I managed to keep it up for 4 months before cooking for the family got to me. I made my shakes with lots of ice and different flavored diet sodas and that seemed to help as well. Also, it probably wouldn't hurt to ask the doc's office if adding a salad or other veggies would be a deal breaker. Best of luck to you

Hairloss
A friend of mine that recently had RNY was told to try silica in addition to biotin. I've read some reviews....some are promising and some sound like snake oil. But, I may try it since I've got pretty thin hair to begin with......
