    PPI

Hi, I am 7 months post op and still taking nexium. I went from prescription 40mg, to over the counter 20mg. It works great, but my doctor wants me to get off them. As soon as I don’t take one, I get heartburn that night. I am going to start cutting the tablet in half so I am on 10mg, so I can keep taking them, but reduce how much. How long were you on PPI after surgery? does anyone take PPI long term? should I be worried that I need the PPI? thank you
  2. Hi! It sounds like you and I have a lot in common. I’m the same age, and I too have PCOS. The thought of not being able to have a baby, and not being able to give my husband a baby finally got to me, Which made me get the surgery. I had surgery on the 11th December! I am still on the Post op liquid diet (arghhh). I have struggled with people’s comments throughout my life too. I have learnt to not let them get to me, but I still remember the comments, times that stood out. “wow why are you so fat” - kid with no filter “here you can have all my big clothes now that I have lost weight” - friend after she got the gastric sleeve Being obviously ignored during conversations about and invitations to play sport. - work friends “you shouldn’t be eating that” and many more! Congratulations on your surgery, can I ask, have you told family and friends?
  3. Did anyone start the VLCD for pre op early? My doctor has asked me to do it for 3 weeks. But I have put on 4kg since I saw him. Now I am thinking maybe I should do it for 4 weeks.

    Start pre op early

Hahaha what is a food funeral? Is that like the last meal before pre op?
  5. I met with my Dietician today. She was unbelievably lovely. She walked me through the pre op diet, and it is so much better than I thought. She calculated that I was aloud to have a small amount of lean protein. When I was shocked at that, she said “not everyone is aloud to have that, but I have calculated that you can” That made me wonder why I was allowed it but others weren’t. Is it because I am heavier than others, was it my BMI or age or something? does anyone know? thanks

    Lean protein during pre op

Yeah. It’s interesting that every doctor is different. This was between patients at the same doctor. I’m aloud lean meat in pre op and others arn’t. Maybe because I am doing it for 3 weeks. It’s not important I guess. I am just happy I know more now and can prepare.

    Start pre op early

Thank you. My pre op, is three optifast products (shakes, bars, soups or desserts) a day and a minimum of two cups of vegetables. I have a dietitian appointment on Tuesday so she will let me know if I can have anything else. But I think my Surgeon follows Sally Johnston’s complete guide to nutrition for weight loss surgery. So I have read this book and It seams pretty strict for the pre op. I hope I loose the 4kgs and more. I will enjoy meat and solid meals while I can, but obviously not going crazy though as I do not want to put on more weight. the multiple Christmas parties I have coming up are going to be the biggest temptations ever! But I will stay strong! Or just no go haha.
